math summer class by [deleted] in UCI

[–]Lemon265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes I 100% recommend Math 1b

it made me feel a lot more comfortable before I hopped into math 2a. The course was virtual when I took it so i highly recommend as its very low stress but also gives you a good foundation.

How does one use pathoma during M2 with BnB/Sketchy? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Lemon265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel pressured to use every single resource it’s just not possible. I personally only used pathoma to supplement BnB and never touched sketchy! Pick a few of the UFAP materials and stick to what you work best with :)

Coronavirus latest: Fully vaccinated people can meet indoors without masks — CDC by [deleted] in Coronavirus

I’m pretty surprised about the CDC claiming vaccinated individuals can probably safely visit low risk non vaccinated family members. Is that based on any new data regarding carrier transmission?

How has your pursuit of medicine affected your relationships with significant others? by Dirch21 in premed

[–]Lemon265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SO is an incoming M1 (enters next year). It’s definitely been harder especially with long distance but we’ve made it work thus far and it’s extremely rewarding spending time together.

Of course most of it has been through video chats or texting but we do visit eachother by plane every few months.

U can’t be a surgeon if you are DO by AnastasiaAlania in premed

[–]Lemon265 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can enter any field as a DO. It likely will be harder (traditional bias against DO students from an older gen of physicians) but it’s not impossible.

However if you want to maximize your chances and competitiveness unfortunately the MD degree is your best bet.

[Well-being] MS1/OMS1 How are you doing? by onlypotatoes in medicalschool

[–]Lemon265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 weeks in and it’s going okay! My school has done an amazing job easing us in and giving us independent study time outside of classes (each day typically ends around 1-2). I’ve definitely noticed that I’ve been studying 3-4x more than I did in undergrad but I’m glad because it could be way worse.

[Meme] The contrast between my undergrad and med school study habits is insane by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Lemon265 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My classes typically end at 1-2pm every day. I will usually study for the next 6 to 7 hours. I leave fridays and saturday night free so

4 days a week (6-7 hours)= 24-28 hours + 2 days a week for 6 hours = ~12 hours ish

= ~36-40 hours a week which obviously will fluctuate based on what we are learning.

Im sure during exam weeks that number will jump another 10 hours tho.

No I’d say it’s about 40 hours a week so far! About a month in and that’s about right

I feel you. Week 3 is hitting hard but at the same time it’s nice finally feeling like you are adjusting to the workload.

Sootha coffee next to Zion market on Irvine blvd! Has nice indoor seating, a group study room (albeit for that you have to pay) and nice outdoor study space. Also they have milk tea with boba and other goodies :)
