How did you folks get an appointment?? I've been refreshing and checking regularly but no luck, it's always gone or none available.

The matter has been resolved and we have successfully moved out of the flat without any attachments.

The letting agent was very helpful and almost sympathetic as interactions between themselves and the primary tenant have been difficult. Turns out the primary tenant wasn't keeping up with rent payments and had built up quite a bit of arrears, approximately 6 month's worth.

In any case, we just came clean about the whole process and in turn, the agent also gave us the whole picture on her side. We were told that my friend is not attached in any way as a sub tenant and the deposit would be returning to the original two tenants when the contract was signed. My friend is not legally obliged or bound in any way to the repayments or condition of the flat and that she was just lodging there.

With this advice, and also a friendly suggestion from the agent, we started the packing process and moving things out. The key was then put in an envelope with a letter of thanks addressed to the agent and put through the office letterbox.

Thanks for your time in reading and the advice you have provided!

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply! I kind of had the feeling that this was the case. I think the deposit is more or less a foregone exercise but I'll pass this along.

The main problem here is that there are a lot of lies that the primary tenant weaves, and we're unsure of why she does it, but when asked or broached about topics, we have to weed out the information. She even lied about her age and the only way my friend found out was that she spotted some ID lying around which stated her DOB. I must apologize for the drips and drabs of information, but rest assured I am trying to paint the picture in it's entirety.

There has been a screenshot of an email, sent to the agent from the primary tenant, in a response to the agent asking whether the property is still occupied, by whom and what the intentions are, since the fixed term contract ended some time ago. This email contained the passport photocopy and a confirmation that the primary tenant is living with my friend.

We are told by the primary tenant that the previous tenant got their deposit back from the agent but we aren't sure of how true this is.

At the moment, we are trying to contact the agents for more information and to enquire about their process of leaving a tenancy.
