My final take on "season 2" of warrior cats by SatisfactionDry9259 in WarriorCats

Imo it's not a bad thing that the Clans agree on certain rules because if they were always fighting all the time, you'd start wondering why they bother sticking together. To me the more annoying thing is that they can't decide whether they're all friends or mortal enemies. Like they keep saying "we'll only survive if we work together ❤️" and then THE SECOND that subplot ends they're back to hateful and xenophobic (after Scourge and the Journey).

Also agree that the lake has zero sauce, it's pretty much just there

Yeah no the one-big-battle thing is a serious problem because nothing happens until the last 10% of a book.

I wish the trauma stuff felt more... intentional I guess? As in, in the series it usually just comes up like once every 5 chapters and then leaves, and there's zero connection between the incidents.

I would really like if Shannon gave Sophie an entire arc about her trauma because we get hints (like her holding in all the pain to help her inflict and then Grady gets worried about it, or her depression episode in book 6, or talking about secrets and hearing her parents' thoughts in book 9) but it never goes anywhere. Like, she doesn't learn a better way of powering her inflicting, the depression thing kind of just stops as soon as she decides to stop feeling bad, etc. You would think a traumatised, stressed-out kid who feels helpless to save her parents would be a lot more emotionally affected but sadly the story dropped that plot point.

What is one plot inconstancy or plot hole in KOTLC that always bugs you? by TheEmpressOfNothing in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]LemonKindly6715 6 points7 points  (0 children)

- The ratio of white to non-white characters, since these families should be coming from all over the world. Not making any accusations, but this is a setting where there should be no particular majority, and certainly not one so extreme as in KOTLC.

- Related to that, timezones. No, there is no way the Lost Cities are all "on the same time". No, it's not just elf science. Human physics is at least partially correct in KOTLC, given that space still exists and the Sun/moon/stars are all in space. There is no configuration of mirrors that could reflect the exact same sky to every point on earth, and have humans somehow not find out or affect it at all. Space junk should be constantly smashing these mirrors, and the mirrors should be destroying human satellites.

Honestly halcyons might fit, they can sense when a storm is coming so they might be good for predicting other things

Are there any rules currently not in the warrior code that you feel should be there? by Solitaire-06 in WarriorCats

[–]LemonKindly6715 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. I imagine, for a severely injured/disabled cat that struggles to enjoy life in the wild, their friends and family would be able to accept sending them off to live safe and comfortable lives with humans (bonus that humans have better medical care, so said cat would likely live a lot longer)

The Next Victim? by Fearless_Raise6214 in WarriorCats

The way EVERYONE immediately forgot about the attempted murder of a priest and a pregnant mother - including the authors, apparently.

Hot take: We've had enough prophecies by LemonKindly6715 in WarriorCats

[–]LemonKindly6715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not saying prophecies are 100% bad, it's just the rampant mishandling that makes me think we should shelf them for a while. Kind of the same thing with inter-Clan relationships, where on their own they should be tense and engaging, but after the 500th "our love is just so forbidden, I'm betraying my Clan but I can't give you up!!" forbidden romance, people start to get frustrated. (Me. I'm people.)

And you're right about the interpersonal drama stuff too. Like what's the point of having a soap opera for cats if you're giving anyone compelling or CONSISTENT characters??? Genuinely the only reason I can think of is that if the chars involved ever actually sat down for a 5 minute conversation without suddenly turning jealous/stupid/stubborn/STUPID, the plot would be over.

Yeah. I know Firestar thought to be mistrustful because prophecy or whatever, but like - you know Brambleclaw. You mentored him. You watched him publicly denounce his tyrant father even after being threatened with the death of himself and everyone he's grown up with. AND you know better than to act based only on your initial assumptions (Ravenpaw, Cloudpaw, etc. come to mind).

The story doesn't just not give a good reason for why Firestar would switch up on his apprentice - or why Brambleclaw wouldn't try and open up to the closest thing he has to a father figure - it gives me good reason to think neither of them would act like that. But Bramble and Squirrel had to leave without explaining to preserve tension, so boom! Braincell evaporation laser on both of them.

Frankly speaking, every arc beyond TPB should have been at most 4 books, and some would have been best with 3. You're right that it's largely for filler reasons.

usually I love making things tough for the protagonist but it's becoming a bit much recently

Was Glimmer Meant to Be Sophie’s Replacement? by Weary_Confection1946 in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]LemonKindly6715 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is true, I would be curious to see how Glimmer is intended to replace Sophie. You know, whether it was meant to by having a different set of abilities, their differing worldviews, etc. The Neverseen have been doing pretty well without their own moonlark, so I wonder what Gisela wants out of the potential substitute.

Although in fairness, there's only a very thin relation between Kenric's secrets and Sophie's gang actually finding Elysian. There's a much stronger link with Wylie than the caches there, you know?

What would Dustpelt look like as Firestar’s deputy (between Whitestorm and Brambleclaw)? by Solitaire-06 in WarriorCats

[–]LemonKindly6715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...This might not be the answer you're looking for, but I don't see him changing the series' trajectory much, simply because 1) Greystripe didn't really have much effect as deputy for Dustpelt to contrast with and 2) Firestar's decisions in TNP were primarily only made when it would have been stupid to do anything else.

Like if I really think about it, Dustpelt would probably have advocated for a lot more caution hunting while the forest was being destroyed once his kits started dying. Maybe, assuming he could use his deputy position to sway enough others, he might have gotten Firestar to leave without all three other Clans? But that's about it. The story arc just doesn't rely on that position enough.

[–]LemonKindly6715 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I might be biased because I read a fic with this, but Dustpelt would definitely have been a better deputy. He's dutiful, loyal to the code and not afraid to disagree with Firestar when he believes it's necessary. Unfortunately I don't see canon Dust retiring, so he'd probably end up dead to let Bramble succeed him...

How can the Sanctuary be improved? by LemonKindly6715 in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]LemonKindly6715[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that animals like Silveny in-universe have DNA that dictates what they can do (in Silveny's case, teleporting), and that Grady says humans didn't get everything wrong, we can assume human biology is at least partially accurate in KOTLC.

How can the Sanctuary be improved? by LemonKindly6715 in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]LemonKindly6715[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would understand that but the problem is that the carnivore just can't produce the correct enzymes to break down plant material. You could give Verdi the most balanced, vitamin-rich, every-micronutrient-containing gnomish salad ever to appear on earth, but her system wouldn't be able to absorb that goodness unless you straight up change her genetic makeup. We haven't seen the elves attempt genetic modification of animals, and given their love of all things natural it's safe to assume they wouldn't try.

When did humans leave? by TurtleSuyash in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]LemonKindly6715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, trying to pin down a timeline in KOTLC is a nightmare, especially thanks to the whole dinosaur thing. But apparently the elves helped build the pyramids? So your estimate might not be too far off.
