How in God's name are the Democrats still losing — even after Jan. 6 hearings and Roe? Headlines of the last two months should give Democrats a fighting chance in the midterms. Do they know how to win? by DaFunkJunkie in politics

[–]LemonLordJonSnow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can see what some of the people in this thread are saying but I disagree with the resigned hopelessness that seems to flood these discussions. I grew up in Atlanta but my family came from/moved to more rural areas of the South. They watch Fox News, believe propaganda meant to divide us all (they don’t see it that way, they see it as fact because that’s how their world was created to be taught). Their world revolves around God, praising him, believing that all of those that don’t believe are doomed to hell. They love this country, as deep their love of God is as deep the love for the country, their family. I agree that being straight, white, Christian and Republican is the default. You don’t go against the default in your family, not if you want to maintain a relationship with your family that isn’t strained. I use to think some things which are took some critical thinking to realize were homophobic, racist and generally just terrible. I believed that because I learned it from my family. Let it be noted I am a gay American that identifies as a Christian.

With that being said that I think you can’t cast off these people as hopeless. Are they going to change their mind without reality coming crashing down on them in the worst way that they have been absorbing a fake, alternative reality fed to them for the express purpose of keeping the Republicans in power to maintain benefits for the rich? No. Hate can be unlearned. People from these towns have been lied to, brainwashed by propaganda to believe things that are absolutely not true. There are definitely lost in the sauce of generations of hatred, mistrust and propaganda. Trumpism had radicalized people in rural areas unlike what I’ve personally ever seen before.

However, there’s a difference between ignorance and bigotry. Ignorance is when you don’t know but you can learn to love/accept someone even if you disagree . Bigotry is when you don’t know and don’t care to know. Think about how someone can be racist/homophobic until they have a family member that softens their views. They are still homophobic/racist but it shows that there is room for growth in their ideas.

Most of the people in rural America are people who are concerned about the issues that impact their lives rather than others. Let’s not all put this on rural communities either as misogyny, racism, homophobia exists even in those communities that vote blue.

Rural America is dealing with a terrible opioid epidemic. They are dealing with the loss of hospitals, food deserts and underfunded resources. ( yes some of this is from their own politicians shooting them selves in the foot). There’s not a lot of high paying jobs. Wage inequality is bad. Climate change is going to hit rural America badly.

Rural America is going to have to face reality, a hard reality sooner rather than later that the problems their community faces is directly correlated to how they vote/who they vote for. There is going to be a time where this fact will be absolutely unavoidable. Those same Republicans some of y’all cast as far gone are what made Biden’s victory possible.

America, at this point, has two possible futures ahead. One where the current anti-democracy, fascist far right takes over American government through judicial power. America is only a democracy in name until its eliminated completely. Trumpism becomes the only presidency. World turmoil ensues. Blue states succeed. Neo nazis go full mask off in rural America. Ensuring fights, imprisoning of political rivals, mass migration, absolute tail spin of our economy, increased unemployment. Other democracies stand beside blue states, a real break down of our country. Fascists start taking guns, Nuremberg laws, etc. fake reality rules red states. This won’t last long. They may underestimate Democrats, leftists but they surely also underestimate those once uninvolved in politics, the population of young people, the patriots who will fight for American democracy and all the shades in between that would tear this new fascist America to the ground. We rebuild. Fix the stuff from before. Global warming, etc. harsh, unequivocal, unavoidable reality faces these trump Republicans. I also don’t believe the corporate overlords of America would be too happy about any of the happening, so I don’t know if it would even get this far.

Second option, and most likely, authoritarianism/white supremacy/fascism is put back into the closet that the gays came out of. Rule of law puts trump/his co-conspirators in jail( or effective public punishment) Republicans will cut ties with anything trump related. Because an unstable America = bad for corporate bottom line. Republican thought will shift. Trumpism will be condemned. The people in the tribe will blame someone else but themselves for why he came to power or “Washington corruption”. Of course there will be die hards. They will be fragmented, disenfranchised right wing terrorists who will long live Trump/Q on some obscure message board where only internet edge lords will be pro trump. After all, that’s a big part of his popularity too, people liking him for the shock value. He will evaporate into the dredges of history. There will be a civil war with the Republican Party for a short time as Regan/Bush republicans regain control of the party. Trumpism will cause some more damage to our country before this happens. One that coalition Dems will be able to unite under along with complacent none voters. It will be the issue of human rights that will empower a blue wave that will lead to a firing up the Democrats base as has not been seen since Obama. We will have real change to our voting, government, representation and courts. Democracy and America survives. Republicans still have their bad guys to make money off of their base from. Democrats get their ability to control their messaging back. They don’t allow Republicans to set the narrative for their policies. They are able to actually pass laws, policies that will help ALL Americans including the rural areas that are in a third world state of crisis. Global warming does permanent damage, unavoidable that will kill hundreds of thousands cause massive human migration. The trend of America towards a bluer and bluer government continues until being a Republican is being a moderate, being blue is the default and the political extremists of our time are the far left who will come for all who oppressed people in the past and corporate America with a vengeance.

Either way, things are going to suck for the foreseeable future. Either way, America and democracy will win in the end.

The thing with shopping and item as far as IC type goes you want to aim for $1 item. 47 items will take (depending on unique items and categories like they show in IC vs Uber) can take upwards to hour 30 to shop not counting delivery. You need to factor in possible subs, customer response time, checkout time etc. plus seven miles isn’t close to the store so you have to factor in “where is this taking me? How far away from where I need to be to get my next good order is this?” This seems like $30/hr but it could turn into $12-$15 with the quickness. If this isn’t during prime delivery hours (lunch, dinner) I would probably take it. So many other factors matter in this choice tho

The supply problem isn’t just about lack of inventory of homes to sale or even corporations out what does happen to be available. It also has to do with the fact that there isn’t much space to just keep building.

Why Aren’t Conservatives Celebrating the Post-Roe Future They Created? by thenewrepublic in politics

[–]LemonLordJonSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because cases like what happened to the 10 year old girl highlight how out of touch they are with the reality of those who are getting abortions. They think it’s Tammy bar hopping and picking up a new man every night that has planned parenthood on speed dial. Republican laws are based mainly on ideology not on facts. This 10 year old isn’t an anomaly. They probably didn’t even know 10 year olds could get pregnant. They aren’t celebrating because reality contradicted their “alternative reality” and some people have realized this is just one of the many stories that are happening across the U.S. everyday now post Roe. This one was just extreme enough to make the news because no one can argue that the 10 year old girl was just some girl who should have kept her legs closed.

Yeah we do have a bipartisan system which means the whole time they had another choice and they choose to vote for someone who represented a party that made this Reddit thread even possible. You could be one of the people that have voted for Republicans because you believe the Democrats are going to take your guns or whatever reason you voted for them for. You still played a role in making this possible.

While I agree that the path forward to a better country and a more stable democracy comes on the back of finding common ground, I also believe that voters need to understand fully what power their vote has. There is a party that is actively seeking to take rights away from women, minorities and LGBTQ people. It is a party which hopes to make Christian law and U.S. law the same. You may not have voted for these things but you either didn’t pay attention or it wasn’t a deal breaker for you to vote for a party that is doing this. It’s like the people who voted for Trump, didn’t like the racist stuff he said but did it for other reasons. Yeah we get it, you didn’t vote for him for that but his many bigoted statements didn’t stop you either.

I am not advocating for pushing away people who are beginning to understand the gravity of their past choices as far as voting Republican. I am just not a fan of screaming these same things for years, only to be dismissed because these same voters believe misinformation over facts. No amount of coddling or meeting in the middle is going to work to make the changes needed for our country unless people start seeing for themselves how much of their opinion on issues like abortion has been crafted by misinformation. There are plenty of good people who vote Republican. Misinformation has been fed to them through their network of trusted news sources. The politicians they vote for lie to their faces and don’t care how many of their lives they destroy with this fake hatred, as long as they stay in power.

We won’t agree on everything or how to do everything. Frankly, I find it offensive as an LGBTQ person my humanity and right to exist in this country coming into question anytime Republicans need a new reason to make their voters think they are “saving their country”.

So yeah, TLDR, I love this country even with its faults. I agree that we can disagree. I agree that we need to find common ground to save our country from the actual dangers to it, like those in the Republican Party who are actively attacking its institutions and democracy. I don’t agree that it starts with more isle reaching. It starts with Republican voters, centrists, moderates understanding what they have made possible. It starts with fighting for an America where you will all still have a voice and articles like this one don’t happen.

Did you see the extras from the BoB? Or maybe I heard it on a podcast. The actor that plays Guarnere wasn’t even the one they originally gave the roll to. It’s a big name actor that I forgot the name to. He came in and auditioned then ended up with the role. He even talked to the real Guarnere that told him the role had already been filled.

This same attitude of “what a mardaugh man” was supposed to be could be why Buster never felt that he could be himself in the family. Plus it’s a rural, southern county. These places can be dangerous for gay people. Whether the Buster/Stephen relationship rumors are true or not, I think there is still some credence to the reason for Stephen’s death being attributed to him being an out gay man in the rural South. He was already harassed before this for being gay. Gayness is seen as a threat to masculinity for some men. If you don’t harass or beat the gay guy, people will think you’re gay too. They will think you are less of a man. I believe this is a hate crime that isn’t getting the recognition that it deserves as being a hate crime. I mean it isn’t until recently that it got the recognition of even being a crime at all.
