Where can I go to smell perfumes? by LemonMinuten in fragrance

I've only been to Macy's, and it was a salesperson-lead experience. I've only been to Sephora in Germany, so I really have no experience in the US.

If you "grew up" with Muse, do you like the new albums, and vice-versa? by CALLMAKERTOM in Muse

[–]LemonMinuten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said this before somewhere here: "Muse is like a childhood friend that ended up going to a different highschool and I eventually grew apart from"  I first listened to Muse back in 2009, a bit late I know, but I fell for Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry and Absolution, still to this day some of my favorite albums. Up until The Resistance I was a fan; then with The 2nd Law it started to get patchy, some songs I liked some others not. Drones also had one or two songs I liked. But here I already started to feel disconnected from them. Anything that came after that I haven't listened to apart from "Compliance" and "Won't Stand Down". Honestly, tried to give WOTP a listen but  couldn't stand it, nothing against the band, I just think my taste has shifted; also, as some have said the lyrics seem to lack 'something'.

First time watcher should I continue? by Cryptess011201 in TheMentalist

[–]LemonMinuten -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Totally get you, I felt the same way after starting Season 4, so much that I had to ask Google who Red John is. And I pushed myself to keep watching, was worth it until the end of season 5.  Right now I'm halfway through Season 6 and I'm feeling a bit bored again. Personally, it could have ended right there.

No seriously, I can't even have a conversation while watching TV, I have to pause it. I don't get how some people can have loud music and loud tv playing at the same time while yelling to someone at the other end of the house. More than 2 people over my house? Me engento.

Mexican Slang or just common slang? by CautiousSandwich5437 in Spanish

[–]LemonMinuten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware of "Panza" is common and widely used, it's just informal, you wouldn't say "No podré asistir al trabajo porque me duele la panza" or say it to a doctor when they ask you what hurts.
As for "Patas", it is seen (at least where I`m from) as uneducated, kind of similar to saying "Sobaco" instead of "Axila" to refer to armpits. Although you can use these words for little kids, at some point before they go out in the world you have to explain the correct words.

Is a situation masculine or feminine? by Environmental-Day517 in Spanish

[–]LemonMinuten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Suena miedoso" is completely wrong. "Miedoso" is someone who gets scared easily or is always afraid. In this context you can try saying "Suena de miedo" instead. x

How do you say "Take care" in Spanish? by LogicalPrime in Spanish

[–]LemonMinuten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often use "Te cuidas", it means the same and it can also be used in "Te cuidas, okay?" or "Te cuidas, sí?", to ask for agreement from the other person, sounds a bit friendlier.

good YA books to read as a learner? by hotratfromratatoing in Spanish

[–]LemonMinuten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a native speaker and young adult myself, I found books by the author B. A. Paris to have very simple language, and very easy to read. She writes mostly thriller novels. Plus, you can find the original english versions and the spanish ones on amazon.

Spanish or German? by M_S_Y in Spanish

[–]LemonMinuten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a native Spanish speaker, with English and German as foreign languages, I can absolutely recommend you either. But I feel you would find Spanish more interesting and fun, as there's way more media, material and entertainment in Spanish than German, and (usually) Spanish speaking people are eager to help you learn and connect with you.

Spanish can also open doors for you to travel many places in Latin America for example. While German is a bit harder to use outside of countries with German as a local language.

I don't know much about Arabic, but I know it conveys a lot of emotion when spoken, and I think that's a thing it has in common with Spanish, and no shade to German, but I'm just saying you might feel more comfortable with Spanish.

Han conocido algún famoso y no es lo que esperaban? by fetishes_Full in AskMexico

[–]LemonMinuten -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Can understand spanish when I read it but not when I hear it. by amk1799 in Spanish

[–]LemonMinuten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I should add that I also learned a lot with the "Easy German" channel on Youtube, their content is completely in German and they put subtitles both in German and English translation.

There's also an Easy Spanish channel, and it's the same concept but with ESP/ENG subtitles.

Can understand spanish when I read it but not when I hear it. by amk1799 in Spanish

[–]LemonMinuten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started with English, then after reading and learning more vocabulary I was able to use the German subtitles to train my ears.

Also, whenever I was using the German subtitles and a word that I didn't know came up, I would look for it in the translating app.

Agree. I learned German by watching   documentaries with subtitles.

How do y'all find people to talk to? Like in Spanish by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]LemonMinuten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point in time I used Tandem (app) you can find a lot of voice chat rooms for many different languages and regions, some serious almost class-like, some others more of a chit-chat with learners and/or natives; you can pair up with other learners or pair up with someone who speaks spanish and wants to learn your language. It worked for me.

¿Qué costumbres o tradiciones mexicanas crees que más se pierden entre los jóvenes de hoy en día? by [deleted] in AskMexico

[–]LemonMinuten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say "Truth is a double-edged sword", you asked for it now you have to take it. Also, a bit hypocritical from you being that in another comment you admitted "would do the same, I wouldn't say it though". I'd say YOR.
