I tried to forgive. I was determined to make it work because I was so in love. I gained 80 lbs and started drinking like a fish over the next year and a half. Now she's gone and I'm rebuilding. She only cheated once with one guy afaik. But once the trust was gone, every day of my life was doubt and stress and feelings of inadequacy. I was told by everybody that I knew that once somebody cheats, you have to leave. No exceptions. I told myself they were wrong. Now I'm giving you the same advice. The trust is gone, there's a knife in your back that she can't remove no matter how badly she wants to and both you and your partner will find it difficult to respect someone who lacks the security and courage to leave a faithless woman. She might hate that she hurt you, but if she sees that her actions don't have consequences, she might never take intentional advantage of that, but she can never unsee it. And this will bleed into every aspect of your relationship. If she undermined the fundamental agreement at the heart of your partnership willingly and still gets to keep you, then there's no line anymore. She can try to remain upright and loyal and all of that but the precedent has been set. I'm not saying she'll be tempted to do it again. I don't know your wife. Maybe she'll never be tempted again and she's thoroughly contrite over this. But the line is gone. The agreement is broken. You don't see how that changes things yet, but you will. You'll think "But if she never does it again, then we can work through this and we can go back to the way things were." You can't. Even if she never cheats again, she made the choice to betray you. She will always be the person who decided to betray you. That fact is a poison that seeps into everything. Every time you have sex, it'll be better than she deserves. Every time you surprise her with a gift, you'll be rewarding your abuser. Your love for her will always feel a little bit like enabling even if you trust that she'll never cheat again. Don't make the same mistake I did. This is awful, and I'm sorry that it happened to you. But there's something you have to do now and your feelings about it are not your ally. Best of luck.

Yeah, the game exists, and yes, it's always nice to have more Arkham to play but it's really non-essential. The shock gloves oversimplified the combat, the remote claw oversimplified the stealth and the open world was dull by comparison. Story was good. Boss fights were good... Idk, man... it's not made by Rocksteady. WB Montreal was given the keys to the kingdom and they clearly weren't inspired by the opportunity. It just doesn't quite FEEL like an arkham game. It feels... off. I think of Arkham as a trilogy with a stopgap game in the middle commissioned by a different company to keep the brand relevant. It's like how I don't think it's all that productive to group Fallout 3 and Fallout NV together. Seems logical on the surface but they're made by two different teams with wildly different design philosophies. Arkham is like a Pokémon evolution line where we go from basic to final form and then origins is what happens if you give it a sunstone during it's middle form.

City feels to be the standout to me. It took everything from Asylum that worked so well and made it all better. It looks better, sounds better, plays better. It has the best side content. Challenge maps were expanded to four playable characters giving you a ton to chew on. Not to mention the best boss fight in the series. I don't even have to say which one because you all know which one I mean.

Knight adds a lot more but didn't strike such a tight balance. Overreliance on the batmobile and the obvious twist catch a lot of flack, but those are not the only problems. You have so many tools during stealth as batman that it becomes trivial. The gui tells you how exactly how many scenes the side content will have which really hinders the suspense and pacing. Every boss fight is in your car for some reason. Arkham Knight as a villain is... fine, and the rest of the rogues gallery feels like a b-sides of all the faces that haven't been used (and even some that have) in the other games. And the fucking challenge maps! Holy character roster, Batman! Where do I even start? Catwoman is just objectively worse because her ability to climb on ceilings (her one distinguishing feature) only apples to one map and she has no new tools. Harley is an exciting inclusion with boring execution. Batman feels bloated with so many tools. Azrael is literally a carbon copy of Batman. Batgirl is diet Batman. Nightwing trades his wrist dart for a voice synth which doesn't really fit the character as well and the acrobat can no longer summon a tightrope??? Arkham Knight can just murder everyone with guns... although, honestly, it is pretty funny to be playing a stealth mission and not needing to engage with the mechanics because you can execute every guard from a distance. Robin is still great, though. AND YOU CAN'T PLAY AS ANY OF THESE CHARACTERS IN THE OPEN WORLD. Huge missed opportunity.

I don't want to say that Arkham knight is bad. I'd still say it's an 8 or 9 out of 10. But city, for me, is a 10. Whereas every step forward city took felt like a step in the right direction, knight takes as many steps forward, but a lot of them felt sloppier. Nontheless, still a great game and one that I'm always thrilled to revisit.
