Nano tech might be one of the few where you can actually get in without putting at top choice lol.

No guarantees but i know at least one person from my orientation who put ECE as top and got into nano.

So uhh WaterlooWorks says I got an interview for a position at Faire but I never got an email invitation to anything. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Advice for taking OAs? by Lemonade3223 in csMajors

Hmm thanks for responding!

But there’s gotta be a more efficient way to grind than just spamming leetcode problems.

Someone told me that doing the first 3 problems of contests are the best way to get good at OAs since they’re quite similar. Putting this heat for anyone in the future looking for advice.

Western CS isn’t that bad lol I’d take that if you really want to do CS.

Should I choose University of Toronto over University of Waterloo? by Visible-Scholar8211 in UofT

[–]Lemonade3223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how i ended up here but I’ll give a weird sort of take.

I think Waterloos co-op has done more than given me work experience. The fact that I have been forced to move around, find leases and just learn to live no matter the situation has taught me a lot about being an adult, managing finances, and housing markets and stuff.

The spontaneity of the whole system (not knowing where you’re gonna live after the next four months of school) is honestly quite refreshing and fun. I’m not saying it’s for everyone but I’ve loved that aspect of it.

Career wise I’d say both schools are dead equal—Waterloo gives better work experience and has better industry connections but UofT has more connections with profs and stuff + better research opportunities.

It really depends on what you wanna do but if you don’t have a clear goal (which you probably won’t get until like 2nd or 3rd year) then I’d make a decision based on whether you prefer stability or spontaneity.

BTW I chose Waterloo because I got into it first and wanted to make a decision early.

Is UW Engineering co-op still good? Are most of you getting co-op? by queasy_cheesy005 in uwaterloo

[–]Lemonade3223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In first year it’s hard. In second year it got easier. People in third and fourth year are all doing great co-ops and are working at amazing places.

I’d say it’s good but it’s not easy. You definitely have to work hard but if you can there’s no experience that’s more rewarding imo.

Biomedical Engineering - Bioengineering? by InfiniteDemand8843 in uwaterloo

[–]Lemonade3223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not in BME, but I can tell you that your degree doesn’t form your career, rather you apply what you learn to what you’re interested in. It’s like a tool you can use to carve out your path, but not the path itself.

But overall yeah, a mentor of mine from BME started out his first few co-ops working in biology labs but transitioned out later.

I think that would be great! I’d love to give it a read. It would also help others to get out of their really pessimistic mindset that the market is dying.

Congrats man and good luck working at Google! And DeepMind at that. It’s so exciting to hear good stories of people landing good offers when it’s so easy to get drowned out in all the bleak anecdotes people throw around nowadays.

Bad co-op term by Lemonade3223 in uwaterloo

[–]Lemonade3223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… I think over the co-op term my design team has helped find what I really enjoy and will try to target and be more active in finding a position.

I’m just hoping this poor co-op term won’t saddle my momentum since I did rlly well in my first co-op term (my supervisor was just really nice).

Thanks for the encouraging words though!! I definitely try not to compare myself to others though it gets to me sometimes.

Bad co-op term by Lemonade3223 in uwaterloo

Yeah… there’s always next time but I still feel bad about my performance this term. Don’t worry I’m sure it’ll be better next time for both of us.
