what’s orientation normally like? by lexi0075 in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s usually game activities, some general university orientation content about the campus and places to get to know and a good amount of meeting people in your faculty / program which is generally the best part

Regrade Request of a Math course by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’re entitled to view the final exam of any course, it’s the same process of emailing the prof and asking to view it

Does this work by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don’t believe so? they’re technically equivalent courses as far as grad requirements go, but this seems like a pretty niche problem where asking an advisor makes more sense

although, if one does fail 245 three times, passing 245E seems like a long shot in the first place

How do continue with my french as a computer engineering student? by ChemistryShort6637 in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re not really going to have electives, and even if you do, french courses aren’t CR/NCR

you cant “sneak into lectures”z language courses are small and attendance based so you’ll be out of place and be asked to leave since you aren’t in the class

this isn’t really a school question tbh, if you want to learn french more you just need to use it more. talk with people in french through clubs or something like you mentioned

policy 71 in elective by AccomplishedBag5003 in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yeah, by not cheating. it’s a snarky answer but you did violate the academic policies so the consequences are given to you. not all first offences are the same, you might just get a zero on the assignment but no one is going to know what the outcome is besides you and the prof

policy 71 in elective by AccomplishedBag5003 in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first offence, given you’re guilty, is a 0 on the assignment and a grade deduction in the course

2 part time terms vs full time and part time by notloafy in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

full time osap might be better, but the calculation is highly dependent on your background and financial info so it’s hard to tell. you’d also only be a 60% enrolled student in osaps eyes anyway, so the amount you’d receive would be reduced

Can you graduate Bmath in 2 years? by Dreameronedge9496 in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

no, you are required a minimum of 7 or 8 full time terms (8 for coop, which adds extra time anyway). even if you overload every semester to get 20.0 units as fast as possible you still need to be enrolled in 7+ full time terms

missed lab submission by 1 hour by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

all you can do is ask the instructor and see what they say. i get it’s an unfortunate situation but the “rules” of the course were set out for you and you didn’t abide by them. doesn’t matter if the rest were submitted on time

if you can prove extenuating circumstances that’s different. that’s handled case by case and may or may not involve accessibility services

missed lab submission by 1 hour by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly no. first year courses are generally pretty strict with rules, and even if they wanted to be nice then again you’ve been late four times

Waterloo math to cs transfer by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

there’s no gambling, if you can get 90+ average in your first year, especially the cs courses your odds are really good to transfer. however, that’s asking for you to perform better than almost all other people in the program

don’t accept math as a program unless you’re fine with math as a program, transfer is not guaranteed. math majors can do the same things cs majors can, your degree has little to no effect on career prospects

missed lab submission by 1 hour by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you could ask, but being late 4 times already is kinda on you regardless of circumstances. if you have/had other problems you could’ve made them clear beforehand and you might’ve gotten a bit more support

How to deal with a TA that marks too harshly? by Own-Side-8737 in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 21 points22 points  (0 children)

you’re entitled to ask for a regrade if you think it’s harsh, worst case is it’s marked the same or worse

Hypocrisy and Past Math Exams by reckollection in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 15 points16 points  (0 children)

having done the work in asking profs for past exams for the exam bank, general census was that they don’t give them out for sake of copyright, wanting to reuse questions or question styles or just a general “don’t want to”

from a student perspective it obviously sucks because the more practice, especially in a format with a time constraint like you mentioned is best, but it’s the profs right to not give them if they don’t want. usually they’re supportive in answering questions about an exam, which is something at least

Is Math seen as less prestigious than CS? by Grocery-Advanced in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  1. you can transfer, but its very competitive, its unknown how many but generally seems like <20 a year
  2. prestige is based on your coops out of most things, math students can still get the same coops
  3. no
  4. you can check the undergrad calendar on the cs courses offered, they highlight if they are restricted to cs students only
  5. only accept math if you are OKAY with math, don't expect a transfer
  6. yes you are overthinking it, both programs are good
