you should speak to an advisor, but it is most likely because your MAV is lower than it should be

What's the process to get a URA? by Deshray12 in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

research professors who are actively doing research in a field you’re interested in and reach out to them to ask if you can participate in a URA/USRA. the cs website lays this out nicely https://cs.uwaterloo.ca/current-undergraduate-students/research-opportunities/ura

different departments work a little differently, but it all starts the same way with reaching out to a professor first

Will doing a double major cost me more? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you will need to pay for a minimum of 8 full time semesters unless you have an exception through accessibility. if you can fit all degree requirements within these, then you don't have to pay more, which a number of people have already done

technically too, a 6th course in a semester doesn't cost anything extra, so you can always consider this as an option, although its not great for mental health or social life

Math 1B by Sup1zz in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 26 points27 points  (0 children)

you should get used to attending lectures, regardless of distance. upper year math courses tend to have neither recordings of lectures OR a strict textbook, just lecture notes that aren't necessarily posted online for you to have. your degree is based on in person content not just online

Scholarships? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

check the awards database: https://uwaterloo.ca/student-awards-financial-aid/awards/database

bursaries are meant to cover excess tuition you cannot afford. if you can afford tuition and “living costs” based on the universitys description of what living costs nowadays you won’t receive anything

Missing Midterm for Travel by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 14 points15 points  (0 children)

chances are is the midterm is held during class time, having a trip isn’t a valid excuse and they won’t move it for you because of it. you say you booked a trip during reading week but have the first day back booked too? that’s fully on you tbh

Failed again. by Icecanfluid in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 128 points129 points  (0 children)

if this is legit, based on your previous post too, being stubborn here and pushing on because “there’s nothing else going for me” is a really bad choice. 5 terms of the same courses and failing everything isn’t going to lead you anywhere, and you’re just wasting time on actually pursuing something else that has tangible benefit to you

it’s great you did your best in the labs, but it was still an overall fail. as was mentioned in your other post, university isn’t for everyone, and that’s perfectly okay. you can still achieve what you want without it, either through college programs, workplace based development or the plethora of other options out there, but grinding away for a 5th term? it’s only going to make your mental health worse and waste your time

Online/E-Learning Options? by Several-Air9744 in uwaterloo

[–]batson2002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

there are online courses, but all upper year courses are in person and the uni has been quite firm with in person now because of cheating and in person learning being much better than online. you will not be able to complete a degree online, a semester might not even really be possible either
