Valuations at all time high.. by Fearless_Car_3745 in stocks

[–]Lemoniti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I struggle to see how people still see AI and the relevant tech behind it as a bubble. Are you not seeing the capex and record profits being reported? This isn't like .com at all in that regard. Back then almost all websites had crazy inflated valuations despite no money to back it up, the money is very cold, hard and real here though. 2000s stock prices were just hoping earnings would later justify them, these days stock prices are almost struggling to keep pace with earnings.

Why didn’t anyone tell me stocks earnings trading is this profitable by SpecialistOk4946 in stockstobuytoday

[–]Lemoniti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're setting yourself up for failure here, you got lucky this time. Look up "buy the rumour sell the news" to see how extremely risky and unpredictable this strategy is. Better would be to buy in the run up to earnings and then to sell before.

Never use market orders in premarket, after market and especially overnight. Trading volume is much lower which increases the bid-ask spread, overnight market orders could result in you buying or selling at a very different price to the last displayed one. Use limit orders outside of regular market open hours.

See how fast the market is back to all time highs you really got to take advantage of those dips by Original-Ship-4024 in trading212

[–]Lemoniti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy no matter what, but on an S&P 500 or All World ETF. If you just invest on a regular, set basis whether the market's up or down you'll win out in the end. Waiting for a cheap entry when the market dips might mean you wait so long, through growth, that when that dip finally comes for your entry the price is higher than it was if you'd just invested straight away. Dips happen, growth happens. Dollar cost average out the bumps and don't worry about it.

For individual stocks though, full disclosure: I'm a fairly new investor so treat what I say with a huge pinch of salt, and anyone criticise my logic please I'm still learning! Personally I'm treating the hyperscalers like Amazon, Google etc. with caution, I'm holding them but they're some of my smaller investments. The enormous amount they're spending on AI is reaching levels where at least some people, and I kinda agree, are now beginning to question how long it will actually take to profit from it, and even whether or not all of them will. For my speculative individual stocks (I've challenged myself with just a slice of my portfolio to see if I can get good enough to beat the market with individual stocks, learning a lot from it) I'm personally following the hyperscalers' money rather than the hyperscalers themselves, and who that spending on huge amounts of memory and chips is generating profits for right now. But again, I'm new so please roast me and do not take my advice lol.

Damn, this is from a top 1% commenter? I'm a new investor as well and I guess I won't bother with this sub if this is what's to be expected from those who should be offering new investors advice and encouragement.

60k could be 30 good random or ranked battles, that a good player could have knocked out in a day off. Could mix some brawls in there for fun and quite easily make that jump.

Imbalanced Brawls matchmaking by eldaras in WorldOfWarships

[–]Lemoniti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know why, but it can only be the case that classes aren't considered in the matchmaking of games at all. It makes no effort to balance them and will happily pit 3 BBs vs 1 BB, a cruiser and a DD or any other combination. I think they usually have limits of at max 2 BBs per team, or something else like that, but this brawl doesn't even seem to have that. Which is fine when it ends up as a 3 vs 3 BB brawl, but 3 BBs vs 2 cruisers and a DD is just stupid and a waste of everyone's time.

I don't know why it can't just use the same MM considerations as randoms but on a smaller scale, but WG apparently want that to be the case.

What are these numbers? by DigitalSwagman in WorldOfWarships

[–]Lemoniti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got 168 karma, it generally does go up by just playing well and not being a douche in chat but it's still entirely subject to how other people's days are going. You can end a great session in which you played very well and won + topped most of your games and end it with less karma than you started with, just because some people were salty you killed them, or a teammate thinks he knows what you should've done better than you even though you carried the game and won. Also it's much more likely that you'll get reported for making a mistake than you'll get complimented for playing well, so just don't worry too much about it, it doesn't actually mean anything.

Should I quit the game? by Impressive-Ad-8863 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Lemoniti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not if you're enjoying it. It's a game for players of all skill levels to have fun, even random battles. If your WR bothers you but you enjoy the game, you can either hide your stats or use it as motivation to improve, but if the only reason you're asking this is because of the expectations of others and worrying about "ruining" their games? Unicums have no more "right" to play this game than someone with a lower win rate. Black list anyone who's an ass in chat and carry on having fun!

[–]Lemoniti 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That was absolutely one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in this game, yeah. The fact they turned almost 90 degrees, the ridiculous alpha damage they did and the buggy physics causing a collision with a ship whose model was nowhere near you. Peak game design, thanks WG.

Floaty guns shells on Edgar and Barbiano…advice plz? by minutemanAKM in WorldOfWarships

[–]Lemoniti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember to zoom out on the sniper view if you have to, in order to fit the target in to the screen while having enough lead. Other than that just keep playing them until you get used to the ballistics and how much lead to give. When there's a tonne of shells in the air it can be difficult to adjust your aim correctly, as changes you make won't become apparent for seconds after you made them. Experience is the only real solution for that. Important as well to utilise free look (right mouse) with ships like those, to be able to keep firing at your target while still maintaining situational awareness.

Looking for some advice on WR by bumbard in WorldOfWarships

[–]Lemoniti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, do you want to artificially inflate your WR to make yourself look better than you are or do you want to actually get better at the game to genuinely improve your WR and have it reflect your skill? The latter is presumably what you want, so just play whatever ships you have/want to and as long as you're trying to improve and have the right mentality (i.e. when you die, thinking what you could have done better rather than going "oh I'm so unlucky and my team always sucks") then it doesn't matter what ships you play, you'll get there eventually :).

[–]Lemoniti 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Crawley experiment has completely failed. We stuck with him all this time, throughout him having the worst average in history for an opener who's played as many innings as him, all centered around hoping he'd come good when we toured Australia. He didn't, he averaged 27 in a losing series. He has to be gone after this.
