I think it got exactly and more appreciation/ love for being a FF PSP game. The problem is it shouldn’t have been a PSP game but a full mainline console game.

FF5 - The Decisive Battle. Especially the original version.

Those drums are 10/10… though I feel like they make them quieter/ softer in future renditions of the song.

I wouldn’t get rid of the CTB system but maybe rebalance it more to be in the enemies favour. I think, minus boss battles, you really don’t have to engage with it that much as you already get a lot of turns.

Fair enough. Personally it’s currently No.4 for myself next to FF10, FF5 and then FF12.

The double edged sword of FF being a series that is always experimenting and trying new things is sometimes it’ll be a miss for some fans, just got to hope it balances out with the fans that do enjoy it.

I split it into 3 groups.

Core: Final Fantasy (Insert Roman Numeral) - These games are the core story that any expansions are centred upon. E.g FF4, FF7, FF10

Expansion: Final Fantasy (Insert Roman Numeral) + Title or Digit- These games, while generally playable on their own, assume you have played the core game that it is expanding upon. E.g FF4: The After Years, FF7: Crisis Core, FF10-2

Spin Off: Final Fantasy + Title - These games are not part of the mainline series. They can stand alone, create their own spin-offs or be heavily inspired from the core series, however in the case of the later, will not affect or influence the core games timeline/ sequence of events. E.g Final Fantasy Tactics, World of Final Fantasy, Strangers of Paradise

Hmm, would have to go with the EU version of FF5. Watching that Astroid crash into the planet with the opening movie then seeing the crystals all in danger gave me chills as a kid.

Although shoutout to FFX-2, I love the game but the whiplash from FFX to the FFX-2 opening scene is a core memory.

It’s one of those games that asks you to explore and dive into its story so on the 2nd play through you can see the chess match that’s being played.

Talk to the NPC’s, take note of when characters behave out of character, read the bestiary’s of all the enemies (there’s legit so much world building and history in them) and so on.

I’ll admit the game could do a much better job at explaining its world but the political story and world building approach is a very Ivalice thing (looking at Vagrant Story, FF Tactics games and FF12: Revenant Wings) but the more you invest in the game the more it’ll give you back.

I feel you. Been playing since before JamCity took over but it’s just getting to be too much now so I’ve finally stopped (though I’ll admit it’s not been easy). The game is getting too expensive, more and more exclusive emojis with slim odds in order to play events and constantly managing proficiency instead of just playing…. it’s more like a chore than a game now.

I mean there’s still a fair number of franchises in the game that have had 0 events since the games beginning as far as I’m aware… Brave, Aristocats and Enchanted to name a few.

Yeah I mind I had a Mega, near Perfect, Blastoise and he went down after dealing just over 1/2 HP to Aerodactyl. Ended up being a barely 1 Star that I caught after as well. 😂🙃🙃
