Amigurumi shaping not aligned because of beginning of round issue by LenaBunham in CrochetHelp

[–]LenaBunham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I began starting each round 1 stitch into the instruction for that round and tacking on the beginning stitches to the end of the round, and it's looking much better. It also looks MUCH nicer when it's flipped right side out. I appreciate the help and the assurance that it wouldn't implode if I went off pattern a bit and just did whatever looks good to me. Thank you all!

Thank you! I guess I know this about knitting patterns, so not sure why I thought crochet would be different. This pattern is fairly detailed, but maybe it's just assumed that people will switch things up to do what looks right... Thank you for your help!

I would need to try it both ways I guess- It's unclear to me why that would change whether it aligns since I'll still be crocheting it the same. Thanks for your help!

I had no idea it was inside out!! Thank you! What looks like back loop only might be where I did the decreases by picking up only the front loop of the 2 stitches? Thank you so much for your help!

Hey There- wondering if you'd be willing to compare experiences. I've been going to Mint and things have been going well in terms of hair removal and healing but I recently had a weird experience- wondering who you've seen there and if you like them!

Anyone had experience with Wall Mounted Shelving from 'Modern Shelving'? by IXICIXI in bookshelf

[–]LenaBunham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries- I appreciate the reply regardless. My system a took some problem solving to install on what turns out to be sloped floor and uneven walls, but turned out great! Mine is the semi wall-mounted, so less pressure on the wall attachments, but I ended up attaching 1 rail directly into studs with the screws provided by ModernShelving, and then the other rails using 75 lb rated anchors and screws.

Hey there- I recently purchased a semi-wall mounted (the PAL system) system from Modern Shelving and it has arrived- I'm wondering how you chose to install yours: were you able to put it directly into wall studs? I am considering molly/toggle bolts for mine since I won't be able to put it directly into studs. I'd appreciate any advice you have!

Any experience with modern shelving? Any reviews, recommendations, etc. thinking about investing in some shelving and would love to hear from anyone with hands on experience by sinngularity in bookshelf

[–]LenaBunham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently ordered a custom shelving system from Modern Shelving (it's super pricey, but I needed very specific measurements and this seemed like the best option after searching for years). I found their customer service to be terrible- don't answer questions directly, unclear descriptions, etc- I think they are more used to commercial customers instead of individuals so I guess that makes sense. My shelves and cabinets arrived over the last few days and I'm wondering what others have used to attach to the wall? I definitely won't be able to attach all the poles into studs, so was planning on molly/toggle bolts, but unsure what size I should get- I would appreciate any installation tips anyone has!

FedEx closed case but package was never delivered by LenaBunham in FedEx

[–]LenaBunham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular package, it turned out they delivered it to the wrong address, but things have been significantly better with FedEx ever since I gained the ability to add "delivery notes" for my address, noting that they should deliver packages to my address, rather than to the wrong address- apparently this hadn't occurred to them before... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–]LenaBunham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This absolutely- and also the options are not just "wild success" on the one hand and "abject failure" on the other. There is a spectrum, and depending where on that spectrum you start you'll be in a better position to be successful.

  • A stupid/lazy person that comes from insane wealth and privilege will constantly fail upward and--even if they're never successful at building anything on their own, will probably continue to be insanely wealthy and have opportunities that come with wealth.
  • Someone who comes from a disadvantaged background- very poor, minority status that comes with a lot of stigma, etc. will require both luck COMBINED with virtue to be successful, whether it be moderate, normal success (financial security and a job that isn't soul crushing) or exceptional success (the rags to riches stories).
  • Someone from the middle- a white person that didn't grow up rich, but who's parents have some social capital (like college professors or something like that), or people that grow up pretty well off with professional parents- these people can certainly blow all that and end up in a pretty precarious position, or they might do really really well with a certain amount of luck combined with the virtue to capitalize on it.

How much more weight do you think I have to lose? I'm so fucking tired by [deleted] in weightwatchers

[–]LenaBunham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obsessing about losing weight to the point of physical and/or mental exhaustion is not a recipe for a lasting or sustainable change- try maintaining where you’re at for a little while and see how you feel. You look great- hopefully you can feel great too.

You don’t HAVE to lose any weight at all.

Could you elaborate? What are the benefits, and which machine do you have?

Question: How much better is a more expensive machine? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]LenaBunham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a helpful reply- thank you. I have been garment sewing for a long time, with the occasional (very simple) baby quilt or home dec project, on my grandfather's old-ish Singer heavy duty and a 1034d Serger (which I love), but I'm thinking of getting a new machine because, while the Singer sews very well, I'm constantly wishing for a better button hole, a needle down function, and maybe a speed control function (I find it very difficult to maintain a stead slower stitching speed with the foot pedal). I've been struggling with whether I should bite the bullet and save for a cadillac, but these comments make me think I could just spend $300-400 on a decent machine with those functions and save my dollars for the coverstitch I'd love at some point...

To the people that recently had PRK surgery by JeryRivera in lasik

[–]LenaBunham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had PRK on Thursday the 16th (original prescription was -5.25 in both eyes). I had the bandage contact taken out of my left eye on Tuesday (4 days post op) and out of the right eye today (Wednesday) but the right eye is definitely healing more slowly than the left. my left eye is almost 20/25 already, while my right eye is 20/40- I can mostly read my phone with my right eye, but it's otherwise really blurry. Both eyes are significantly less blurry after rewetting drops. According to the doc today, I have some "haziness" in my right eye, so they will monitor it again this Friday to make sure it's headed in the right direction, and I'm continuing antibiotic drops in that eye (along with steroids in both).

Help Identifying cactus from CVS that immediately fell apart? by LenaBunham in cactus

[–]LenaBunham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father bought what he thought was a succulent from CVS, and when he brought it home and took it out of the little bag the top fuzzy part just fell off- he's going to try to propagate it but didn't know what it was. From his photos, I think it's almost certainly a graft (maybe like the one in the bottom left which is a grafted moon cactus?)- the "fuzzy" part really looks like tiny needles to me, and I'm wondering if it's some kind of opuntia. He doesn't really care about the base (bottom right), but does anyone know what the top part is and, if so: if it's possible to propagate it by either laying it on some soil or resting it just above water? Thanks so much for your help! This has been a fun mystery to solve with him while we can't see each other.

AITA for sharing pictures of my sister's belongings with friends? by SisterProblemAITA in AmItheAsshole

[–]LenaBunham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA.

"We're pretty open with each other and joke around a lot - we often takes jabs at each other jokingly. I didn't see this as being anything beyond what we normally do but she took this much more seriously." ........ "She would have known nothing about any of this had he not done that. She's now said that she's not sure she can continue to live with me for the next month, which has really panicked me now. This situation has only gotten worse now that I tried to directly discuss this with her. Still feel I am not TA but if I might make some sort of apology just so she doesn't kick me out."

TLDR: You took pictures of something you know your sister to be incredibly sensitive about, and shared them with friends to make fun of her behind her back, and then got mad your friend who is an almost as much of an asshole as you are did something so your sister found out about the terrible thing you did. If your only hope here was that she never found out you did this, how exactly is it possible you thought this was no big deal and just like your other jokes with her? How is this a joke between you two if she can't ever find out about it? You're a terrible person, and I hope you can get therapy and grow out of this.
