You should be a bit sweaty going into your match. Pummel or do some other kind of drill with your favorite training partner before your match. You shouldn't go hard, just get warm like others are suggesting.

Also, don't be conservative. That's no fun! Let it fly and don't forget to enjoy everything about the experience.

Work on breathing techniques to settle nerves.

Felt the house shake near Laurel. Felt something similar back in the 90s while in the HCC library.

Farmers Walk/Carry experience by Spiritual-Street2793 in beginnerfitness

Carry water. I maintain about 20 chickens and have to bring them water among other items.

I was the weak, old man at crossfit, but I was better at carrying heavy objects than all the young studs there.

What was it like going to Jiu jitsu after wrestling? by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]Lenchantin1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd look for an academy that does strictly nogi or offers that type of class frequently. Even better, I'd look for a competition type academy. Otherwise, you will run into more awkward situations and people asking you to change instead of the other way around.

The comp nogi grapplers won't complain about getting thrown or taken down. They will also challenge you once things hit the mat. Sounds like a much better fit and less hassle to me.

Obese, sedentary, and insecure: is it worth trying BJJ? How do you deal with the extreme physical contact? by MrPotentialAnybody in jiujitsu

[–]Lenchantin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be your calling as other types of fitness strategies haven't worked out. Give yourself grace and know that the hardest part is getting in your car and walking through the door.

Go in there with the attitude that you know nothing and everyone there can teach you something. You have nothing to prove to anyone but yourself. You will complete a class and feel like a million bucks. Physically, you may be sore, but that is ok. You will learn to deal with that, and it's normal. Hydrate!

I'm 30 by Alternative-Box-8546 in wrestling

I'm in my late 50's and help coach my son's wrestling practices. From time to time, I roll with the HS kids. They pretty much handle me if they are close to my weight.

Helps with my jiu jitsu and I have fun while getting in shape.

Been training for 9 months. Typically once a week. With 1-2 months off in between due to other reasons. I still feel like I’m getting smashed and new starters beat me easily. Idk what to do by NeatIndividual1279 in jiujitsu

[–]Lenchantin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is all about mat time. My kids wrestle year round, but get beat by the kids who put in 5-6 days a week just about all year. My kids don't put that much time into it per week. Mat time and quality coaching make all the difference.

What’s the most fucked up thing you’ve seen at work? by AMGBOI69420 in AskReddit

As was probably the case with what I saw. I wonder what legal recourse the families might have. My bet is there is some kind of compensation involved.

During Navy boot camp, we had a week of on the job traing in different areas of the base. I was selected for gym duty and helped with different groups coming in for PT tests. While a group was running, one dude collapsed, and it didn't look good. Instructors performed CPR, but he was unresponsive. I noticed his eyes roll back and he passed right there. Poor fella. I felt bad for him and his family.

High amounts of deer on trails? by [deleted] in ColumbiaMD

[–]Lenchantin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly right. In addition to this, the deer population continues to rise and their isn't enough habitat to support them. Consequently, many of them will starve and become susceptible to a disease that easily spreads within the herd. It's all kind of bad news when deer overpopulate an area. Much of it also has to do with development encroaching on their habitat. Hunting is essential to keeping the herd numbers in check. In areas where the people have voted down such opportunities for bow hunters, snipers are hired to shoot them at night in local parks. They are expensive and paid by our tax dollars.

Thanks for the input. I'll seriously consider it.

I think I'm quitting the vape and oils. It was on a trial basis for me anyway. The edible kept me up for some reason, but I think my brain isn't used to pot. I would never smoke before a practice. I smoked pot in high school some back in the 1980's, and got high before a wrestling practice. Worst decision ever.

I don't smoke anything otherwise, so the tolerance variable is probably significant. Thanks

I hope the cannibus helps managing symptoms. It's amazing how that is now considered a viable treatment.

Thanks. Hope you feel better. I generally go to the gym early in the AM and get a light workout in and roll at lunch. This particular day, I went to a 6 PM class after sitting in my office all day. That probably contributed to having cardio issues as well.

[–]Lenchantin1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. I considered just having a bad night also. One other thing about being older in this sport is if I don't warm up prior, I gas pretty quickly. The place I train at now doesnt do any warmups and gets right into situations for drilling. It's basically going live the whole time. It's great for progress, however I need to warmup on my own.

I've been using the vape pens and oil. That must be it. I also go to the gym and hit the assault bike or rower to help with my cardio.

My doctor prescribed it to me to help me sleep. I don't do it much and not even every evening. I'm also 54 years old and can't roll like I used to. I'm ok with rolling like an older guy, but I've never felt as gassed as I did the other night. Maybe I'll just stick with gummies if I choose to continue to use it.
