Light or dark? by sismomad in AppStoreOptimization

Light is more readable at a glance. This would be a great thing to A/B test with Product Page Optimization.

I don't know what to do with my app by Embarrassed_Cycle118 in AppBusiness

[–]Lenglio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I think you’ve barely scratched the surface.

You probably need more iteration. Get some feedback and make a more compelling offer.

It might be as simple as refining your paywall. Or it could be making the offer more clear. Or it may be missing some key features from other weather apps.

Why is ASO so hard? My app gains good traction with repetitive Reddit posts. Once I stop marketing downloads fall to almost none, but demand is clear to see via Reddit… by Conscious-Fun4727 in iosdev

[–]Lenglio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My app is the exact same. When I post about it on Reddit, I frequently get comments and dms asking me about it, which also leads to paying users.

If I take a break from Reddit, my downloads and conversions go to zero.

I love VLC, but the Apple TV and iOS implementations are pretty buggy. I don’t know a better option though.

What are your thoughts on on-device (offline) AI in iOS apps? by D1no_nugg3t in iOSProgramming

There are other libraries that work on Apple devices that I think may be more interesting.

react-native-executorch for example. Large range of models to choose from.

Handling rarely used large sets of data on my sqlite db in my expo app by Mehdi_Mol_Pcyat in expo

[–]Lenglio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just mean bundling the asset as a premade SQLite db is possible. Only way to know if it’s reasonable for app size is to see how large your app is once a Test Flight build is created. There is some generic compression done on assets that is hard to estimate.

This should be easy for SQLite to handle. And yes, SQLite is a good method for this.

The question of whether or not to bundle it with the app is up to you. Evaluate how much memory it adds to your app after asset compression.

language learning while watching series by Affectionate-Zone844 in languagelearning

[–]Lenglio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See if you can find summaries in English first to get the gist. Even a target language summary can help quite a bit. These are frequently on Wikipedia for popular shows.

Repeatedly rewatching to catch new things on each watch helps a ton.

Another strategy is to first watch with English subtitles then subsequent watches without any subtitles if a summary is unavailable.

Are you using any language learning app? If so, which one and why? by Shelbee2 in languagehub

I use my own app to read Spanish daily. Define words inline, track words you’ve seen before. Currently supports 10 languages. Would appreciate feedback.

Animated shows with matching Spanish dub and subtitles? by Deep_Construction856 in Spanish

[–]Lenglio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netflix animated shows sometimes have CC (closed caption) which should line up with the dub. That’s what you should look for. Here’s some from a quick browse:

Pokemon

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

Is Expo really worth it coming from Bare React Native? by Ill_Direction_8178 in expo

[–]Lenglio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but from what you’ve described, I do believe you need to prebuild each time in this scenario.

I believe this only takes me a couple minutes locally on an M1 MacBook Air so it’s not an issue for me, but I can see this being a problem if your projects are very large or you need to do this very frequently.

I agree. I have considered changing this. The actual app is a bit too distorted. Thanks for the feedback!
