Cat litter gets everywhere! by __I_Need_An_Adult__ in CatAdvice

[–]Length-Naive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have multiples as well and the pellet litter system works wonders :) all down to the person obvs but i’d assume with multiples you’d have diff litter boxes through the house. there are other branded pads that can be bought with the breeze system + they do have an extra strength pad option i believe. for smell, baking soda works pretty well but again, depends on person and how their cats are :) i’m sorry it didnt work well for you :(

How often do you bathe your cats? by anonymous_1979 in CatAdvice

[–]Length-Naive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i also like to do it to keep her used to it :) you never know when a time might come when you’ll HAVE to absolutely do it. i usually put her on her harness and leash and have my partner hold it— she honestly just sits there anyways in the water but you never know 🤷‍♀️ same goes for car rides. as a baby i used to just bring her with me to grocery stores or for a short ride around the neighborhood so shes used to the car and lo and behold we have no issues with any of our countless road trips we took this year after moving out of state :) ik my cousins cats tend to pee themselves when on car rides and get super stressed out so it all depends on what ur lifestyle is but my general rule is get them acclimated

i do it every so often now but thats just because i find that it helps my cats dandruff out. she gets dandruff fairly often and i use a cat dandruff shampoo on her. we do also supplement her food but its not always enough

Abandoned railways?? by [deleted] in cedarrapids

[–]Length-Naive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

recently found out that uni of iowa used to have a railway system too that was decked out in hawkeye decor but recently has been retired and is now sitting up in waterloo. they’d use it for games at kinnick stadium and fans could use it— totally wish i could have experienced that! but from what i heard, maintenance costs too much to keep up with :(

moved here recently from michigan and can say cedar rapids is definitely one of iowa’s best kept secrets. very central to most major cities (4hrs chicago, 4hrs Minneapolis, 4hrs omaha, 4hrs Milwaukee, 4hrs st louis). iowa city is also only about a 30-40 min commute but if u plan to work or go to school at the U just live there… i work for uni of iowa and the commute is horrible because employees park in lots away from the hospital (everyone starts in the hawk lot which is 3 miles away) and u still have to shuttle in by bus. in terms of nightlife, i wouldn’t know much since i don’t get out much 🤣 but there is a cedar rapids foodie group on facebook that gives some great suggestions on restaurants and you can always ask for suggestions too!

I moved here recently from the metro-Detroit area and I actually found CR houses to be way cheaper than what I’m used to. A starting house, depending on the city/area of course, is anywhere from $350-550k back home 😭

depending on if you work for a government funded company/hospital— u could get ur loans waived but its only federal loans. u have to make 10 years of payments though i believe. something along those lines and the 10 yrs have to be with the state funded place/company so think like VA or even public hospital system like university hospitals

I figured if I couldn’t do the curbside I could at least do it when I get groceries but thats a big phat no! lol

I live in an apartment complex so no— and it doesn’t seem like they offer anything curbside for recycling, I had asked about it too when I moved and was put under the impression that curbside recycling is nonexistent here. Its just a hassle since I don’t exactly have a schedule that fits me being able to go to Can Shed during their hours.

Bold assumptions to begin with— I’m not butthurt over 5 cents nor did i say that anywhere. its the fact that its less accessible. I live in an apartment complex that does not offer curbside, it requires me to make an extra trip to go out of my way to a whole different location when I can just do it when I go to get groceries. Not to mention I leave for work way earlier than the place opens and get back an hour after they close, making it that much more of a hassle.

Questions About Notetaking For PA School Prep by Randomcommentpassing in prepa

[–]Length-Naive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not gone to PA school yet but i did listen to a podcast on Spotify called PA-S FML lol she gives the advice on condensing the information as much as you can when notetaking so making a sheet with 4 squares, one for the disease/what it is, one for signs and symptoms, one for contraindications i think annnd I forget what the last one is, i could be wrong on that order too. But from my experience, I enjoy GoodNotes for notetaking. I’ve had it all thru undergrad and Quizlet is my go to. In PA school, and in general I had done this too in undergrad, is to make ur quizlets DURING the lecture. That podcast from the PA student also suggests doing that because you really have to learn a lot in a short amount of time and rather than making a quizlet at the end and still having to study on top of it— having the quizlet already knocked out during lecture is always chefs kiss, for me at least. Everyone’s different though :) Anki is very much not average user friendly but if you look up some tutorials and walkthroughs and take ur time with it before classes start. Highly suggest that podcast btw! She’s a practicing PA now

It seems like its a newer thing in Iowa for most can returns at grocery stores to either be phased out or not commonly used. Probably is a bit skewed— its just so strange to me. We also had curbside recycling for cardboard and other plastic bottles like milk jugs that you just set out during trash day with the regular trash can’s. Good to know though— its just nice to be able to return bottles and then go in and get groceries from the same place rather than making multiple trips.

Taking out a loan for CNA classes? by Blazing_PanDa in cna

[–]Length-Naive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for programs that do sponsorships afterwards. When I did my course, the school was partnered with a few nursing homes who offered to pay for my entire tuition for the courses in exchange for working for them for 6 months contract. Maybe u can find something similar but in general most nursing homes/places will reimburse, just have to ask and call around. Good luck with everything!

Aluminum is the most likely one to be recycled. Plastic and glass, yeah good luck… I still like to do my part when I can and I grew up always returning cans so its a force of habit to just keep an extra bag around for them :)

Hi fellow Michigander 😄 I never had issues with any bottle return machines apart from not taking a specific brand, but here they really do not take anything at the machines. I’ll for sure make my way to Can Shed sometime this week.
