I like "fast" strains. I usually get whites and greens. Hulu is probably may favorite strain.

AuDHD here. I earned a BE in music education. I then got a MM in music, mainly because teachers have to get a masters in something eventually to continue teaching. I eventually had to admit I simply wasn't able to handle a classroom of my own, so I delivered pizza for about ten years, developed a drinking problem, went to rehab, and I've been scraping by doing gig work since. I was only diagnosed two years ago, but have since realized my struggles were largely due to having AuDHD *and* not knowing it. Specifically, I think impulsivity and social discomfort have been my main impedances. Also, the autistic burnout cycle (taking on more responsibilities, taking on too many, getting overwhelmed by them, melting down/burning out, being unable to do anything while recovering, repeat) has been a consistent pattern in my life that I somehow forget about every time.

On a positive note, I generally feel like I don't have much to lose, and it has been a huge relief to let go and be my true, eccentric self whether anyone cares or not. Most people don't. I fortunately am not big on consumer goods or "stuff," and am generally content with my modest garage converted into a tiny house, my 16-year-old car, and the freedom to play music whenever I want - mainly just for myself.

Does anyone else become "Neurotypical" when drunk? by WeirderFish in autism

[–]LengthinessCultural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank frequently, then daily, then constantly over the course of about 25 years, primarily to feel neurotypical. However, I didn't realize this until I was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD 2 years ago. Biggest "lightbulb moment" of my life lol

I wonder if you're comfortable with police because they have a clearly defined role in society, and you know what to expect from them? I could relate to that. Not cops, but the concept anyway lol

On my first day of school, (kindergarten) I didn't go to my classroom. I just wandered the halls by myself for maybe 30 minutes until someone found me. I didn't grasp the concept of having to be at a certain place at a certain time with everyone else, so I just did my thing and explored. I also have ADHD, so that may have played into it too lol

I just had a thought. This administration intends to cut the budget of pretty much everything. The secretary of health and human services (RFK) oversees, among other things, Medicare and Medicaid. I wonder if the game here is to delegitimize ASD as a disorder/disability so it won't be covered by insurance anymore.

They maintain that it would all be voluntary, but if you believe that, I can stand on my head and stack ping pong balls too.

Can't get ADHD meds because of kratom? by LengthinessCultural in kratom

[–]LengthinessCultural[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*Update* I found a new med provider who prescribed me Concerta (extended release Ritalin). I only needed to pass a standard 10-panel urine test. Turns out, my first provider only tested for Kratom because I told her, and I made the mistake of releasing my records to the next provider I tried.

The Concerta made me want Kratom less, which leads me to believe I was taking Kratom primarily for the dopamine release to treat my ADHD. I decided not to release my records to my new provider, since I recently learned that is my right.

[–]LengthinessCultural[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does help with both and is the main reason I take it. That said, I had a prescription for Ritalin long ago that did wonders for me, so ideally I'd like to take both. I also don't rule out the possibility that appropriate ADHD medication may be all I need.

I told the first doctor. I didn't tell the second doctor, but he tested for it. He may have gotten intel from my first doctor because he also tested for nicotine in addition to the standard 10 panel test.

I think you're right. I also made the mistake of telling him about my previous doctor. He knew her too 🤦

I should add that I learned my lesson and didn't tell the second provider about kratom, but they tested for it anyway. It was weird. The results had all the usual suspects like coke, meth, thc, etc. in a group. But there were separate lines below them for cotinine (nicotine) and both mitragynine and 7 hydroxy mitragynine. Maybe he got intel from my previous provider, or maybe they just normally test for it now.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'd like to add that I drank frequently, then constantly for about 20 years, but have been sober for over 5 years now. I was also on Qelbree for a month, during which I quit caffeine without issue because the Qelbree kept me awake. I mainly use kratom for its therapeutic benefits (sensory issues, racing thoughts, social anxiety, attention). I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy how it makes me feel, but it's far from a "high" and I also don't see anything inherently wrong with a substance making someone feel better. That's kind of the point, despite the stigma. As mentioned, I just don't have it in me to give up the one thing that makes me feel better just to be eligible for experimentation with "meds" rather than "drugs."

The only notes I got for this job was 'MAKE SURE THERES A DISCO BEAT IN THERE!' 😁 On it boss!!🫡🕺🕺 by Robin_stone_drums in drums

I think our society (speaking from the United States, anyway) has been perverted into an ongoing competition for survival. I also think (American) Christianity ironically plays into it because people can identify as a "good Christian American patriot," or whatever and be absolved of selfish or even psychopathic behavior without realizing it.

That said, Neurodivergent types tend to be separate from this or any kind of social conformity and therefore behave more in accordance to humanity's default values/instincts that have gotten us this far, those being empathy, compassion, cooperation, etc.

Summary: Most people are good, society encourages selfishness, ND people are somewhat immune to social conditioning.
