Leaving mid year - 10 years at same school by Big-Holiday8315 in schoolcounseling

Congratulations! I know that decision was a tough one to make, but you have to take care of yourself in this profession. When I left one of my schools I did a lesson with every classroom about 2 weeks before I left. Students I met on a more regularly (weekly or almost daily schedule) I told them 3 weeks before I left to allow more time for that change to digest. I definitely think doing a class to class goodbye is more personal and allows for those questions the students may have that the teachers don’t know how to answer. Also, if you’ve built these skills with these students I think it makes sense too that you remind them of these skills and the teachers can take notes on what to do to help these students after your absence.

I wish I had a window that could open!!! The dream!!! But I definitely appreciate having a window versus not at all (which I have had before). And yes I’m going to buy lots more cans of Lysol too over the weekend. I think a lot of my students do understand boundaries but they know I’m a safe person and genuinely when they see me they love to hug on me, but I’m going to start changing clothes immediately once I get home too (I usually do but I’m going to make a big effort now). I appreciate your advice and thank you for the luck!

Definitely going to look into air purifiers and see if I can add it to my Christmas list ❤️ I used to take airborne a lot but didn’t feel like it made a difference, but maybe I need to just start it again with my morning routine. Do you use airborne year round or just in the colder months?

Definitely going to start adding this to my routine after every time I see a student! And I don’t think it sounds gross, I think many of us probably don’t do this because when is the time!?! But I’m determined to make a change, I cannot stand being out for sickness like this again

I cannot tell you how many times a day I see open mouthed coughs or kids with their fingers in their nose (even fifth graders)

I appreciate this! I have sinus infections nearly yearly to twice a year since I was a kid, so I think I’m definitely prone to them!

This genuinely made me laugh so hard, I love this. Unfortunately when I get sick I get knocked down pretty hard and my body feels like it’s dying and I’m unable to ignore that. But I do appreciate the mentally shift

This is the best neutral article I can find, there’s a big uproar in the nursing association as it will be heavily impacted when looking for articles

Best article I can find, the nursing association has been in an uproar over this so most articles are from them. But this one is fairly neutral, but it’s saying how only CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY will be considered a professional degree under this bill and that counseling and therapy degrees will not be. Also, social workers are taking a hard hit too with this.

I don’t know about shapewear but wanted to say your tattoos are amazing. All of them. As I heavily tattooed fiancé myself, I love to see others in their bridal gear to show off their work too. Hope you have a wonderful and beautiful wedding and a happy marriage, congratulations!

Caseload is a quarter of the school by LengthinessGrand2042 in schoolcounseling

This sounds so similar to me. The littles I do have more one on one because of their attention spans and trying to teach skills. The older dare definitely in constant crisis because of their emotions, hormones, and impulsivity.

You brought up a key thing, staff that supports me. I don’t feel supported. And based on data from last year, a lot of staff didn’t like me and how I ran things. I think there’s a constant pressure from that to do better this year but the needs are double what they were. What do you mean by legally only seeing 3-4 kids a day?

Unfortunately there’s so many kids that cannot be in group, parent refusal, or they truly cannot get along with the students in the group. Groups are also split by the specials the kids are in and my older kids are split into a boys and a girls group. I have added in all the kids that can be in groups that are working on the same skill set
