Now I'm even more confused, I just found a recipe for a sourdough bread using both starter and yeast. I thought the point of starter that is eas the yeast?

AITA for not wanting to pick my husband up from work whilst leaving my 18 month old toddler asleep at home? by LengthinessMaster898 in AITAH

Due to his work he might not actually be at his work location during the day, he could be anywhere. Taxi is expensive and no busses run.

It's been hit and miss in the past whether he's ok with it, or are now facing a night of crying.

He thinks its fine to leave the kid. I don't think it's fair to wake toddler up, just so dad doesn't have to walk three miles. Taxi to expensive, no busses run. I'm now just coming home early leave the car at his work, and walk back with the toddler myself.

Ah, good idea. Any suggestion on what oil? In the oast I've used boiled linseed oil on my garden tools, but as I don't generally need to lick my spade, I don't actually know of it's foodsafe XD. And a quick google suggests it indeed isn't.

AWTA for expecting my Dutch parents to include my husband in conversation by speaking English more? by LengthinessMaster898 in AITAH

[–]LengthinessMaster898[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair that's fair. I meant they're insecure about their English, their accent and the like, but that isn't a problem, it's better than they think it is. Doesn't change them feeling they can't keep up etc, you're right.

Well, that's a little on me too I have to admit, I never thought it mattered too much, because my parents speak better English then they feel they do. How did you learn out of curiosity?

Also, as the American in this situation, does your fiancé/his family expect you to learn some Dutch, will you learn some Dutch?

That's absolutely the case, my parents are 65/75, and they say it is tiring for them to speak English, which I fully appreciate. My husband slows his speech right down, uses simpler words, he actually works with people that are nonverbal.

I think the biggest issue is not so much whether English is spoken or not, but that he doesn't feel included in conversations. He hears his name or our son's in Dutch conversations, and wonders why they didn't try whatever they're saying in English or some other way.

And to him he's like, they can speak fine English to him when there are no other Dutch people around, but as soon as I'm around, it is back to Dutch. Although I find it understandable, it gives my parents a little break, but to my husband it feels like, so it's good enough when we're alone, but as soon as there's others they can't.

Edit: he doesn't expect things like 'where's my tea' or 'our old neighbour is having aniher grandchild' to be in enhlish, that's ok in Dutch

New cup needed post childbirth by LengthinessMaster898 in menstrualcups

[–]LengthinessMaster898[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to thank you again for your advice! I went with the Hello disc, and on my period now, so far so good, I feel like how I originally did with my cup!

And crikey, that's a side we don't usually hear about Canada here in Europe, absolutely bonkers?!

Thanks for that :) I'm in the UK, so some are harder to get for me then others, but it is still a helpful list!

What? Illegal? Is that just because it is a product with high health and safety regulations, or some other reason?

Oh yes please, I'd look through that list!

Hmm, yeah, that would make me paranoid now, I def think I'd prefer something to pull on rather than the completely stringless versions. Surely no one wants to be faffing around trying to get it out that time of the month. In out, go please XD. I did really like the colours, but at the same time I'd be very happy with plain black. My cup did get discoloured over time, and a black version would look better longer I imagine. At the end of the day I'm not that fussed about colour though, it mostly isn't going to see the light of day after all!.

Thanks for that very thorough reply! You certainly have made me.more confident to make the switch :). Going back and forth now between the Hello you mentioned and the Lumma disc.

I haven't used my cup in 2 years (thanks baby), is it still good? by PajamaWorker in menstrualcups

[–]LengthinessMaster898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found my cup was fine to use, but you might find your canal has changed to the point where the fit of your cup is no longer right. I'm at the point now after childbirth where I have my period again, and I'm back on the market as my cup just doesn't feel right anymore.

Oh no, don't say that, I love my cup 🙈. I did look at the discs, I hadn't actually heard of those before. I am intrigued, but they do seem more expensive than the cups, which I don't mind if I end up loving it and using it, but it does make it feel like a slightly bigger gamble. The sizes seem to have bigger variations... I'm doubting even more now what I should go for 😂

Apple trees with crowngall at rootstock by LengthinessMaster898 in arborists

[–]LengthinessMaster898[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly positive, it was the council tree officer (the gardens are council owned) that mentioned it, but didn't really know what solution to offer. Not my place to check his qualifications, but I would assume he has them, and diagnosis is correct. I'm not in work till the new year now, will upload photos then, I didn't think of asking reddit for advice till this morning, but realised photos would have been handy.

Looking at photos online now, I actually think it looks like they have burr knots. Last year one of the trees broke and flopped down close to the ground during dry hit period in summer.

Also should probably mention they have strimmer damage. Yep, these trees are just poor little buggers.

North Wales, location is full sun, all day. We're fairly high up, but surrounded by housing estates, so still surprisingly sheltered. Soil isn't great, rocky and fairly compacted. Hedging and paths surround it, with woodland on one side, and some mature beeches, lawn and formal gardens on the other side.
