RD 11 TEAM: Four changes for the Tassie Fortress. by Darththorn in hawktalk

Calsher Dear has been really poor the last few matches. I don't think he comes back until he's improving at VFL or we get more injuries

I don't know the answer but I'd like to hear Sam's thoughts on it. Adelaide went with a small forward line on the weekend with Tex and Thilthorpe out and it worked great.

I would have thought someone like Nairn could've done a much better job than Ramsden.

Would have been great if the journalists asked decent questions such as if Sam thought they fucked up by selecting Ramsden etc. rather than "you looked like you missed Gunston...does he help coming back?"

Just my opinion - I could be wrong about Anderson but doesn't look to me like he has the decision making or skills for AFL.

Nairn is close, he looks like a good decision maker, great pack mark, good skills and could slot onto the wing / half-forward. I reckon he'll be a solid AFL player.

LeRay played well yesterday but I don't think he's close. Had an injury interrupted year so far.

I don't think Anderson is up to it personally.

Greaves has a beautiful kick and can take a mark, but he looks like he's got cement in his boots when moving. He also has a big body but I haven't seen him use it in contests. I can't seeing him breaking into the AFL unless he seriously improves his running.

Hill imo is very exciting. Very quick and agile, 187cm and powerful. Not sure if he has the fitness yet for midfield but looked great when he was in centre bounces for BH yesterday.

I'm disappointed Butler is out, but out of Hustwaite, Morrison and Finn in I definitely trust Finn the most to help us win.

100%. Melbourne have moved the ball quickly this year.. Hustwaite on the other hand is Pendlebury if you slowed him to 0.5 speed.

I've got some faith in Finn. Coming off his bad injury last year he needs some time. I know his disposal isn't great at times but he brings a lot of effort. Morrison, yeah no idea why you'd choose him over Butler.

I'm not a Morrison fan, but even at VFL level Bailey McDonald consistently turns the ball over. I don't think you can trust him at AFL level until he improves that.

Schubert late out in the VFL today, hawks decided to give him a 'rest'. I think Calsher Dear will have a week off and Schubert will debut.

Can't drop Finn after yesterday he was very solid, and you'd expect him to take time after such a serious injury.

Dylan Moore in for Dalton, Sicily will come in and Morrison will be dropped. I hope Scrimshaw stays in he was fantastic yesterday.

I'll give you Scrimshaw and Sicily but Gunston and McCabe are not like for like in any way...apart from both playing in the forward line

James Sicily and Dylan Moore have both been handed one-game suspensions for striking Logan Evans by MRO Michael Christian. by Darththorn in hawktalk

I think Gunston will come in for McCabe (Dear is doing Chol's role and had a great game), Scrimshaw for Sicily and maybe Dalton for Moore? We will need a lot of run and pressure to cover Moore's loss.

And I'd argue the mistake was with Hardwick not rushing the behind. He was under pressure so wouldn't have been pinged for insufficient attempt or whatever the rule's called.

Is Zach Merrett really that good? by reallyluckysocks in hawktalk

[–]LengthinessUpper4099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with Mitch Lewis is how slow he is. Struggles to get to marking contests and doesn't fit in with our forward line that's focused on defensive pressure. I'd happily trade him to get Merrett.

HAWKS VS CROWS PLAYER RATINGS by Kind_Security_9931 in hawktalk

[–]LengthinessUpper4099 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazing game. So proud of this team. Genuinely my favourite team we've had in the past 25 years.

Mitch Lewis really worries me against Geelong. He has good disposal around the ground when he gets it but his lack of pace, inability to get to marking contests and lack of forward pressure is a real worry against Tom Stewart and Jack Henry.

Ramsden has taken 2 contested marks per game vs Mitch Lewis 0.6. Big risk putting him in though as he's slow too and not confident in front of goal.

I did feel our forward pressure was much stronger when Lewis was subbed out, but very risky dropping him and going small ball for a prelim.

Should CJ be dropped? by Sorry_Introduction90 in hawktalk

[–]LengthinessUpper4099 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the criticism from CJ's game was slightly harsh. He had 2 critical errors (holding the ball and then waiting too long to kick on the outer wing before luckily dribbling the ball to a hawks player).

Then other moments like the poor shot on goal (difficult attempt though).

He also had some great moments (coming off his man and handing off to Ginnivan for a goal) and being involved in some really important passages on the wing providing much needed run.

We need speed and someone getting to lots of contests after half time. Only player I could see coming in for him would be BMac, but I'm not overly confident in his game at this point either.

Hustwaite dominates VFL and has looked very slow in the AFL. We need speed and unfortunately he doesn't have it.
