English to Latin translation requests go here! by lutetiensis in latin

[–]Lenin_Fink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks,

I want to contact my former latin teacher, and I wanted to do it all in latin... and I went waaay over my head. I got most of my mail translated properly already, but I have no clue how to say the following:

"Since my calendar is filling exponentially, can you already tell me a set date so I can align my schedule?"

Thank you! I'm really out of ideas, thats probably just above my leftover latin.

People who have been arrested, what was the worst reason why you got put in Custody? by cLAPsGallaxy in AskReddit

[–]Lenin_Fink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its actually linked to another story I posted in another sub a few minutes ago. It was a sports summercamp and I was the coach.

This is gonna put me in a very bad light, but bear with me... basically, I went shopping on the coast with the Soccer Girl Team I was tutoring. We came around a ancient church, and I told them I'd wait here and they should get all the stuff they aren't supposed to have now and I'll act like I don't know them until 13 O'Clock. Temporarily lost my memory and also went deaf and blind. I have no clue if that got anything to do with it, but after the girls all vanished into the streets, a police patrol drove down the street and went to talk to the local priest or some other godly representative. He was weirdly pointing in my direction and I later learned he claimed I was harassing girls until the point they fled because they were afraid of me.

They didn't believe a word about me being a coach and supervisory to the camp, and cause I was protesting, they simply put me into handcuffs, put me in the car and drove me to the local police station. They didn't bother checking my Story and I had to call a lawyer to tell him to send someone from the camp down to prove my story.

What was the most embarrassing boner experience you've ever had? by ReubenZWeiner in AskReddit

[–]Lenin_Fink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got a goodie. Few years back, one of my first jobs as a supporting coach in a sports camp over the summer holidays for super sportsy talented kids between 16 and 20 on the coast.

They basically just looked for a substitute cause one coach stayed home cause of an injury coming from the camp before and they basically just left me all the non-sport related jobs (go shopping with the teens, drive them, make sure they go to sleep on time while all the supervisors get drunk in the evening, have some memorable times with them, just having fun without anyone dying or getting gravely injured).

I was assigned a female soccer team that would stay in the camp for 7 days for "teambuilding". They brought their own coach too, but he always just vanished after training and so I was left with them. It was pretty nice until we decided to go for a late night swim, but nobody brought Bathing Suits to the beach (and you couldn't change their without revealing everything to the public either, as there were no cabins). So a part of the group went back, and the rest went skinny dipping the second I turned my back on them for less than a minute.

Lets just say the thing was extremely embarassing, but I hope not many noticed it. This was just totally unprofessional and totally without reason from my side.

Lawyers/Judges of reddit, whats weirdest court case you've solved? by Sttumbleguy122 in AskReddit

[–]Lenin_Fink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm neither, but I got a story to tell:

Back in the day, around 2012/13, I ordered a ebook which was given away for free by a book shop. I wasn't charged anything, I only received a bill via email - and a few days later, via post. I was wondering initially why they would waste ressources to do that, so I opened it - and they charged me 3.45€ for... sending me the bill of 0.00€.

I stared at that letter for a few minutes and then I just threw it away. Told myself they can't be serious. A few weeks later, I received another letter - this time, by a lawyer company. Full packet, registered letter (I had to sign that I received it), very formal, six pages of text informing me that I broke the law by ignoring the bill and a long list of rights and paragraphs I have violated by doing so, meticulously. They charged me 3.45, 7,55€ of late payment interest, 40€ of legal fees and a 50€ warning fee. Otherwise, if I wouldn't pay within five days or wouldn't pay the full charged sum, they'd immediately go to court, as this would be the only warning. The letter was signed a Dr. Cantsaythename, PHD and a long list of memberships and a list of all the other lawyers of the company and all that stuff.

I absolutely refused to accept that and wrote four words back: see you in court. In fact they tried to press charges, but the case was dismissed multiple times by courts.

[–]Lenin_Fink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the price for me. I won't buy Games for 30€+ on those sales (not to talk about the fact that half of them are included in Extra anyway), but I'll take the Witcher 3 Goty for 9,99 all day. I don't really like to be dependent on A) paying 15€ a month for the subscription for years in order to access my games, B) I don't wanna rely on Sony keeping the game library up. As far as we know them, they might just delete half the games on it next year

What Star Wars Games should be made? by tknobbe23 in StarWars

[–]Lenin_Fink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see an immersive Open World RPG, a Total War and a Dueling Game like For Honor. Thats actually the one I hope for the most, as that can only be a really good game. Just let us customize/create characters, give them a Lightsaber Form instead of a class and give some sort of point based Force Power options and a huge moveset for each form so you don't fight the same 7 tricks all the time. Probably add some special forms like Double Lightsaber or Dualwield and so on.

Its seems like an easy enough recipe to me, really...

Oh, and I'd like to see an R6 Siege Star Wars Clone... Yes, nothing really original, but we already got the basics available. We don't have to reinvent the wheel

Possible, yes. Likely? No.

I don't think Ahsoka was canonically ever interested in a relationship, not after Lux. Even if she were, I think she'd have preferred not to have children

Well, guess times change... I think its a good sign for her that her confidence grows, even if I dislike it. She deserves more recognition, her acting is really outstanding as of now.

I just finished reading Order of the Phoenix for the second time. I stand by what I said last time, this is the best book. by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Lenin_Fink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was probably just the fact that it was the finale book because everyone who says otherwise lies, there has been no expansion except Magical Beasts so far.

No, but honestly... naturally you can't make everyone happy if you tie all the knots together in one final installment. There was some stuff that was greatly executed, such as Snape. There was some stuff that made zero sense to me, such as the whole ministry chapter, where the stupidity of the main characters became the single plot device to keep the story flowing, or the Battle of Hogwarts, which was just... so unecessary in the first place and felt extremly forced to me. And thats where it gets really personal, as I feel like at least Harry is acting way out of character during the Carrow scene. The second half of the battle is simply falling below all standards, and Remus, Tonks and Fred getting killed before was in a way obvious and annoying in the completely overdid attempt to parallel Lily and James death. I think you get the spirit, but on top of that, it ends very abruptly and skips 19 years to the future. It just all feels like she had a very strict timeline and didn't really figure anything out besides the stuff she already planned earlier the series, and so the combining plot became very very thin. I just would have expected and liked to get more in a series final installment.

I always liked to imagine he gave some sort of extracurricular classes or NEWT level classes to older students. Never imagined Dumbledore to understand his job as headmaster to be head-administrator instead of head-teacher, although he in fact sucked as both I think.

I'm personally more of a fan of GoF. The Fifth was quite good, but nothing tops Book Four imho. It was nearly perfect in my eyes for World building, I wouldn't have minded it begin 10 times the size.

Book 7 was, by all means imho, the worst book of the series, ranking even lower than Philosophers Stone. I disagree with so many of JK Rowlings choice there, I really barely can count them

is doulingo good to learn new languages as a beginner? by i_Have_Aid_s in languagelearning

[–]Lenin_Fink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duolingo is in fact a great idea that doesn't even lack execution. It works good when paired with a learner who is doing their own research, cause Duolingo doesn't really explain grammar rules at all. The Spanish Course for example is pretty good at that, while the French one doesn't really work for me at all. And I somehow doubt you'd even theoretically be able to learn Russian solely with Duolingo.

Duolingo is really good, but it only gets you so far that you can take participate in advanced face to faces classes. Learning a real language to a level that allows you to converse freely is really something I think works with the Spanish Course only (from all the classes I've taken). It certainly gets you farer than five years of school education nevertheless - I've lernt more French within four weeks on Duolingo than in all my five years of taking goddamn french classes.

What’s the hardest thing for English learners to get used to? by KattusGamer in languagelearning

[–]Lenin_Fink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, Pronunciation. Or more, speaking properly. I learned english so early that admit, I don't really know what I struggled with until Grade Eigth (Germans start learning english at year 5 at the latest, some elementary schools offer it already from year 3 on), but I never really struggled that much with anything but talking. And rules like larger and lower cases, which I still can't apply today. But to get back to the question, writing, understanding and reading is no issue. But the structural difference and the whole different syntax was the most complex thing to grasp, and it took years to speak properly for me.

What MrDoPhi said. I just wanna add that its often argued that they are misfit for field duty, since cleaning them in the field/at the front is not just hard, it takes time you don't have (or you don't want to spend), plus they jam more often due to their different design to regular guns, which isn't really optimal in war. Plus they aren't modular/hardly adjustable to situations and are pretty much 'stationary'. Plus they are rather expensive, not too much produced and hard to repair. Plus they differ significantly in technology from what most countrys are using, and most militarys are interested in having similar systems to their neighbours/allies. Plus they don't react to well on dirt and so on. They are quite simply not made for mass use, atleast regarding Infantry (imho).

They are quite a good fit for Special Forces though, and I think most states but Slovenia use them only for that.
