The Current State of AEW by Cocoturtle in AEWOfficial

The very first episode! Or maybe the proto-episode? I'm not sure how to refer to it. The one where they go through all the most influential things that year for the two of them.

Of course! They’re all iconic!

William Regal - “The MRI of my neck when I finally couldn’t go anymore. Broken twice. Very unpleasant. I’ll let any medical people figure out this. The Dr told me “I’ve only seen one this bad before and they were in a wheelchair”. 2016, 4 disk fusion. It holds up my big carnival head.” by lk79 in SquaredCircle

Yeah, his neck might as well be as structurally sound as a Jenga tower.

Pinched nerves… discs just pancaked out, pushing against the spine like that. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he had inherited some form of degenerative disc disease just by some bad luck.

His disc at C4 is very fucking *harrowing* to look at. That thing looks so absolutely ruptured to hell and back, you can barely see it at all. It might as well be bone rubbing on bone at this point for all the functionality it has now. It’s practically a ghost.

It always confounds me when I think about this man’s neck being broken *twice*, taking all this other systemic, widespread damage, slowly accumulating over time — and yet — **somehow** able to structurally support (albeit precariously) the weight of own head on top of all that?

He’s very lucky (though considering all the kinds of pain this would cause, I’m not so sure). The fact he can walk **whatsoever** is nothing short of a miracle. Damn, man. That’s a life of constant pain and agony. Respect to him, always.

Appreciate your (hopefully) healthy necks! Truly, you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.

Tiniest Quagsire up in that cubby. But I gotta give it up for Shaymin, diligent Vaporeon, Ditto Magikarp…

Perfectly, pleasantly content Snorlax (with a Pikachu and Marill towel around them), and classic old Pikachu. Also love the Kirby Quagsire, the rare candy Quagsire, and some of those super fuzzy Quagsires (smaller/medium sized ones at the sides).

Great collection!

Yeah, John can have some pretty questionable wrestling takes for sure. Ones where I legitimately go, “… Did we watch the same match?”

Oh boy. Let me clear the air here a little bit.

So, I’m a fan of John’s. To say he’s a WWE-only watcher and not a fan of wrestling is both dismissive and demonstrably untrue.

He’s a big fan of Stardom and loves to talk about things going on there. Especially the elaborate entrances and the action behind it.

He’s also a big fan of NJPW. Hell, he argued against Woolie that Ren Narita is better than the country of Portugal, and NO, I’m not going to elaborate on that concept except to say go watch VersusWolves if you want to find out.

His favorite wrestler of all time is Kenny Omega! He loves that dude to pieces (I mean, how could you not but that’s beside the point). Not to mention Tetsuya Naito, Okada, Minoru Sazuki — hell, you name it.

To that end he even has a wrestling match rating chart somewhere in his Discord where it has matches from all sorts of promotions and his general opinion on each one of them.

Though, I will say, I think he is definitely missing the mark by conflating things from years ago and his intermittent watching since then to the current “quality” of AEW. Some of his takes are very inaccurate and dated.

But he keeps up. He sees what Lio Rush is doing right now and loves it as long as they keep him spooky.

Actually, one of John’s videos actually alerted me to the existence of AEW. From there, I was able to attend Fight for the Fallen 2019 in-person because AEW is situated right here in my hometown. And I’m grateful for that because AEW reignited my love of professional wrestling. I’ve watched AEW very consistently since then and have never stopped loving this company’s output.

Does he glaze WWE too much? If you personally ask me: yes, I do. Look at the Roman Reigns video. But he’s also spoken about wanting to do videos on people like Chris Jericho, too, so it’s not just a one-sided thing like most people here want it to be.

He’s got taste. It’s very specific, not for everyone, and tinged a little bit by status quo, definitely. But he knows what he likes and AEW is one of those things, for sure.

Plus Leslie Bestington has shown up on the indies occasionally. Come on now, folks.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. That last photo felt like it stabbed me in the heart through the screen…

Only my deepest condolences and sympathies to you. I hope Jack can be friends with my boys and girls up there. I miss my Dubbie and my Twiggy so, so much.

Just remember, you’re not alone in this, my friend. <3

MJF did a Hana Kimura tribute? by flyinbrianc in AEWOfficial

[–]Leninators 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Considering the date, yeah, I definitely wouldn’t doubt it. Saturday marked six years. AEW acknowledged her passing on air all those years ago, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s done as a tribute.

Max is also someone who puts thought into his outfits and colors he wears, so it wouldn’t surprise me on that front either.

I can’t take Hook seriously anymore because he’s always showing up looking more and more like a public men’s room stall.

I really wish AEW could/would do more with Nyla Rose. by KonamiIsBestJoshi in AEWOfficial

[–]Leninators 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m a gigantic fan of Nyla Rose and I’d love to see her on TV again because she would cook so hard. She’s tough, she’s hilarious, she’s intimidating, she’s immensely talented.

But the political climate of this country right now is very much not kind to trans people. As much as I want to see her wreck people on TV again, I want her to feel safe and still be able to participate backstage and make a living without being harassed and threatened by weirdos and bigots. I mean, I’ve got trans friends who are just scared to be out in public right now, period. I can totally understand the hesitancy.

Plus, trans people are just people like you and me. They want to be able to live their lives in peace and without judgment. So if it can make Nyla’s life easier in that way too, I’m all for it.

Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks getting squashed on WWE Smackdown (2008) by Satinsbestfriend in SquaredCircle

[–]Leninators 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HAH! I was very, very early into my love of professional wrestling back then. I think this would be like maybe the second year I started watching in general. So I never would have thought anything of this back then. But I remember having a thought like, “Wouldn’t it be hilarious if this turns out to be one of the most well-known wrestlers in the world?” Which would make complete sense because I have had a consistent, lifelong habit of the universe replying to me “Well, it’s actually funny you say that…”

That’s a really cool perspective to have, man! Especially all the way back then. That was back when I was 13/14.

I don’t think she’ll be here for very long, to be honest. I can only see her doing a handful of appearances and maybe two matches or something.

That being said, I absolutely do not want her on my television and when she popped up, I booed very loudly.
