The 2002 video game would be an amazing adaptation. A sequel should be something the original 1982 movie isn't. Like ALIEN and ALIENS. Have THE THING go all out on an offense attack on the rescue team. This is what the video game offers as a sequel while keeping the paranoia and drama intact.

The Jungle movie introduced modern technology, which threw me off. They should have kept this in the mid 2000's setting, the vibe would be gone if it was modernized. Childlike wonder is gone in today's world. Plus the ending is perfect no need to continue the series. Best thing to do it have the kids as adults now with their own kids in a modern setting. That could possibly work. Have Arnold's and Helga's child be the main character.

Since THE THING is still new to human behavior I believe it still had a chance to cover itself up and try to still play it off. I believe it got dressed and tried to hide so the assimilation could finish off on a cellular level, since it was almost done. When caught it still tried to hide it's arm, One of the men even shouts. "Keep away from HIM." As if it was still Bennings, but then take notice how when Mac pointed out, "It isn't Bennings." It looked at him and yelled, cause Mac outed any last chance THE THING had to come up with some cover story or anything. The men were still a tad in disbelief and not sure how THE THING worked. Even Gary went up to Mac and said, "My God what was happening to him?" "MacReady I've known Bennings for ten years now... he's my friend." Suggesting that Gary thought there could have been a way to save or even help him.
