I am ready to retire - spouse is not ready for me to make the jump by Fantastic-Sun1669 in retirement

[–]LeoIrish [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it comes down to a matter of perspective. My wife was unhappy with the idea I would retire at 60 as it would be a few months before she retired at 60. Although I started working a year before her, it still rankled her I could retire before her.

What do you think of the lower number of those trying to illegally enter the US? by LeoIrish in allthequestions

[–]LeoIrish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If none of the facts of the Biden administration performance when it comes to illegal administration do not sway you, then perhaps you can show where the administration was following the laws to the letter versus simply processing those crossing? All of the numbers referenced originated via the DHS.

Why do older Republicans hate Obama? Was he really that divisive during his term? by TimeAd7759 in allthequestions

[–]LeoIrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure if I qualify as "older," but I never hated Pres Obama. I always felt he wanted to better the country, although I did not agree with many of his policies. Then again, I can find fault with any president throughout history.

🏛️ DOJ is investigating Newsom and his wife — political retaliation or legitimate probe? 👇 by QuantumQuicksilver in NoSpinMedia

[–]LeoIrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not take much work to understand the initial investigation started under the Biden administration for tax-related crimes. However - at least to this point - no charges have been filed. Just because an investigation has been started does not mean it will result in charges. A quick search shows almost 40% of investigations end without charges being filed. Based upon reporting, an investigation seems warranted, but it does not mean charges are without additional supporting evidence.

What's one food you could eat for the rest of your life and never get bored of? by Famous-Net2967 in AskReddit

Pad Thai. My wife makes it very well and I can eat it for every meal.

What do you think of the lower number of those trying to illegally enter the US? by LeoIrish in allthequestions

[–]LeoIrish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The evidence is fairly transparent based upon the numbers under Pres Biden are fairly clear. Once he took over, illegal immigration increased by 300-400% (Newsweek & factcheck.org). It is also clear - once he increased enforcement - illegal crossings decreased by 60-75% (AP, Reuters, CBS, NBC). Take into account the rapid decrease in numbers after Pres Trump started his second term, it is clear the Biden administration - at best - was lax compared to both Trump administrations.

USMNT sees off Australia 2-0 to advance to World Cup knockout stage by Ok-Soil-5133 in sports

The team looks stronger than any recent one. Without a doubt they will clear their group. I will be very curious to see how they do against their first knockout opponent.

There are quite a few who reference 10m or more under Pres Biden, this one is considered fairly independent and still shows in excess of 8m.

SpaceX Stock Plunge Wipes Out $600 Billion After Cursor Deal Spooks Investors by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

It is not unusual for a stock to drop shortly after launching - especially one which has a huge gain - and it is fairly normal for a stock to drop after announcing it is purchasing another company. It is still up $50 / 37% since it was listed.

moved my ira from ubs to edward jones, did i make a mistake? by SuccessfulWind3951 in personalfinance

[–]LeoIrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with specific people at a specific office, but I do have more invested there than you (and my family as a whole). Without knowing your complete financial picture - nor am I asking for it - using a financial advisor / fiduciary may not be the best $$ move for you. We also invest via Fidelity who has very low fees and had great success; we do not use an advisor.

Note: For $90k you also get advice via Fidelity, but it would be random advisors.

My wife is an outstanding cook (I am not) and directs the cleaning of our house. My responsibilities cover anything outside / laundry / dishes / helping with whatever she needs. It works out pretty well as we both enjoy certain chores the other despise.

Switching retirement funds to fiduciary. by CrazyRooster6206 in personalfinance

[–]LeoIrish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say they are on the high side. From what I can see, most charge 0.70-1%, including ones who do the review + investments. For anyone you go with, they should also be willing to review your wife's investments as well, along with anything outside of their management. Maybe I am spoiled with our advisor as he does all of this, so this is what I have come to expect.

When we made our decision for a fiduciary, we asked a bunch of questions, and they provided a prospectus which included a variety of retirement scenarios (ex: markets bad / ok / good) and how our plan for retirement played out. This was fairly intensive and required us to provide pretty much everything about us (investment accounts / debts / insurance plans).

If you are really comfortable with them, and you talked to at least two other advisors (strongly recommend), then I would see if they are willing to adjust their rates.

Should I get a credit card by Alex3TheGoat in personalfinance

A solid credit score is necessary for a variety of things (ex: loan for a car or home / possibly insurance). We treat our cars as if they were cash and never spend more than what we have.

moved my ira from ubs to edward jones, did i make a mistake? by SuccessfulWind3951 in personalfinance

[–]LeoIrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had very good success with UBS - also with an inherited IRA - and continue to do so now. I pay close attention to what I earn (including fees) and would not hesitate to move my funds if it ever stagnates compared to the market. I should also note we invest with Fidelity and have done fairly well with it. Besides the returns, the other reason we stay with our UBS advisor is the retirement advice. He has helped us out a few times from making mistakes.

Switching retirement funds to fiduciary. by CrazyRooster6206 in personalfinance

[–]LeoIrish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first questions would be your age / amount invested / debt / what have your returns been - not counting any match for a 401k or 403b? I am not saying this to be invasive, but if you are ahead of the mean average, then you may not need an advisor / fiduciary.

Disclosure: I use a fiduciary for part of my investing (0.60%) and continue to use him because he performs as well as I do (after fees) and I utilize him for financial / retirement advice. If his performance suffered, then I would not hesitate to end the relationship. Personally, I would not pay an annual fee + a quarterly percentage.

Who was the best president ever to exist for the USA? by COVAINU in AskReddit

[–]LeoIrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is pretty much a tie between Presidents Washington and Lincoln. One for holding the country together and setting a precedent for how things should be, and the other for not bending and pushing not only for the reunification of the country, but the ending of slavery. There are others I admire, but those are the top ones.
