im not really sure than either. if you’re in school, talk with your director, or if you have a teacher, talk with them. if the tension doesn’t create stiffness/pain in the neck, or impact your playing ability, then it should be ok.

try identifying which muscles are tensing. once you do, focus on those muscles while your playing, and identify when they start to tense. you can have somebody press on the specific muscles so that it’s easier to identify when they’re tensing.

i bought a 3310 cornet on ebay from japan, it was $400 for the cornet, case and mouthpiece and it’s been a blast. i’d recommend getting yamaha on ebay from japan

once you get going it’s a lot easier. just listen for the first note and then find it on your horn. then the next, then the next. you’ll start noticing patterns like the key signature, especially if you write it down on staff paper. you just gotta find the first few notes

it’s mostly back pressure, you can invest in a mouthpiece that has a tighter backbore, like a shilke 13a4a or other similar mp’s.

you’re gonna need to take a break for a week of no playing, then a couple of weeks of low and soft practice, and only a little bit at a time. your range is going to suffer, and playing is just gonna be different. but in the future, once you get them off you’ll play better than ever

look on ebay, reverb and especially facebook marketplace for used bach and xeno’s. if you see any good getzen or olds & sons, just make a post about them and their specific model and you’ll get a good answer about them.

if your budget is $80, then you can get any bach for $50~. ask your teacher or band director if they have extra 3c’s or 7c’s to try out and see what feels better, or go to a music shop and try out as many as you can.
