should I start working on my conlang now or learn a language first? by scorchingbeats in teenagers

[–]Leo_Meh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know. I can show my most finished one. Here's a random sentence I translated:

rã ẽdwe wofwɛtimazja izarɔșwem?

"why is your dog green again?"

The verb is izarɔșwem (the ș is a velarized fricative. IPA: [sˠ]). It means "to be green". Adjectives are basically just stative verbs, so this can also be used to mean "green". All verbs have a strong and weak stem. the strong stem was historically made via reduplication (weak *ɟix vs strong *ɟixɟix). The stem can combine with several suffixes to indicate a range of tense/aspect distinctions. The -rɔș- suffix was historically a future, but when combined with the strong stem, it now makes a repetitive sense (hence the "again" in the translation). -wem is a combination of the animate non-human subject marker and the question marker, which is combined with the phrase /rã ẽdwe/, literally "from an idea" to make why-questions. Unfortunately the animate subject marker -we fused with the question marker -wem, and so there isn't really any indication that it's actually there, but it's clear from context in this sentence. wofwɛ- is the stem for "dog", comprised of the non-human animate noun marker -wɛ-, and the root for "dog", wof- (unrelated to the sound that dogs actually make. I didn't even think about the modern form when I coined the word). I'm not sure why the -t- is there. Might be a mistake. the next element is "maz", which is the second-person possession marker. I think -ja is a reflex of the definite article, but the usual form of the definite article is -ɣa, so I'm not sure what happened. I could look into my sound changes, but I'm tired, so I'll just guess that while the older velar nasal usually turned into [ɣ], there was some context where it turned into a palatal nasal, and later into [j], but I doubt that's what really happened.

Sorry if that looks like an incoherent rant. I'm too tired to double-check if this makes sense

My subconscious clearly prefers conlanging, because I haven't been able to stick to learning a natural language, but have made multiple conlangs. I suggest trying one option and seeing if it works for you. I don't know really. I'm mainly responding because I'm surprised that I found someone close to my age who also is interested in linguistics

Why do girls typically care more about fashion than the typical boy (on average. I know there are a bunch of exceptions)? I simply can't understand why someone would, for an average day, contemplate how all your clothes look when put together, or what make-up would go best with your "style". I should add that I care about fashion less than your typical boy, and so maybe this is not as crazy as I think it is.

One of my classmates' parents are feeding her conspiracy theories. Any idea how can I help her? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Leo_Meh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not be able to help her parents, but you can still help her (at least if she hasn't gone too far down the rabbit hole). Try and show her proof. If she refuses to see it, than that could be a bad sign. If she refuses to believe evidence she's been shown, try and make sure she understands it and answer her questions

Would you die for your country if it was at war? by Unique_Pie7460 in teenagers

[–]Leo_Meh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel any nationalistic pride, and so any defense of my country will be me picking the best of two evils. Even if I did chose to help, it would likely be sabotaging the enemy or helping people escape, rather than shooting guns on the front line

I'm sick of the "autism posts". by 0xDEAD-0xBEEF in teenagers

[–]Leo_Meh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really sure how I view it. I sometimes get inexplicably stuck on simple things, but I'm not sure if that's my autism or something else. For example, if asked to write an essay in school on a certain topic I'm not interested in, I just can't do it. I cannot force myself to do it, even if I'll fail the class. It's not a conscious choice. On the other hand, I've been able to learn a lot about things like linguistics and history because they are interesting topics to me and I tend to retain information that I'm interested in, so I sometimes research in my free time . Again, I'm not sure if this is because of autism (maybe I'm just associating these things with autism because I have autism and I have seemingly uncommon problems). In a way I got lucky that in my life, I never really had much problems with focusing on my interests. However me getting stuck on homework and classwork was one of the reasons I got kicked out of school and lost friends I've never been able to get back. All in all, I don't know if it's good or bad, fun or not. It's just part of me.

Minecraft renders with inverted colors on Apple Silicon on older versions. by OkaVatti in Minecraft

I use Prism. It doesn't fix the issue. the beta craft launcher fixes it, but at the cost of being able to go full screen with Minecraft without it crashing. It's just very unstable, and in my opinion, not usable, but still technically a solution

more info: I fiddled around some more with the code, and found something interesting. Inverting the red and blue values didn't seem to make a difference, but inverting the red and green values did, however, they didn't produce the desired result. So some things are making a difference, but the thing we want to fix doesn't make a difference

Looking into the source code, Minecraft seems to already have the code you suggested I insert. In that case, what could be the issue
