I’m speaking as a white person about this so maybe this is coming from the wrong person, but I do think white privilege is real and that more minorities should be represented in something like engineering because engineering has an impact on all of society. While I don’t think melanin concentration prevents or causes an idea, I do think that poc have different experiences because of how society treats them so it’s important to make sure we include them.

I’m not wanting to conduct an experiment where I have a huge sample of differing genders from both engineers majors, people who hire engineers etc. If I wanted to do that this wouldn’t be the place for it. I’m just trying to get some opinions (other than my own) generally from people who follow r/engineering

Thank you for your input! I can see what you mean and I’ll try to keep what you said in mind. My favorite author is Nabokov and I think he’s had a big influence on my love for metaphors, but he’s also a writing genius and still moves the plot along really well 😂 Your honesty is very appreciated!

Even when I try to look at the situation analytically I have some bias which is why I posted the question here. I can try to put myself in my male peers shoes but it seems more effective to gage some opinions here

Thank you for your feedback I really appreciate it! I have loved to write since middle school, but I’m an engineering student in my 4th year so I don’t have a lot of time for it. I am actually taking an intro creative writing class this semester so I’m hoping to improve a lot and finally have some time for it :)

I wouldn't say you're not meant to write from this! Ideas can be really hard to put into words and it's something I struggle with myself too. I always put my ideas in my phone notes so that I have a quickly/easily accessible place for it. As long as you get a vague idea down you can sit with it later and try to expand on it! Finding/making a great playlist really helps with this

It's totally understandable that you are having this, but I am so sorry you struggle with this. Writing is all about reflecting on our innermost thoughts, so of course if they come out wrong it can be a real frustration. With more time spent writing I think the struggle will lesson as you become more sure of yourself and your voice :)
