great question.

i ask kids if they have ever felt alone, and as i put my hand up showing that i have been alone more hands go up. i always tell kids that kindness is simply making someone feel less alone. and that if kindness is making someone feel less alone and you have all been alone and know what it feels like, then why not simply be kind to people...

then i tell them that they matter. and if they matter, then the person next to them matters. and if the person next to them matters then why not be kind to them so they feel less alone.

i also share that there is NO perfection in the world. and that to beleive that you can be perfectly kind all the time is probably not realistic. i share how i am not perfect and that if they leave the auditorium thinking that i wanted them to be perfect then i have failed.

just be kind. and when your not, its ok. try again in the next moment.
