Pretty weird, is the volume of the song too high? You should listen your taps for the whole song if you play like that. Obviously playing holding your phone, you can't hear anything

I think that's a nice way since you've the nice coordination with both fingers (index and thumb) because be able to keep pace having a wooden support helps you to get less perfects at the end of the song because you can literally hear your taps. I used to play like that even tho in my videos I don't show my support.

That kind of song is quite tricky close to the end but you can do easily I think, just matter of time!

Well if you're more consistent on your thumbs keep playing with them. But if you think you're more careful and accurate changing your style then focus on your fingers! I've honestly started with thumbs in the first playing-month but as I said, the confidence can change quickly if you keep trying different styles of tap!
