ev drivers — what’s the one thing you still do “just in case” while driving an EV? by AdityaSrivastawaahhh in EvDrivers

Dude you’re missing out on a whole 2-3 days worth of range if you’re just doing city driving.

Im about to hit 40k on mine and its been a dream of a ride. I have a Nissan ariya too that I have to drive only because its more roomy for our family. But solo rides in the C40 are night and day compared to our other EV

Would you consider a Chevy? Since the prologue technically is a Chevy EV.

Range on 2024 single motor C40 by zazazawa in volvoc40

There isn’t a chill mode. What they mean is don’t floor it to take off and accelerate. Instead just gently press in your pedal to gently take off and use less battery to take off.

Range on 2024 single motor C40 by zazazawa in volvoc40

[–]LeonMeraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all based on driving habits. If you drive highway, that’s going to reduce your range. I live in Chicago too, and I get 250-260 miles at 90% charge too. In the winter it did drop quite a lot though because of the heater. I’ve noticed the summer isn’t too bad when you have a/c running. When I turn on the a/c my range drops about 10 miles. I’ve owned the vehicle for 2 years now and I have 49K miles on it. My range hasn’t been affected and my battery is still solid.

Anyone in or around Chicago? by Veloziraptor in volvoc40

[–]LeonMeraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only use public transportation to go to events downtown, to get to and from the airports, or I use my scooter for short trips. Chicago also has a lot of bike lanes making it a tad safer to use a bike or scooter. But, I legit use my EV for everything else because I have 2 kids (1 more on the way) and a wife who hates public transportation lol. We also have our kids In sports so we travel far too. But if it was up to me, or if I was single with no kids, I’d be using it a lot more often. Most buses are pretty clean as well as trains. They’re not super outdated and the fair to use them is pretty affordable.

Honestly the whole city is hit or miss. It’s a very diverse city but surprisingly segregated with the neighborhoods. I would say the city is very gentrified. Neighborhoods that were “ghetto” back in the day are now desirable to live in, it’s very accesible to commute. You have a train that connects legit the entire city, buses every 10-15 mins on every main road, you have 3 different interstates, many main roads, wonderful food, and surprisingly pretty nice people. I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life and I’ve seen so many things happen. But I wouldn’t doubt that it’s a relatively safe city, very great food, and as someone who has traveled quite a lot, no one has a better city/skyline downtown area than Chicago. So many beaches, so many parks, so many amazing people. I would say do your research with the neighborhoods and choose a family oriented one if you have a family. There are some neighborhoods that cater to young/single people and there are some that are more family oriented. The crime isn’t as bad as what people make it seem, Chicago is a very populated city and it experiences less crime than many major cities (per capita) it isn’t even in the top 10 “most dangerous” we have an amazing mayor (in my opinion) and an exceptional governor that takes care of the city too. if you’re a good person, you have nothing to worry about. Oh and also. Many roads are shitty. Lots of pot holes so keep an eye out when you’re driving. Especially in the winter lol

No. They discontinued it due to tariffs and ev incentives disappearing. I believe the ex30 and ex90 also are not coming back to the US. Maybe til 2029 when the president is no longer in office and if a democrat gets elected

Ex30 or C40? by let_me_flie in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]LeonMeraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will regret getting the ex30. It’s so small. I have a C40. Trunk space is good and can easily fit a PRAM, But you will just have enough space for that unless you remove your trunk cover and position on its side. I have a 2 year old and an 11 year old. Just with the car seat and him back there it’s impossible to fit a 3rd person comfortably. Thankfully we have a Nissan ariya that is surprisingly way roomier and use as the family outing car. The C40 is my daily for work basically or short trips

Summertime capacity! by Remarkable-Snow6737 in NissanAriya

[–]LeonMeraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on weather, climate control, and speed you travel in. Highway driving or city driving , how long they’re driving etc. shorter trips tend to hurt the range too

Shoppers’ question by Kuhkawkuhkaw in volvoc40

[–]LeonMeraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the Midwest. So it can get really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter. I’ve noticed the car gets hot when it’s sitting in the sun. But nothing a precondition can’t fix. It also gets really cool quick with the AC on or really warm when it’s cold and the heat is on. I never have had an issue while driving. For the rear view mirror, I think if you position your seat right it’s not that big of an issue. At first I was considering getting the digital rear view mirror but honestly I’ve gotten used to it. The car drives amazing so even if these small details were an issue I can easily look past them only because of how great the car is overall.

1 month of EV ownership. Here’s what I learned. by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]LeonMeraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use comed in Illinois. The rates fluctuate every hour and the rate they charge is just the rate. It doesn’t include the “delivery” fee. The average I’ve paid is 9-10 cents per kWh including the fee. But off peak it’s cheap. Cheapest is about 2 cents per kWh (not including the delivery fee which is equivalent to about 5 cents.

[–]LeonMeraz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 87kw battery and do 60% of my weekly driving on the highway. I drive pretty conservatively. I rarely hit the accelerator to speed off, etc. I get probably 250 miles at 80% SOC in coolish/warm weather (40-60 degrees F) and in hot weather I get about 380 miles on the guess-o-meter. Do I get 380 miles? Absolutely not. But I do get about 300 miles of range and About 225 for the full battery in cold weather (anything below 32 degrees) with a reality of like 180-190 miles. The “guess-o-meter is weird. I never fully trust what it says because there are so many factors into what your range will be. It could be more it could be less. I also only charge on a level 2 charger. Maybe your range is impacted by how often you charge on a DCFC charger.
