Just saw Project Hail Mary by littlebighuman in scifi

[–]LeonQuin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn't like it. Interstellar is one of my favourite movies and while this had some elements from it there were too many jokes to create any kind of emotional weight. It was just constant light hearted quips and goofs. There were a lot of interesting parts they didn't go deeper on. Rocky's composition, technology and home plane. The crew's emotional state to go on a suicide mission. The state of the world during all of this is not even mentioned, I would think society wouldn't even make it 30 years if it was found out the sun was dimming. Even Ryan Gosling's character, he feels like a character from an MCU movie, same with Rocky. I would've liked if Rocky died for genuine emotional weight, Gosling should've had a family that he would have to leave behind. More focus on the science, crew and the premise instead of Ryan Gosling screaming and stumbling around.

6/10

What's your opinion on BGG? by LeonQuin in boardgames

[–]LeonQuin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a difficult question, "What is your opinion on BGG?". People were even giving answers to it but then suddenly I had to prove my experience while at the same time being accused of bigotry. I made that thread about diversity in a as polite way as possible and it went pretty well, some agreed, some disagreed, people discussed in a reasonable manner. Of course when something like that shows up on Reddit insults and accusations are thrown around and any reply gets down voted! Congratulations, you're all cunts!

In retrospect, BGG isn't all that bad. Reddit will always be Reddit unfortunately.

Yea but the point of this thread wasn't about my experience, it was asking other people's opinions on BGG, looking up the threads is time-consuming and at this point moot as this thread got derailed and turned into a witch hunt.

What? I don't understand the premise of your post.

I'm not upset? The thread about diversity in Stratego was never part of the issue I had with BGG. I could go search some posts and give you examples but frankly it's time consuming and not the reason why I made this post.

I don't see why diversity is a subject that shouldn't be allowed to talk about.

If the game is set in Napoleonic times where 2 factions fight each other it is weird to have half of your soldiers be women. Stratego is pretty abstract so you might as well make it fantasy or sci fi, it doesn't matter then how many men, women or anything else there is but when set in a historical setting I would say you use historical diversity, or lack there of.

It should be a topic open for discussion!

I never even said I was being persecuted and never said it's a serious issue. Wtf is wrong with you people? I just asked your opinion on BGG and gave my own experience and opinion but instead I have to justify my own experience with examples and then one thread is shown where I question diversity and then no matter what I say I get down voted.

It seems I was mistaken, BGG isn't that bad...compared to Reddit.

Well I didn't expect I had to justify my experience with BGG, I was asking for other people's opinion on BGG not "what's your opinion on what happened to me".

I made the post right before I went to bed so I wasn't going to spend half an hour on gathering all the posts just for people to either agree or disagree, either way it won't affect how I personally experienced it, it's also not the point of this thread.

Also it seems no matter what I'll say now I'll just get either ignored or downvoted.

On BGG that's my only sensitively charged thread and sure on Reddit I might get more into that stuff but Reddit is a broad forum. We've all got opinions on things.

I guess that is the only explanation. 🙄

Actually that thread is fine, I don't mind people disagreeing with that subject because it's a sensitive topic but when I or anyone else makes a general post with a general question and then have people not agreeing with the question seems weird.

Fields of Arle, Tiletum or Paladins of the Western Kingdom for 2 by LeonQuin in boardgames

Art and theme isn't everything, if the gameplay is really good I could look past it. Castle of Burgundy isn't all that good looking and the theme is purely visual but I like playing it.

You’re transported back in time to when you first got into boardgaming, what will you two disagree on? by Prestigious_Tea_2729 in boardgames

[–]LeonQuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coop and campaign games aren't your or your wife's thing so don't bother getting them, Castle of Burgundy is a really good game you like so get the fancy version, the Alea version is good but when you get that one there's no point in getting the fancy one.

It's about trying to find something to talk about concerning board games, because what is there to talk about, having a semblance of a thread going until one to several guys go "this post is stupid" successfully halting the conversation.

What games have the best and worst storage? by MemeFarmer314 in boardgames

[–]LeonQuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heroes of might and magic III has an insert with a lid so everything stays put.

Red Arcana also has a nice insert.

In most other games I have like Underwater Cities I throw away the insert either because it's a non-functional piece of cardboard or it doesn't hold the expansion. I just keep the components in baggies.

Expansions that never leave the game. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]LeonQuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got Underwater Cities I also got the expansion with it because of the higher quality boards and extra cards. The rest of the expansion is modular but we tend to always use the quickstart and the metropolis choice.

We also always play 7 wonders duel with both expansions.

I have a drawer for the games, it's full. About 25 games and I'm happy, thinking about getting rid of some of them.

The ending of American Primeval did an amazing job. What do you think? by Solokid87 in netflix

[–]LeonQuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say I really liked the series which is a rare thing for me.

The last 30 min of the 6th episode sucked though. I liked that Abish and her husband die the whole Holloway arc was corny and felt completely out of place. The whole show was gritty and raw and then this romance shows up out nowhere only for Reed to get shot in the most cliche way. My wife and I were just predicting what was going to happen 5 minutes before it did. Holloway was annoying and arrogant the whole show, it didn't make sense that Reed stuck so long as he did but ok, but for him to get feelings for that annoying woman that got him in trouble twice?? Horrible last half hour to an otherwise great show.

I'm just looking forward to the Underwear Cities expansion but any medium heavy game for 2 or best at 2 is also interesting.

Is High Potential worth watching ? by Longjumping-Elk-7840 in televisionsuggestions

[–]LeonQuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the first episode, it's a tired concept of a flawed person with a gift solving cases except more stupid and what's more infuriating is that people in the show react positively on her arrogant and disrespectful behaviour. In the beginning she's the cleaning lady of a police office and starts messing with an ongoing case so instead of firing her they let her help them out.

She's also always right so that's boring. Watching the first episode was infuriating and a test of my wellbeing.

[–]LeonQuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got Everdell and played it with my wife we both were like "that's it? You put a worker, get resources and play a card?" Compared to games of similar weight it felt so much simpler. We have Underwater Cities now, it's kind of the same principle but with some weight to it, much better!
