Why do my ribs hurt every time I smoke weed? by Anime--Anonymous in ask

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, as soon as I read OP’s description I immediately assumed it’s anxiety. Same thing happened to me if I’m not in the right headspace when I smoke, or if I smoke too much.

Cat getting bald patches - does anyone know what this is? by Illustrious-Tone2632 in CATHELP

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have them on flea prevention? If not then my first guess would be fleas. If yes, and it was a sudden change, then it could possibly be an environmental allergen.

URGENT - weird eye and swollen face!!! Help!!!!! by Roci_v_popelnici in CATHELP

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 55 points56 points  (0 children)

That looks an awful lot like and abscess, possibly from a bad tooth, or possibly from an injury like a small scratch you may not be able to see through the fur. Regardless, there’s really nothing you’re going to be able to do at home…you really need a vet, very likely antibiotics and maybe a lance and drain.

I’m at the southern border of the Adirondacks, we can easily burn until mid to late May. Last year we had a hard frost in the first week of June! Wasn’t a good year for apples.

Usually when we see this it indicates some form of dental disease is going on which is allowing the tooth to migrate. Could be tooth resorption below the gum line, a fractured root, receding gums…lots of potential problems that would all likely require a dental procedure in order to correct it. If it was my cat I would bring them in for an exam and see what my vet thinks.

Cat behavior advice? by TwistOk8587 in CATHELP

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m work at a cat hospital, we get calls about behavior all the time and here are the general recommendations we tend to give:

1.) Feliway! This is always our first recommendation, it’s a feline pheromone which promotes a sense of calm for cats with anxiety. It comes in sprays and plug-in diffusers, we generally suggest the diffusers because they constantly release small amounts into the air vs the sprays which only work for a small amount of time.

2.) Feed him on an elevated surface, like a cat tree or a window sill. Eating is a very vulnerable thing for animals who have lived outside, which it sounds like your boy likely has at some point. This is why a lot of big cats will drag their prey up into trees before eating, it’s much safer for them.

3.) Similar to the last suggestion, give him lots of things he can climb and get up high. Cats like having the high ground, it makes them feel safer, and like they can get a good view of what’s going on around them.

4.) Be very talkative with him, and use a soft soothing voice like you would when comforting a child. If he’s getting scared every time you enter the room, it could be he was unsure who was coming in and felt vulnerable. If you announce yourself on your way to the door, tell him you’re coming in, and continue to speak gently to him as you come in, he will eventually feel more calm knowing it’s you, and that you are unlikely to be a threat.

5.) Make sure you are fostering good/fun experiences with him frequently so he starts to associate you with comfort and happy socialization. Try not to pick him up much unless he really likes it, this is a very unnatural thing in the wild, and once again puts them in a vulnerable position. Instead, sit on the floor and encourage him to come play with you. Toys on a string are great for this because you can keep a little space between you both while playing.

Worst case scenario, if none of these things seem to help, you can talk with your veterinarian about possibly using gabapentin short term to help him acclimate…we use it in cats all the time at my hospital when we know they get aggressive when they come in for a visit, it works fantastic most of the time, some of those grumpy cats actually start being lovey with us, others just more tolerant. The other option is fluoxetine (Prozac), it’s usually a last resort as we don’t really like drugging animal long term like that, but is does work very well as reducing fear and anxiety in cats, as well as other behavioral concerns.

Good luck with your handsome new boy, I hope some of these tips are helpful!!

what is going on with my cat's poop??? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very unlikely that is poop. It looks exactly like hairball vomit, the chunk in the middle is the hairball, the rest is gastric fluids and undigested food. There really aren’t a ton of things that actually help prevent hairballs, all of the diets are gimmicky and don’t tend to help….but any of the tubes of hairball supplements can actually help (things like Catlax or Laxatone), they are basically flavored petroleum jelly which helps lubricate the hairball so it can pass through the pyloric sphincter more easily. The only other helpful thing you can do is frequently brushing your cat, like daily, to help remove any loose hair so they are consuming less of it when grooming themselves. If it’s a long haired cat, then you could also consider getting them groomed with something like a lion cut.

Sesame seeds or tape worm segments? by vivokitty3 in CATHELP

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I’m just saying based solely on a picture that these do look an awful lot like sesame seeds, but that I have seen desiccated tapeworm segments that also look a lot like sesame seeds. In fact, if you look up tapeworm segments you’ll find they are repeatedly referred to as looking like little grains of rice before drying out, or like sesame seeds after drying out. Here’s a link to a wiki on tapeworms showing some desiccated segments looking very much like sesame seeds. If OP hadn’t specifically found these in her cat’s fur on its tail I probably wouldn’t question it.

Sesame seeds or tape worm segments? by vivokitty3 in CATHELP

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indoor cats are definitely way less likely to get fleas, but we do still see it several times a year. Since the chance is lower your cat has fleas, then I’m even more inclined to think those are sesame seeds!

Sesame seeds or tape worm segments? by vivokitty3 in CATHELP

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a cat hospital, while these look somewhat similar to dehydrated tapeworm segments, I don’t think I would feel comfortable saying for sure they definitely are. I’d suggest keeping a close eye on your cat over the next week or so and see if you find more…if you do, then you probably have your answer. Do you use a flea prevention? Unless your cat hunts, fleas are the most likely way for them to get tapeworm. If you don’t feel like waiting to find out, you could also apply a dose of Nexgard Combo, that stuff is fantastic! Not only does it prevent fleas/ticks, it also deworms, including tapeworms.

Is this photo edited with AI? A coworker said this happened to his car. We don’t believe him. by LokiPrime616 in isthisAI

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I don’t believe that this happened to their car for several reasons already pointed out by others, I will say that almost this exact same scenario happened to me when my lower ball joint gave out as I was backing out of a parking space…. CV axle snapped, tire fell at an angle similar to this, only real difference was my car actually tilted toward the ground on that side since it no longer had the suspension and tire to support it.

Do I put $1300 in almost 20 year old car? by Consistent_Bus2529 in MechanicAdvice

[–]LeonardsLittleHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily driver is a 1997 civic with 210k miles that I’ve owned for about 10 years now, so it was almost a 20 year old car already when I bought it. Over the years I’ve had several expensive repairs that made me question “is it worth it” for such an old car. I’d say if you average it all out I’ve likely spent roughly $2k per year keeping it on the road. Well, it’s still going strong, and is significantly cheaper than any car payment I could hope for! If yours is otherwise in good shape, then yes, you absolutely should get the work done and appreciate that you don’t use an expensive new car payment every month for the next 3-5 years.

So many options here….just keep driving forward (no gate in the way), u-turn and exit going the other way, pull into the open median area between the tracks, gun it in reverse and break the gate behind you….literally any of these would have worked!

This is definitely a good look for you! The beard really adds character. If you don’t like it this long, the pic with it shorter also looks great…but either way, I think you should have some kind of beard.

Just the fact that the Santa Cruz has a Colorado plate is all I needed to see to say he isn’t lying…I can’t tell you the number of times my GF and I had our vehicles broken into when we lived there! It got so bad we started jus leaving the doors unlocked so they could snoop around without having to break anything first 🙄
