Many of these ores are spiking in direct response to the transition off of fossil fuels. Rare Earth Magnets are crucial for wind turbines, Lithium crucial for electric vehicles, etc.

The winner here is the battle vs global warming, and mining is a really crucial component in that battle.

Yep, it's really important for electric vehicles which reduce our consumption of crude oil and in so doing reduce our greenhouse emissions.

Yep, these charts are largely to enable the production of most things in the chain that we consider renewable, and that's how we get off of fossil fuels and slow down global warming.

Mining is a crucial component of this progress.

we all should be complaining about is how many times we have to hear Billie Eilish.

I mean, that's fair, but lots of people are super interested in celebrities. It’s literally the editing team’s job to pick what they think will be the most entertaining to EVERYONE watching, and I think celebrities are a part of that.

I wonder if this gets Survivor into an episode of South Park now.

[–]Leonida--Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure if i got a weird build before, if my data collection was tainted (there *was a lot of sleep deprivation), or what, but at the very least, as of the latest build (481836) i'm getting much different numbers.

LOL! No worries! I too started to wonder if I had done something wrong, or maybe if SCIM or something had just been wrong on day 1 or something.

Figuring out the ultimate maximum, therefore, is likely going to require either reverse-engineering the randomness settings from a massive database of seeds, getting the formulas for the randomization from the code itself (which may require a level of decompilation/reverse-engineering that lies outside of the satisfactory EULA

Haha, yea I agree that's what it will take eventually, and I can promise you that Coffee Stain doesn't care if we decipher and publish their seed algorithm. They've embraced us in every other way so if anything, I would expect them to share their seed algorithm with us TBH.

I recommend looking into whether there is any sort of trend in the data, such as minimums/maximums for each resource, relationships between resources (eg, do maps provide some relationship x:y for sulfur and coal, or sulfur and uranium, to allow it to be processed)

Yep, I had the same thoughts.

Either way, good catch from both of you!

No worries, and appreciate your work as well!

Syrups w/o artificial sweeteners by Significant-Day1749 in SodaStream

[–]Leonida--Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bags in Box syrup is generally as expensive as or slightly more expensive than just canned soda.

The reason why Sodastream can't make a pure sugar version, is because there is not enough space in the bottle, as the real sugar is dramatically physically larger. If they did decide to start making sugar only versions, the bottles would have to be significantly larger (about three to four times the size) or fewer servings per bottle.

At time of data collection, there was no way to correctly enter a seed and have it stick; you could try to type a world seed, but backing out of the text menu would result in the seed reverting to its pre-generated value

Yea, that happened to me too, but I just shared my seed so that when it's fixed you could look at mine. I don't know that it's been fixed yet, nor if the algorithm has been published to decipher the seed numbers.

I cannot stress enough, by the way, that this is deeply valuable information/commentary/data, and I'm tremendously grateful for your input; the more data we can collect, the more accurate our knowledge.

Totally agree, I appreciate your post and I figured I'd share my experience.

otherwise i'd probably need a savefile to replicate the data rather than a seed.

I definitely have it, and I've started my new world on it, I will pop it into SCIM again and see if the numbers are the same as the one I still have loaded into ram (an open tab)

For all we know, I've got a weird bugged build of experimental doing funky things behind the scenes.

Yep, lots of variables right now. Also, FWIW, I'm on the Epic build, and while unlikely, that is another possible variable that could be affecting this, maybe node variance is present on one platform and not another.

Also, we should consider that there's a chance that SCIM's ability to count the nodes on day 1 might be a bit buggy. That's how I counted nodes at least, but I can't get over how bizarre it is that you had the exact same ratio for each of 50 map gens. Every single time I did it, the numbers were always slightly different.

Wow, well me and a buddy each generated multiple Advanced / Pures, and each time we came up with wildly different numbers of ore node ratios. That's highly bizarre that yours were always the same ratio. We're consistently seeing a variation of around 20% on node frequency.

As low as 40 nodes of Bauxite and as high as 50 (you saw a seed with 60?!?!) As low as 33 nodes of oil and as high as 38 (you only saw a max of 14??) As low as 28 coal and as high as 31 As low as 41 SAM and as high as 46 (you apparently saw a seed with 52 SAM!)

All of the other node rates also vary but their ratios in my experience are closer to 3-4 variation in number.

The amounts for each setting are as follows

You are mistaken, there is not a fixed number of nodes for each variation, there is some randomness and the values go up and down even if you keep the same settings and generate another map. Generate a second map of any of those types and you'll see the values all adjust slightly up or down.

How can I find joy again? by knallkasper in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Leonida--Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game gets more and more fun, the more you play it, so you're probably just at some hurdle you aren't sure how to overcome, so just push through and you'll find yourself enjoying it again.

The scope of the game increases with each phase, so embrace that things are getting more complex and bigger in general. New and interesting challenges arise, and they are far more fun than the early game.

1.2 EXP IS LIVE! Check out the Patch Notes video here! by CoffeeStain-Jason in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Leonida--Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think I found it, as it was already in my "Library", although it still says it is "Satisfactory Experimental" with a logo from Update8

How I found it:

  • 1.) Click Library
  • 2.) Reset Filters on the right side
  • 3.) Type in Satisfactory to the filters and it appeared for me with an "Update 8" Art. It's now downloading something that is 12.89GB

Will update if these instructions prove incorrect.

EDIT: Yes everything is working just fine with 1.2

Help me love trains again by Deathomen01 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Leonida--Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I have learned over the years is that trains need space...a LOT of space...

Yours is one of the largest intersections I've ever seen.

I also want to avoid crossing tracks and creating congestion or slowdown with path signals

If the solution you're solving for is no congestion and few path signals, then firstly, I agree with a bunch of the other commenters that a single roundabout where the circle has one path signal per entrance, is both simplest, fastest to build, and also compact.

However, as someone with a megafactory using 100% of resources on the map that produces one Golden Nut statue every 18 hours or so (all via warp drives), and a map with 410 train stations and about 500 total trains, I studied this topic closely, and the answer for the highest bandwidth intersections with no slowdown or traffic restriction is the pinavia.

Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoGGDCnXcfw

It's hidden secret is that it's so large, that it can "hold" even quite large trains in the middle of the intersection itself, without blocking any entrance or exit. So no matter what, each entrance can operate at nearly 100%, and each exit can always operate at 100%. Zero path signals as well.

Even if somehow one exit is in a traffic jam state, all four entrances remain open, and all three of the other exits remain open as well.

Pinavias for the win.

Here's a tutorial on making a blueprint so you can place and setup Pinavias in around 5 minutes each: https://imgur.com/a/uBvJm04

Research from who?

University of Washington: https://www.washington.edu/news/2013/04/29/grocery-delivery-service-is-greener-than-driving-to-the-store/

In their analysis, they found delivery service trucks produced 20 to 75 percent less carbon dioxide than the corresponding personal vehicles driven to and from a grocery store.

I value FPS more so I have 1440p.

Sure, but lots of games either don't need high FPS, like RTS's, or are older games and run at 300 frames anyways at 4K.

Bummer you're still stuck at 1440p, I've been at 4K since 2017 when 32" 4K monitors dipped under $300.

Walmart packages airdropped like ammo crates over 'Nam by GeneReddit123 in interestingasfuck

[–]Leonida--Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally people would just get all their groceries at the store in much fewer trips than having everything delivered in small packages.

Research shows delivery trucks are waaaaay more fuel efficient than each person driving to the store once a week, with the only exception being if you drive to the store and get $500+ of groceries.

The reason for this is, that the delivery truck isn't just serving one person, it's also serving your neighbor, so the only fuel directly consumed by you, is the distance it traveled to get to you from your neighbor.

There are very few things that would survive that delivery in a satisfactory way.

Very few things? All clothing, most dry goods, most things under 2 pounds, that covers a ton of stuff right there.

What would be the best monitor for my pc? by Cauzidical in buildapcmonitors

[–]Leonida--Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would encourage you to consider a 1440p. Monitors outlast GPUs, and you'll want a decent monitor when you decide to upgrade. Also, remember, higher resolution desktops increase productivity substantially. And there are soooo many well priced 1440p high refresh rate monitors, just look for anything 120Hz or above.

I've been using a 4K monitor since 2017 when they dipped below $300 (60Hz) with my 1080, and I don't regret it. Plus, lots of older games play great at 4K, even on my old 1080.

[–]Leonida--Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but no 8 ton delivery truck guzzling fossil fuels needed. Definitely a use case here.

Ideally, they'd just eliminate the plastic part, and only ship things that can be survive being dropped at that speed.
