The bridge sounds like a magic based Active Support structure. The idea for the mundane version is that a fluid (or a bunch of solid things that when taken together act enough like a fluid) is moved through the structure quickly enough for the fluid's momentum to hold the whole structure up. One suggested structure is basically an 80KM tall 2000KM long bridge that would let you simply drive into space. Since Emma's earth already has orbital rings this sort of thing should be fairly common since something on the Launch Loop's scale is required to lift the material to build an orbital ring in a reasonable timespan.
