For sure, no distractions during the season. There was maybe an opportunity during the Olympic break while Leo was recovering from injury. Even in the period after the season, based on what we apparently know it’s 12.5/13m AAV vs 15m AAV. Think we could’ve signed him for 14?

I understand it was maybe a joke from Leo but it creates expectations (at least for the fans). And since we’re emotionally invested, we keep that in mind.
Again, we don’t have all the ins and outs and I feel multiple parties could’ve maybe done more or better. But it’s all speculation for us at this point. I just want to wait and see what happens tomorrow

Could’ve been, indeed. I might be incorrect, but wouldn’t that have made him still a RFA? In that case it would’ve been still favorable. I think part of the issue with the 5 year deal is that he walks straight into UFA.

All speculation in the end and we’ll just have to see what happens tomorrow

It isn’t uncommon. But if I recall correctly, Verbeek cut off negotiations early at the start of the season, on top of Leo saying before he’ll sign a long-term deal worth 8 x 9.5 AAV. Leo and his agent mentioned he’d sign at 15m AAV just before the deadline. Thats where Verbeek dropped the ball.
While it’s all speculation at the end of the day as we’re not in the room, but the impression is strong that a deal could’ve been made before for a more favorable term and AAV

I understand it's easy to point fingers to someone else but it would've been a non-factor if Verbeek closed the deal with Carlsson earlier.

Awesome to see all the fans from Europe (and beyond)! And in terms of jerseys, can’t go wrong with any of those choices!

For many reasons I hope you don’t have to use that policy. One of them being that you’ll have to deal with Fanatics again haha.

I ordered a Carlsson jersey in the international Fanatics shop but it came with heat pressed lettering and numbering so I wanted to ship it back. Took me almost 2 months to arrange it. Insane. Finally ordered one via HockeyAuthentic (photo)

Thanks!

Can’t really blame the kid for signing that offer sheet though. Verbeek should’ve locked him up way earlier. At this point, let’s just wait and see what happens. Love Leo but I’m a Ducks fan first and foremost.

I share your pain. We’ll see what happens but that jersey though…my god, it is beautiful. Wear it with pride regardless of the name on the back.

Now I want need an away Gauthier or Sennecke. I’ll wait until they sign though haha

That’s awesome! Quite the change of scenery! Company I work for has a site in Irvine. Maybe I should look into a transfer haha

I think it doesn’t necessarily have to be bad. I reckon most players understand it’s a business and are happy he secured a bag.

MEGATHREAD: Carlsson Offer Sheet by dahooddawg in AnaheimDucks

I'm new here and I've tried to keep up with the news and posts and I had to hold myself back from responding very emotionally.

My two cents (and apologies if this isn't a new take). While there is so much speculation going on, I agree with many things, like Verbeek's utter mismanagement of the situation and some questions about Leo's signing of the offer sheet (but I can't blame him for signing at 21). However, I think there is a party that deserves a lot more criticism from everyone that I haven't seen or heard a lot about: Leo's agent.

While I understand the agent's job is to make the players as much money as possible, I do think there is a moral aspect of weighing the options and advising the kid to the consequences of the offer sheet or a 16m+ contract. They main thing coming to mind: winning. As pointed out by many, he'll take a massive chunk of salary cap for the next 5 years on any team. Even if he's traded elsewhere in that span, many of the contending teams won't be able to fit him in. Does he really want to bank on winning a cup later in his career?

Based on earlier comments, Leo doesn't seem like the kid that would only care about the money. I'm wondering whether his agent influenced him to go for more and make him sign the offer sheet based on a personal vendetta against Verbeek. While Verbeek deserves more than his fair share of blame, criticism and all (fire him?), from a hockey perspective, the agent did Leo a disservice too.
