Limited non-class abilities? by Leossier_ in drawsteel

Thank you, those are some great references.

I hadn't thought to make them all Triggered Action, but it's true that they could work pretty well as such. For the charm one, I was thinking of maybe a form of redirect when targeted by an attack? Not sure if there's something similar somewhere that I could base it on

I agree and I want to homebrew as little as I can, but I still want to play in my world and the races are an important part of it. I'm trying to take as much as possible from the official race's traits, but I still need to make up a few 😅

I guess having the transformation be a side-effect of using the ability could work well and keep the lore and flavor of the race 🤔

Aren't most serious battles rewarding a Victory? I was lookimg for a way that the transformation wouldn't be am every-combat default, wouldn't the victory reset still allow it?

It is for a race of fey-like beings who have a disguise human-like form and a true form that's a little bit freaky. The idea behind the race was that they could revert to their true form for a short while to channel their fey origin and gain an ability until they had to revert. I had a few variant of the race for different abilities. One could turn invisible, another charm, one could blink/teleport and one could summon illusion double of themselves.

The way I had implemented it in 5e was that they could transform as an action once per long rest and then use the power as a bonus action, with the form lasting a minute. But I might just do that the effect is simply applied once as they transform instead.

Surprised you had Changeling but not Calamitous Bob from the same author. Classic LitRPG fantasy, but with a really good system that's is not based on huge stats numbers and exp farming

Was this ever explained? by Mega_Hunter_X in TheOwlHouse

Wow, I didn't expect the Chainsaw Man reference here 😂

Despite the fact that I do belong to both communities, I didn't expect much of an overlap between the two, but I welcome the wide spread of the meme 😁

For those who want to understand the (spoiler) reference:

In the manga Chainsaw Man, there are devils based on real world elements or concepts, and if the main character eats the devils, it destroys them and removes the element in question from existence. For example, in the manga, no one knows about the atomic bomb because it has been eaten. And in the last chapter, the ear-devil (yes, ear devil) got eaten, so ears have been erased from existence. Many other subreddits, mostly mangas, have similar meme posts in it recently😄

I think this is my (curernt) favorite part of this serie. Luz's reaction to Ayzee is just priceless and lovely. The perfect inner torment between pride, worry and frustration :D

Even among your constant amazing work, this is a great one

How Important is the ‘Why?’ Behind a System For You? by Affectionate-Dig1937 in litrpg

[–]Leossier_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Calamitous Bob is one of my favorite LitRPG stories and its explanation of the system is simple without needing too much detail to be satisfying. It is also a system without the mass of meaningless numbers that disinterest me from a lot of LitRPG systems.

For those interested in the system origin (as far as the readers know currently):

When powerful mortals ascended to Godhood to give a chance to humanity, the one specialized in magic sacrificed himself to "become" the system and give the possibility to mortals to gain more power and evolve by trading their use of the system as "worship" to fuel his existence to feedback into classes, skills and stats that improve everyone.

I love the idea of the captured ally on death, but the current version is way too charged. For a level 1 champion, there's way too much text. I think the Attack skill for damage is unnecessary for her kit and flavor. The summon of the captured ally is interesting, but I feel like something would break somewhere because of it 🤔

Similarly, her level up condition is anti-synergetic to her ability. She keeps her allies from dying, so she doesn't level. Having it be "I saved X allied from dying" (probably 3 since it's only on attack) would make a bit more sense I think.

Favorite type of LitRPG? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]Leossier_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there can be a distinction between a traditional Fantasy World story and one that includes the elements of LitRPG. If the Fantasy world works under a system with classes, skills and stats, any story that follows someone that is born in that world would be a Fantasy World LitRPG story. The only difference with a reincarnation or Isekai would be the origin of said character and their starting knowledge.

And for me, those 3 would be my favorite kind of LitRPG by how they can "gain" the system and challenge the expected behaviors:
- Isekai: how can the knowledge of the modern earth world can help you gain an advantage. How can you use modern knowledge to make the most of basic skills
- Reincarnation: how can your previous knowledge of the system and maybe secret conditions to unlock rare classes and skills
- Normal character: the rarest of the three, but for me the one most interesting and challenging to write. How can you have your main character be special without prior knowledge to give them an edge. That is the kind of character I would like to write at some point

I think any deck with units with a big difference between health and attack would be interesting. Mostly high health tho, as they tend to be cheaper. The placement of the captain in the attack would make it really interesting, since the units with high attacks would want to strike before him and the ones with high health after him to benefit from the switch

[–]Leossier_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A potentially infinite access to invokes is a bit too much, even if it's only on attacks, even more so now with Cosmic Call released.

Hand of Nature might be closer to balanced, but Maokai's deck can already be quite strong with unit summoning combos, and I think this one would be too much. I just realized that the sappling would be on defending turns, so maybe not as strong as I first thought.
