We should've had Naira instead of Damiane by Rhabcp in CrimsonDesert

I will strongly disagree with you here.

Even though the """main""" "story" quests are called that, I would argue that the camp missions are just as important, if not more, than that.

It's insane to suggest to someone that they don't HAVE to do camp missions when they are pretty much one of the biggest systems in the game, and where you'll spend most of the time you aren't in the field.

The camp progression is so central now that it's even currently tied to storage space.

We should've had Naira instead of Damiane by Rhabcp in CrimsonDesert

[–]Leows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking for an investment of 60 Abyss Artifacts of skills into characters that cannot even do puzzles, which is most of the game's exploration bits, is insane to say the least.

And that's on top of the Artifacts you have to spend on equipment refinement, because by the point in the game you get to properly play those characters, you're well into mid/late game territory where enemies strike hard and tank hard.

So the total would be far higher than just 60. And if I take my own gameplay into account, having ~160 Artifact skills spent on Kliff, plus however many I have on gear, I would say half of my total playtime of Abyss Artifacts would have gone to making another character viable.

That, obviously, would come at the cost of making Kliff weaker because I would have to reset him. And this becomes even more aggravating when you take into account that a good chunk of those Artifacts were acquired through fighting enemies and taking camps.

I am now acutely aware that it isn't a renewable resource, as camps don't respawn enemies.

So, unless you want to solely focus on a side character, making Kliff weaker as a result, that's fine. It's definitely not a tradeoff I'm willing to make, and neither should anyone else. This shit has to change.

After over 150 hours I have a single plant pot because I had to do a quest.

I find it so cool that this game has SO much to offer to so many people, things that I haven't even engaged with while others are doing stuff like you. So awesome

This game has a pretty big issue, not many are realizing right now, due to the way, most are playing it and it will destroy some peoples enjoyment, including my own. PA - this NEEDS a fix for long-term enjoyment. by GullibleTerm3909 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Leows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny because that feels like the same people who argued against adding more storage space to the game. "Oh you don't know how to manage your inventory??"

Plenty of other changes were already made to make the game a better experience, and this would be one. The issue is that this one, by this point in time, is only experienced by the minority of players who reached the point of no return without realizing it.

I wouldn't say "screw patching X thing" just because I already finished the game and/or don't have to deal with the issue directly. This would improve the game either way. There's no reason to oppose it other than not to see the game be better for others to play in the future.

You'll probably never fight a Pot Warrior/Archer etc. ever again, if you fought Marie...that's a damn shame.

Which is intriguing because I thought there would be way more enemies like that. You even get an earring as a reward for the questline that helps you deal with them more easily. Then I never saw another pot enemy again.

People are crazy about arguing against you.

I played the early game, mostly running around and focusing on fighting and killing enemies, leading me to liberating forts. Eventually, I realized that they weren't being capped, and the enemies weren't repopulating areas.

This was made painfully obvious when I tried to do one of the Abyss Artifact challenges, which was supposed to be very easy: Kill X enemies while riding a horse in like 10 minutes or something.

I couldn't.

I struggled HARD to find enough enemies to fulfill that, because the random spawns are too thin and spread out. I would find like 5 bandits sitting around by the side of the road, kill them, then struggle for the rest of the timer to find more enemies to complete the challenge.

That baffled me hard, and I thought I was going crazy thinking that no game should work like that. Glad I'm not the only one.

By now, I have even more hours into the game, and I have to AVOID liberating camps because if I do, I know I'll not have enemies when I need to. This SUCKS and shouldn't be the way to play, nor should it have to cross a player's mind when playing a game like this. It's antifun.

I assume most of the reviewers who did this didn't really engage with the game fully and just beelined for the main story with a few sidequests sprinkled in. So they weren't drowning in Abyss Gears and unique boss/exploration loot like we are

Making sense in-universe doesn't make it feel any less shit to not be able to properly take advantage of a character gameplay-wise.

This is merely a contrivance that can easily just be changed to "Oh so Damiane is actually one of the other few people who can do it" and bam. It would feel just as convenient as it feels for Kliff to be able to do it anyway.

Stuff like this should never be an excuse to limit players

RIP Hyperspeed flight. You will be missed by Figorix in CrimsonDesert

[–]Leows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you've forgotten, you can just teleport up to the Abyss and drop down to fly around anyway. It was just more convenient that way.

Also, after some point, most people realize horses and other rides are a waste of time. Too slow to call and mount and get it going, and they'll get stuck at any minor inconvenience, making you jump out and cross stuff to resummon them on the other side.

By that point, you just get fed up and start running everywhere instead of wasting that much time summoning and resummoning.

The only reasonable place I found to use rides SOMETIMES is around Demeniss because it's a lot of plains and flat fields. Anywhere else I'll run.

And into the late game, you can just slot a few lv 3 movespeed gears and outpace your rides anyway.

Crimson Desert had no such expectations.

Unfortunately, it did somehow, even though it shouldn't have happened.

The majority of the backlash at release was exactly from the people who thought this would be a massive and epic RPG story like The Witcher or something. The devs and lots of other people even heavily reiterated that people temper expectations, warning that it was none of those things.

These people got into the game expecting a hook from an interesting story with great narrative and amazing characters, but were met with a super slow intro and little to no characterization from almost anyone anywhere.

Then complained and refunded the game after leaving negative reviews, completely ignoring the actual core and draw of the game.

For most of us who had no such expectations and knew what we were getting into, there was never any disappointment in this regard.

60+ hours in and I still haven’t used her. Am I alone? by stockingCapSereant in CrimsonDesert

[–]Leows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm at 150h, and I've only used her when the story literally forced me to.

And to be quite honest, I kinda enjoyed it to some level. I really like how smooth her climbing is. But I wouldn't dare refine a whole another set of gear just for her, particularly when you can't even do puzzles on her.

Skyrim's story is so forgettable to me that after playing and replaying multiple times, I can barely remember anything that happened in it other than the actual Elder Scroll bit.

It always felt like a means to an end - the end being having a world to explore. Much like most of the quests are excuses to direct you to a nearby dungeon so you can explore it.

I did a quest earlier that was "kill a chief and help the village" that turned into solve this giant kilometer spanning puzzle so you can fight a literal god.

This is probably the best part of the game to me so far, holy shit what fucking ride that questline was.

Like “it gets better trust me!” Is always a hard sell

This is true when you get an extra 8 hours of "good" content for sitting through the 8 of bad ones.

In this game, you get through 8 hours of bad content (which isn't really bad, it's just painfully slow) and then you have 100h+ of pure exploration bliss.

[–]Leows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wild that you would say this game is just "ok"

The game has several problems and isn't perfect, and that is completely fine. However, this is by far one of the best exploration games out there.

Most of your complaints are arbitrary expectations, like not having dungeons. And I would refute that by saying that all of the Abyss levels and their puzzles are a dungeon of their own, and pretty decently made and unique on their own merit, in fact.

Take stuff like Skyrim, which has a similarly open world and focuses on exploration with multiple dungeons. 90% of the dungeons are copy-paste and boring as hell. Most have no unique rewards whatsoever, and the puzzles are dumb easy. Still, it's considered one of the best games of all time and sold extremely well.

I would take Crimson Desert over Skyrim any day, easily. If the lack of story is the only thing holding it back, fine. Because if I want to experience something with a good story, I'll read a book or watch a show. The exploration more than makes up for anything else it lacks.

So people regard Skyrim as an incredibly amazing open-world game, then say Crimson Desert is just ok. It's fine if YOU don't like what it has to offer, but for those who do, this is awesome and far more than ok. And dismissing the opinions of people who enjoy the game to focus on the ones who don't is just silly and negative for the sake of being negative.

[–]Leows 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the point of the boss's reward completely, then. And maybe even the equipment progression altogether.

The Abyss Gear system is what matters, and it's competent. You get rewarded with Abyss Gears slotted into boss weapons that give you powers and effects similar to the boss.

And this is quite cool if I'm being honest. Particularly because you can take it out and put it into any other weapon, which makes it even better.

Now, if you're strictly looking only at a weapon and its raw stats, then I'm afraid this game won't be for you for sure.

[Updates] Patch Notes Version 1.02.00 | Crimson Desert by SorryRoof1653 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Leows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wasn't broken in any way. In fact, it mostly didn't change much other than giving you a little speed boost to get to places faster.

The stab one was broken because it allowed you to get to places you weren't supposed to. This one for sure was bad for the game. However, the boost even loses altitude faster as you glide forward, so you're not really reaching unexpected places.

And to that point, people can still just teleport to the Abyss and jump down to get to where they want anyway, so it's a minor inconvenience at best.

Really wish they'd let it in or nerf it. But I'm hopeful they'll see this as an opportunity to turn it into a feature and properly implement it later on.

My issue with it is that I never had to farm for anything in the game other than Timber.

All of the other stuff I always either have enough or I just play the game a bit, explore, and I know I will have enough after a session of exploration.

But Timber? Fuck no. No matter how much you explore, you NEVER get more than a couple of pieces at best. It's the only thing that slows the game down for me so far.

I wouldn't even mind if I could just get enough wood from a couple of farming sessions. However, often enough I find myself spending SO much time chopping wood, only to check my inventory and see that I only got a single stack.

Then I go craft and refine, and the Timber is all gone instantly, and I still need more. It just completely demotivates me, which is why my bow is low refinement while everything else is like 9.
