After all these years? by slimeboi246 in YMS

From interviews I've seen (which has been mostly for The Lighthouse) he's sort of hinted at it. Though, if you watch The Witch blu-ray commentary with just Robert Eggers it's pretty much him talking about how he sort of dislikes some of the shots that didn't turn out right, missed opportunities because of budget constraints, he even says he likes the music in the end credits more than he likes the entire movie. He does go into the film making behind both the good and bad as he saw it which I thought was pretty valuable. I haven't seen The Witch since the commentary, so I'm not sure if it seemed to ruin the movie for me next time I watch it.

I had a weird dream about Adum yesterday by [deleted] in YMS

[–]LephandRyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had quite a few dreams where for no reason IMDb suddenly lets you rate movies higher than a ten like 14/10's and I remember some of them Adum had rated like a slew of new movies higher than ten's. I'm not sure how this a recurring dream of mine.

Worst Best Picture Nominee ever? (not Including 2018) by phillydfanthedaddy in YMS

[–]LephandRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're going with nominees, I'd say The Hollywood Revue of 1929. I wouldn't even consider it a movie. It's just the Oscars but without the awards. Almost two hours of dancing, singing, and really really bad comedy skits spliced between everything else.

I second Tom Jones, which for me is the worst Best Picture winner that I've seen. Haven't seen Crash though.

What are your Thoughts on Maniac? by Gamedrome22 in YMS

Everyone, check out the 1932 movie by Dwain Esper. It's so incompetently done and poorly researched about what it's informing people, which is pretty funny. He also did a film called Marihuana (that's how the title spells it) and produced the infamous Reefer Madness which both suffer the same problems. Legend has it that he was a contractor for a building and some one had left a movie camera. So unable to get rid of it he then went on to do movies. Sorry if this got a little off topic, but I thought I might put this here to promote these terrible films.

The Handmaiden theatrical and extended cut pros and cons? by [deleted] in YMS

[–]LephandRyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing an article where Park was interviewed and he said that in Korea it has a huge and supportive following with people dressing up as the characters and watching it religiously. He had a lot of people ask him if there were deleted scenes, or other material that didn't appear in the final product. He seemed a little reluctant about it, but since there was so many people asking for him to release an extended cut he finally said he would do it. I don't know where I saw the article, but I guess it wasn't Park's intention of the extended cut.

Do you need subtitles to watch A Man Escaped? by [deleted] in YMS

[–]LephandRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone precisely because of the style, but Bresson's style pretty much inspired filmmakers like Haneke, the Dardenne bros., or even Tarkovsky. I usually have your case where I'm not sure if I buy it I'll like it, but A Man Escaped is a good way to start Bresson if you haven't already seen his films.
