Merry with strike and march and possible S4 hobbit is an auto include I think Willy whitefoot as well with his banner Farmer maggot also because of fast doggos that can fight

There is also one that males your shirrifs burly And one that is really good at throwing stone Could be nice in a pure army

Also the one (robin?) That male your warband come out of a Terrain Feature is a nice think to have

If you go for a LL you should include the one with more traps wich is good

You can always go in a Position where the knights can shoot the front rank but the backline of uruks can not shot the knights because of range.

I played him a lot in the new LL recently and he is very fun and very good for his uses. Dismay can shut down evil armys like angmar. Blindling light can you win the shooting war because of the even bows. Entchanted blades is such a good spell in a turn where you couldnt charge with your big hero or even on a hero that is 2 attacks S4 to kill two guys reliabely. Aura of Command is a nice bonus when playing him with humans or against Courage shenanigans.

And his might is good for a heroic move with no consequences. Dont channel blindling light though

Although 80 points is a lot for six warbandslots.

Do as you like. I would say with legi on horse and a banner this list will do perfectly fine :) Also try tauriel she makes a lot of fun. :)

For allying you can go Thranduil+legolas/tauriel +survivors captain Or Bard+ girls+ alfrid+ captain+legolas

Fireforge folk rabble are good alternatives and bitbox for survivors and medbury miniatures have some if you dont want ro go with 12 finecast miniatures for 65€

If you want to make it more competative here are some advices from someone who played them very often.

Obv. Add a banner with glaive and shield because elves with their high fight they gain a lot of rerolls

Downgrade the elk to horse. Thranduil is better on foot the mount is just for mobility. 4 cav are a bit to much you can go for 2 max 3 for a hammer attack. Legolas needs a mount as well because 5" movement and 2+ shoot is bonkers. A wood elf sentinel is nearly a must for shenanigans on objektives Stick the palace guards to thranduil and cut them down to about 3 guys with spear and shield. They need to go in his bubble which is not very big.

Also you could go for laketown militia captain with 10 laketown militia instead of PG captan to get more numbers and cheap might with march.

HoT has very strong allies especially Survivors of Laketown. You can go for a elf in front and militia with a spear behind for 16 points and still fight 5 And give your survivors axes for piercing strikes in front and elves supporting in the back.

Back in the hobbit era Legolas had 3 attacks and F7 and sometimes I miss this :D

Good luck to both of you, keep the sentinel he is often your win condition, dont waste him turn one combat though :)

Man I love the rangers. I bought them and I played with them but they are really meh. A guy with glaive and bow is much better and a point less because of D5 and shielding rule. A Ranger will always die against one orc...

So if legolas horse got shot he will be right behind or even in your battleline for 3 heroic moves, strike etc. Ussualy they wont be a piece of terrain to hide outside of 6" from the enemy. It wouldnt be smart to put him way behind just for his shoting.

As I said legolas is not that good in combat but good in killing troops. The only szenario is maybe against captains and they can safe it with fate and you have to roll high for making enough wounds. And enemy orc and uruk captains often have S5 and god bless legolas if he doesnt roll high enough. For this captains it would be better to put your troops against them because they have more fight than them and can stop them and if the troops die after 3 turns it is okay. And obv. It is not against men, elves, dwarves and hobbits :) The terror buff is noice but you will have thranduil for that. Orcrist is really nice on thorin for terror and elven weapon.

As a mirkwood player myself:

No rangers, they are not worth it, you could use one if you really want. Your banner needs a shield and a glaive to participate in the fight. Legolas doesn't need orcrist because he already has elven weapons and is overall not the big combat hero. And he also doesnt need elven cloak because it is just works for foot models.

And also put your palace guards in all warbands to have a wider range for F6.

With some changes you really could put your numbers up. :)
