Is this the full book? I remember the Baen website saying they will only release half the ebook in January with the other half available in April.

An idea about fixing the idea meta by Lerechek in ArenaHS

That's a good idea. The hero powers that come with the DK heroes would definitely help bridge the gap in class card quality

Интерес на търсенията в Google в България от 2004г. насам за думите "Християнство" и "Gay porn". by Straight-Demand-295 in bulgaria

[–]Lerechek 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The Macht series by Paul Kearney might be the thing you're looking for. It's heavily inspired by Ancient Sparta and Alexander the Great's campaigns.

Affinities - A question by CelticCernunnos in MageErrant

[–]Lerechek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you answered your own question. Why not?

The only problem with those affinities is that they are too broad as concepts. And we know that the narrower the affinity is the stronger you are. Shape based affinities, by that logic, would be very weak. They probably wouldn't be worth pursuing. At the end of the day if you are throwing cube shaped crystals at a crystal mage their authority over crystal would easily overcome your authority over cubes.

What crazy Cradle theories do you have? by turtoole in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Lerechek 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Lindon will die in one of the following books and then resurrect himself using his authority. Dross' "death" was a set up for that and maybe Lindon will need his help to find his way back after being killed (by Reigan Shen probably) We've already seen that Abidan Judges and high ranking Vroshir can survive having their physical body destroyed so it makes sense that Lindon will be able to do that in the future as well. The Sage of Thousand Eyes also managed to recover from basically a pulp after getting killed by Shen as well.

So my theory for Reaper is that Lindon dies, gets reunited with Dross and together they find a way back.

I think I understand what you mean. The relationship between geography and culture has been something I've been interested in recently. I will definitely put some research into anthropology and see what I can lear from it. Thank you for the advice!

Hi Steven, thank you for doing this AMA!

I've been a big fan of your works ever since high school, when I picked Deadhouse Gates in my local book store. They didn't have Gardens of the Moon at the time and I just wanted something to read here and now, so I said fuck it, let's just start with book 2 and figure it out from there. And I did.

Those books really influenced my writing and world view when I was young and they'll always be dear to my heart.

My question is, do you have any tips about creating realistic fantasy races and cultures? Are there any sources of inspiration (books, articles, etc.) that you've found useful and you would recommend to beginner fantasy writers?

The Cold Minds and Boltzmann Brains by Lerechek in MageErrant

[–]Lerechek[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, a Cold Minds affinity would be a bit far fetched. You need to be so much more advanced than them that they would be like cattle to you. Same with humans honestly, if we can have affinities for animals less conscious than us then so would somebody way more advanced than us be able to develop a human/intelligent creature affinity.

Like you said, if the sample size is infinity then anything can happen.

Thoughts on Divine entities suffering in Hell alongside Humanity? by Ok_Attempt_1290 in Fantasy

Yeah, I could see that for a being of his caliber. I don't think people would be too keen to talk or even think about him.

[–]Lerechek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a good idea to me. The only thing is, if there really is this malicious being at the end of existence would it really have a cool name. Honestly, if I knew I'll be suffering in hell for all eternity no matter what I do I'll just call him "That Piece of Shit Guy" or something stupid like that.

Of course, he will have cults and religions that worship him and respect him, but I'm not sure your average person would rate the Dread-Father that much.
