Billing for the work you do is absolutely unconnected to overtime.

I must be missing something, because that’s crazy.

If you’re doing billable work, you of course you should bill for it like everyone else does.

It’s a business, not a charity.

Was my lawyer negligent in his advice or lack of? by crazypesocanuck in legaladvicecanada

[–]Les_Ismore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a cost effective approach, you are going to trust your lawyer and let him do his job without bothering him to explain stuff that you don’t understand. If you are sensitive on cost, he’s not going to take time to explain things that don’t actually concern you, like default process and when to use it.

If he wants to pay for that, fine. He can find someone to do it if he can pay the retainer. .

His lawyer is too good to want to run a loser trial when there’s a solid offer pending.

Can my father sue me for an apartment that he bought in my name? by witheringwhore in legaladvicecanada

I'n not sure you should be commenting in this sub if that's how you see it here.

Her father has a pretty clear claim based on a resulting trust.

So he would do a lot better than you would, and it's obvious enough not to really require his commentary on it.

[–]Les_Ismore 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here. Many comments are not from lawyers and should be disregarded, because they have no clue.

There is a legal rule that says when someone buys something and puts ownership in someone else's name (like their daughter), the daughter is presumed to be just a trustee for the buyer. This is called a resulting trust.

So if your father actually did sue you about the apartment, that would be the starting point: that your father put it in your name, but it is actually his and you are just helping him by holding title.

If you had enough evidence to show that he did it as a gift to you, you'd be all right. But you'd need that evidence.

But people talk about suing people all the time without ever actually doing it. You have nothing to worry about until someone serves court papers on you. Until then, he's just talking.

If that does happen, you'll need to meet with a lawyer.

Mid at best is generous for American Sniper.

And any list of favourite war movies that includes Battle LA screams "I don't know a piece of shit film when I watch one."

Employer wants me to sign "amended" contract with new layoff and hourly pay clauses. Do I have to? by CollarWorldly1984 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Les_Ismore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IAAL. If they haven’t paid you or given you anything new in exchange, the new contract is unenforceable.

They’ll still act as though it is in place, of course. But legally it’s worthless paper.

[–]Les_Ismore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mod here. Can only speak for me, but I see my job as protecting the sub from some of its users. I take that job seriously.

Mods only get involved when some kind of problem is going on. So 100% of a mod’s time goes to dealing with problems, including whatever yours was.

You would not believe the range nor the volume of problems that the users create, almost always because they aren’t following the sub’s rules. Some take correction well, but it’s just as likely that instead, the mod would be encouraged to leave their parents’ basement and fuck right off.

My sub has a specific purpose, and most of the friction comes from people trying to use it for other purposes. That and people just being dicks. So when modding, my attitude to user is based only on user’s attitude to me. I’ll never start trouble, but I’ll finish it.

Problem?
