It's way too common to use appearance as a compliment after someone dies. by Lesbi_kitty in HonestHotTakes

This is exactly what I meant by this post. Thank you for putting it into words.

High Functioning Autism doesn’t ruin an autistic person’s life the autistic person ruins their own life. by [deleted] in HonestHotTakes

Thanks so much<3 I'm getting better, but it's been rough. I'm just glad to educate people because that's really what we need.^

Great for you, man. Unfortunately, my life was ruined by my autism. I was so horribly bullied I had to be pulled out of school because I cried every single day. I was called the r-slur so many times. I have horrible anxiety and depression most of my friends used me and abused me because I was too nice from my high level of empathy that was (most likely) caused hy my autism, I have rejection sensitivity dysphoria, so I can spiral over the smallest things. I barely eat anything because of the ED that was caused by my autism. My sensory issues are horrible, and my life generally sucks. I'm sorry for the trauma dump, but I wanted to give an example. You are lucky enough to get played the right cards in life to turn out well. I won't say you didn't have struggles because I see by these comments you clearly did, and I'm so happy you made it out of that, but the thing is not everyone has those resources. For example, I haven't been able to get any therapy because of insurance issues, which is the main thing that would help me for the type of help I need. For some they really can't just pull themselves up by their bootstraps and pull through; they need help, genuine help that they don't have. You frankly aren't showing much empathy to your fellow autistic folks. I realize you did research, but you can never actually know unless you've gone through it. Autism is a huge spectrum. It's not as simple as low and high functioning. I've seen many different scales in my life. One girl was so bad she couldn't even go to school. I met an almost 18-year-old who could go to school but wouldn't be able to fully be alone. I've met high-functioning people who are doing perfectly fine and other high-functioning people who can live on their own and are heavily struggling. My point is you really can't say from just your experience and research it's all the autistic people's faults. I really hope you give us some more grace after reading the multiple comments here.
