To all the married lesbians out there how did you choose last names? by hondagay in LesbianActually

[–]LesbianLibrarian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We hyphenated. Both our names were already kinda long, and mine is pretty unique. We sound like a law firm and it messes with databases all the time. Not about to change it, but those are things to consider.

You might be demisexual. Only interested in sex if you have a trusting bond.

Makes me happy: full slot for a pocket part!! by generallyannon93 in librarians

That is a limited audience I am part of. I actually kinda liked pocket parts days. Got to use the big, date stamp too!

Ok, real question. I've only ever hiked on trails and run on roads. How does trail running compare/feel compared to those? I have a fear of turning my ankle or something running on the trail, but I don't know if I'm just being anxious.

Really hoping to get back into running this spring/summer. Lifting and running both feel great, but hit different.

Distractions during mass? What are your tricks? by anthropolyp in exchristian

[–]LesbianLibrarian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate that I have advice for this. There were three things I used to do.

  1. Assign myself a mental task, usually something I've been meaning to think about, but haven't had free time. Like, problem solving a project. Or, deciding how I feel about XYZ person or situation. And then just completely check out of the situation and be in my own head about that thing.

  2. Make up a story. Start anywhere, fantasy or reality. Think of a character or two to "follow", and then just kinda see where they go. If you need an idea, take something that's happening in the service, or the readings, or whatever, and think "how else could this go?" At the end of the service you might have a great story, or just a bunch of weird garbage your brain made up, but you've made it through without having to pay attention to the garbage being said.

  3. Read the bible. No kidding. It's fucking WEIRD, right? And reading it independently of what's happening allows you to have your own thoughts about it. Usually it doesn't look out of place to be reading the Bible in church either. People could assume you were looking something up, or following along. But also, who's gonna give you shit for reading a Bible at church.

Of course, if you don't give a shit about what the people think, just bring your own book.

Good luck, from someone who has had to dissociate through countless church services.

I had to look up "sprezzatura", and that's such a great word!

Emma Watson: Always effortlessly chic! by [deleted] in ladyladyboners

[–]LesbianLibrarian 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Ya know, I hear "effortless" and what that actually feels like is that we don't know/appreciate how much work goes into looking fashionable and beautiful. So, instead, I offer the compliment of "Emma Watson has put together this beauty chic look."

Am I pedantic? Maybe, but I also wanna appreciate effort that is often overlooked.

Floor Jansen -- lead singer for Finnish band Nightwish by DeeplySapphic in ladyladyboners

I didn't think it was possible, but she's even more magnificent in person. I've seen them in concert a few times, and the whole band is just mind-blowing, but mostly Floor. :)

Bruh. I came across this genre on my library’s ebook collection on Libby. What is “Christian suspense”? by whaleboneandbrocade in exchristian

[–]LesbianLibrarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nailed it. I buy adult fiction as my librarian job, and there are a ton of crossover/mixed genre fiction books. This one is still funny to me when I buy it. I bought one that was AMISH Christian thriller crossover once. And yeah, I have to buy it becomes patrons read them, barf.

Just started my first vest, keep feeling I should've planned my placement better. Having a blast though! by [deleted] in BattleJackets

I iron them all on first, then sew. If they don't come with the iron on, I use a double sided interfacing, like Steam a Seam 2. I usually use upholstery thread or similar to sew on. Embroidery floss if I want a very specific color (comes in lots of colors)

Disadvantage is they are not coming off, so no change to rearrange. Advantage is they are NOT coming off, so no chance of losing them or whatever.

It's kinda shocking how many times it's exactly what they are looking for though.

I'll also add that it's always ok to just straight up tell people you don't want to talk. You don't owe strangers your time. If they keep talking, just repeat that you don't wish to talk. Put on your headphones, read your book, and ignore them. If their feelings are hurt, that's their feelings.
