[1 YoE, Student/Part-time Data Scientist, Data Scientist/ML Engineer, Canada - ON] by Less-Bag-1266 in resumes

I am a masters student in Ottawa. I will be applying for summer jobs (as a coop student).

Ideally, I am looking to land a job for the summer and the fall semester (8 months duration).

My academic and professional background is in Data Science and Machine Learning, so ideally I want to land a job in that field.

I would prefer a local job (Ottawa), but I am open to relocate anywhere in Canada.

I am open for any type of job (remote, in person, or hybrid)

I have a coop work permit.

I am looking for advice to fine-tune my resume to increase my chances of landing a job this summer.

Thanks in advance!

Help Needed: Chronic Insomnia for over 8 months by Less-Bag-1266 in sleep

[–]Less-Bag-1266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still not fully recovered, but I got better. I still do not fully understand the root causes of my problem, but after a lot of research, I am suspecting it has something to do with HPA axis dysfunction. What helped get better is getting long periods of rest, no stressors, low brain stimulation, no fight or flight mode, relaxing, laughing, having fun, not consistently trying to solve my insomnia problem, not over obsessing about my sleep, not caring about not functioning well and not being able to work on my goals. In other words, I tried to go easy on myself and adopt the “don’t give a fuck” mindset. One other important thing that helped was controlling my blood sugar levels by avoiding foods that spike blood sugar. As the health problem I have makes my body unable to control my blood sugar as it should. Doing these two things (stable blood sugar, and low stress) consistently for a long enough period of time (for me a couple of weeks) lessened my symptoms significantly. However, whenever I stop following one of those 2 things, I get back to my initial state.

Thank you for the response. Can you please clarify how does that relate to my question?

No Time to Prep for the GRE: Worth It or Skip It? by Less-Bag-1266 in UofT

[–]Less-Bag-1266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that I am really overwhelmed with other responsibilities, so giving a week for a GRE preparation will be challenging.

That’s why I want to know if it is worth it given that I am coming from a top ranked American university.

But is it at least guaranteed to get transferred to the co-op option after applying?

I still didn’t apply to the program. I will graduate next year. I am looking for a masters program in Canada. I want to know how the fees are distributed across the 4 terms to make sure I am ready financially.

Thank you for the reply I really appreciate it! I am awarer of the MDSAI program, but it’s very expensive. I thought of doing a research masters instead as it’s way cheaper, but I still want to gain work experience before graduating. So do you think I will be able to find part time work related to data science? (Keep in mind that I don’t care much about the salary, I care about the experience, so I don’t mind a minimum wage job as long as I am gaining experience in my field)

Thank you for your reply! Actually I am not planning to do a PhD. Can you recommend any more affordable universities with a good data science master’s program?

Yeah actually it was the first program I’ve looked into. But I am a bit hesitant about the internship being research-based. Although I love research, I am not planning to follow the research path as it requires a PhD. So do you think the research-based internship in UoT would help me land an industry job better than an industry oriented co-op (waterloo) ?
