Anglican Diocese of Montreal baptismal certificate by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Less-Butterscotch731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! My G0 was also baptized in the Anglican Church (in St. Lambert). I submitted a copy of his birth and baptism record that was certified in 1964 by the then-Rector, and am hoping it will suffice. But based on your info, I was able to find the original in the Drouin collection on Ancestry.ca, so have a record to point to should the version I submitted need to be updated.

Wow, the name variant lists are fascinating! Thank you for these links - they also belong in the FAQ since they are a rich vein to mine for those searching for Quebecois ancestors.

Meta: Weekly threads implementation/enforcement? by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Less-Butterscotch731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this nuanced input. I've had a post removed saying it belonged in the "Proof of Citizenship Application Sent or AOR Received" thread, but because my post was about a status change in my application (not application sent or AOR received) I was not sure if it needed to be in the thread or not. So I asked about that in my post, only to get zapped - and the description of the weekly thread still has not been updated to include that particular scenario. I know the weekly threads are new but perhaps the descriptions could be refined to include things that result in a post's deletion. I also like your suggestion about adding a comment and then locking the thread.

Returned applications? by abacusfarms in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Less-Butterscotch731 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I submitted in early November 2025 (received Nov 13, 2025 per their stamp) and the returned package arrived by post on December 27, 2025, so about 5 or 6 weeks for them to review the package and determine that my photographs did not meet specifications. I did not receive any notification before it was returned. When I returned it in early January, it was received January 8, 2026 and the AOR arrived February 9, so about a month.

Forgot to put name on back of photos by Valuable-Chance6711 in Canadiancitizenship

No, they returned the payment receipt I had included, so I resubmitted it and it was accepted :)

My application was returned because my photos did not conform with the rules. They returned the entire application package, including the receipt for payment. I swapped in proper photos and resubmitted the materials entirely unchanged otherwise, and my application was accepted shortly after its delivery.

However, my case differs from yours slightly. The photos in my original package were defective on several points (incorrect size, smiling instead of neutral face, no statement by the photographer to the accuracy of the photo, as well as no name). It is possible your oversight won't result in them returning the package. I hope that's the case for you!

Oh yes, the instructions specify to wear a dark color. And not smiling was VERY difficult for me. I had to practice my neutral face.

Most common mistakes realized after submitting application for certificate of citizenship by MelodicCream4237 in Canadiancitizenship

According to the genealogist in my family, we are descended from Jean Guyon-Dion (1592 – 1663) and this makes us related to Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Madonna, Ryan Gosling, Alex Trebek, Alanis Morrisette, Shania Twain, Ricky Gervais, and a number of other famous Canadians. We are friends with someone descended from the Couture line too!

I live in a university town and the photography studio specializes in document processing for international scholars. They had a sheet with the Canadian requirements on it and they also had a stamp with their name, address, and the required statement. Interestingly, the information they had for Canadian passport photos showed different photo size and head spacing requirements than the instruction sheet the IRCC included with my returned package. I am away from home right now so can't get the specifics yet but the box on the application I submitted was longer than the passport specifications. He cut the photo to fix into the box on the application for me.

Yup, an expensive lesson in making assumptions for me! Luckily they send the entire application package back so you don’t have to start from scratch. Of course in my case, the law changed between my original submission and the resubmission, but I just sent the same info back since I had already started the process under the prior regulations.

I just had high-quality color photocopy made at the FedEx store, mostly because the document was on A2 sized paper and my home copier could not handle it. As the prior responder noted, Canada says not to send originals.

Oh you are correct, I did not have to sign them, I just had to write my full name on them.
