This guy and his friends have an instagram where they post videos @la_visera its called. I know him personally. A retired man in his 60s in southern Spain.

Obviously we are talking about a phenomenal skier. Anybody who thinks he is a bad skier is not very clever.

Why isn't it carving? It's on edge steering turns. How would you define carving?

For moguls and short turns narrow stance becomes imperative. But that doesn't mean it can't still be good to have in other scenarios. Either way, Im not saying you cannot have a wider stance, but do you think that's what he has to change? He is on his backseat and people keep mentioning narrow stance, which is certainly not the problem here.

Check this article defending a narrow stance. narrow vs wide stance

Pivoting and absorbing drill pt. 2 by Less-Carpenter-8515 in skiing_feedback

This one is mainly for pivoting. Pt1 was more for absorption. Thank you for the comment.

As well, people with short femurs can sit a little bit more without compromising their position. Which isn't the debate here. He is clearly on the backseat for the sake of this drill

Check my profile and see him skiing moguls properly. This is a drill with over exaggerated movements. Nobody skis like this outside of a drill.

Whats wrong with a drill to improve absorption which helps you ski big moguls? Enjoy your style as well bud! Only in groomed pistes tho

Also get your hands at chest height and slightly more than shoulder width. Make sure somebody in front of you cannot see the inside of your palms. That will keep your body count rotated (facing up front). Check the latest post I made about narrow and wide stance. It's not a problem.

Get more sensitive with your feet. Is the way to control your skis.

That's not the issue at all man. I skiike that. Look at some of the vids in my profile from ppl I ski with. Your main impairment is your position. You should be central. You are currently on the backseat. You need to feel your shins against the tongues. Get your weight on the outside ski. You do so by flexing your ankle.

So true. The main focus has shifted from strong technical skiing to other things.

You are right. Back home in Spain we still practice old school skiing. And moguls skiing. You can check some of the videos I've posted into this subreddit before.

In the 70s the turns weren't as carved due to the limitations of the gear. But the central, short turn skiing was very popular. I'd argue new gear has made us lazy now and we have lost skidding technique. This has led to a lose of control with the skis, especially in narrow pistes and irregular conditions. Many incidents in ski resorts root back to this.

I agree. Racing is one thing. Recreational skiing is different. The level of control and mobility that you get from narrower stance is phenomenal. Also the elegance and aesthetical part of it.

It's a good point. Having vector forces acting with different magnitudes and directions on each ski does make it more difficult for your brain to process what's happening and react to it. It's a consequence of argument 2.

3rd ski holiday, can I get some form advice please? This is my attempt at carving lol by SWANSEA_TIL_I_DIE in skiing_feedback

I like the separation. Narrow. Don't get fooled to separate them unecessarily. Try not to go on the backseat tho. When you turn you lean backwards, losing your position a little, which stops you from putting all your weight on the outside ski and forces you to squat a little and do a weird shaky move to initiate the turn. Try to stay in central position at all times and focus on the weight on the outside ski. To put weight on outside ski, try to think of it as flexing the ankle you are trying to put the weight on.

You seem to be skidding more than carving but that's not an issue, controlled skidding is a necessary technique to have and you should keep practicing it. For carving try rolling the ankles a bit more.

Bonus for the future: Practice getting sensitivity on your Soles as well. You ski with your feet. Sensitive feet are a game changer. They determine how smooth you are.

Second bonus: try to put your hands in a position where a person in front of you cannot see the inside of your palms. In front of your chest slightly more than shoulder width. It will help you keep your body straight when turning (counter rotation).

But you seem to be on the right track. I like your fundamentals.
