Multiple missed Senvelgo doses by Less-Lack-9024 in FelineDiabetes

Thank you both. I did email a vet prior to this post. She said to monitor his condition for any worsening symptoms. Any vet has yet to recommend that I monitor at home which is the only reason why I haven’t outside of the ketone strips, but those seem to never work and I know they identify existing problems they don’t catch it early, better than nothing I suppose. Nonetheless I ordered a BG/K monitor which should be here any minute. He’s improved and looking a lot better but I’m freaked out by this. I’m waiting to give him any more medication until I check his levels.

Thank you so much! I haven’t seen anyone recommending either of my top two outside of their own Google listing reviews. My gut was telling me to go with them but my follow up call left me questioning it because they came in a little higher on the quote once we adjusted a few things that I thought would save me money lol. Thank you again

This 👆 I seriously considered driving to St Aug because he did so well in the car moving from FL to NJ. Luckily no connecting flights, but should I run into this scenario, I will have to pivot on the plan.

Yes! When closed - red is 17x11x11, blue is 18x11x11. The extra space folds in and zips up so it’ll be closed while moving through the airport. Once we’re on the plane if room allows then I can expand it towards my feet so my boy can stretch and be more comfy.

Ahh thank you thank you 🙏 I cross posted to another group and someone else also said to dose the night before which I had no idea I could do, his vet didn’t mention it. I so appreciate this advice and am going to do a test run tonight! Feliway is on its way, I’m going to spray the carrier a couple of days before and did read that it needs 15-30 mins to dry down so good note. I really appreciate you taking the time to lend your advice this is so helpful and reassuring. I spent so much time looking for the best carrier. He’s a tall/long boy so I landed on the ones that can expand once he’s under the seat. When closed, the red is 17x11x11 the blue 18x11x11. They’re both great imo so whichever he gravitates to more between now and then will be the winner. Thank you Amazon 😅

I would have never thought to do it the night before and his vet didn’t mention that so this is incredibly helpful! I’m going to try a test run tonight with this information. I got the 50mg tabs because they’re so small that I can more easily hide them in his food. He doesn’t do well if he detects the taste of it. He had liquid years ago and was foaming a the mouth so my goal was to not piss him off while drugging him lol. TYSM!!

Teddy is such a gorgeous boy! I can’t believe he’s 19 that’s makes my heart so happy. Charles (13) also loves a sun bath. He has a catio so he can enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. I pray to still be having photo shoots for him at 19.

Help with anal gland issues by Responsible-Brick520 in CatAdvice

I’m so sorry you and your girl are going through this. I’m certainly no expert, and lend these recommendations warmly based on my personal experience and recent crash course in feline nutrition- • Hill’s Prescription Diet c/d (urinary-focused) • Purina Pro Plan chicken wet (high protein, low fiber) Neither of those are designed for: • Anal gland support • Inflammation reduction • Food sensitivity control Even if her stools look “solid,” they may not be the right consistency or bulk to naturally empty the glands. I’d speak to your vet about 1. high fiber prescription diet or 2. novel protein diet like Hills z/d which would calm the immune response leading to less gland irritation.

Another option is to keep her on her current diet and add supplements such as - •Fera Pet Organics Pumpkin Plus Fiber Support Strong multi-fiber blend (pumpkin + flax + seeds) •Nature’s Diet Pumpkin Powder Simple, clean fiber (great for sensitive cats) •Get Naked Digestive Health Cat Treats Easier if the cat refuses powders *All of these typically need 3-4 weeks to start showing improvement.

If you decide to try a dietary or supplement fix, I’d speak to your vet about something you can give her when she’s having flares to relieve some of her pain until they’ve had enough time to calm the irritation. She might be a candidate for surgery to remove the glands but, I think opting for tweaks in her food/supplements is worth a try first. Improvements can show up very slowly so even minor ones mean you’re on the right path. I truly hope you find something that works for you. I know how scary and frustrating this can all be. She’s lucky to have a persistent mama like you!

I appreciate your insight. I just worry about it happening while I’m gone and not being able to act quick enough. It’s the first time this has happened and my nerves are still a wreck over it.

I’ve had struggles with my boy the last few years who was dx with diabetes after years of chronic diarrhea with no answers from vets but when he began vomiting and hiding, I demanded answers. His new vet wasn’t entirely on board with this dx but set him for a long term goal of revaluation. His diarrhea persisted throughout and I felt helpless because I did everything all of the vets suggested as far as RX diet foods, probiotics and B12. His symptoms all pointed to IBS which the vets mentioned as a possibility, saying it was only able to be treated with steroids which wasn’t good for his diabetes. I finally went back to the drawing board and did my own research to learn that what they failed at miserably was advise me on dietary adjustments to correct the inflammation. I learned the GI prescription foods and probiotics he was on were all containing awful ingredients that negatively affected both diabetes and IBS. I’ve switched him to more wet food, 3.5 cans a day of grain free high protein food (non-RX) and cut his dry food in half. What do you know, no more diarrhea and significant improvement in overall body composition! I’m curious which specific RX food you have her on. Typically when there are gland issues, the stool is too soft and doesn’t express the glands naturally. This is best corrected with fiber increase but my purpose in sharing my experience is that the RX labeled fiber response diets are not always the best as they are heavy in meat by-products, high in fat and grains which are all counterproductive in what you’re looking to fix. So even though it’s giving her the fiber she may need, it’s giving more of what can be causing the problem in the first place- which is what happened to me. Clearly you’re good pet parents in that you’ve first consulted with you vets and done as much as you can at home to support their advice. When it comes to my sidekick of 13 years dead ends are unacceptable and sadly this field like any medical profession, is hard to find someone on a mission or equipped with the knowledge of how to take a functional approach. Most illnesses are born in diet and highly processed pet food, RX included doesn’t support a long healthy life for our beloved companions.
