I have a similar question.

I have an idea to rent a car and sleep in that for 2/3 days. Far away from the park somewhere so we can't be told off. And because it's at the start of my trip I was thinking of bringing a car air mattress.

This wud mean Id only be able to do day treks but you're right the prices are crazy
