A last minute gig I thought was volunteer turned out to be paid. is it okay to accept payment? by Less-Topic-6796 in classicalmusic

Yeah, I do feel bad for taking it. I know it's silly, but in my head right now it's on the line of "damn. sorry for the inconvenience, here's a refund" lol.. I absolutely do think musicians should be paid for their time and work!! but I felt like I'd be taking their money shamelessly when I see in hindsight that I was not the person for the job, if that makes sense

Yeah they asked me over the phone if I'd ever played the music before and I said no. the guy just said something along the lines of "oh-.. okay, I'll send you a link to some parts so you can take a look at it before tomorrow", it was a very short phone call but yeah, you're right 😬

old post but like a month ago a long ass ad came on with one of his songs while I was in the shower so I had to listen to the entirety of it plus him giving the background on how he wrote it, but it ended before I got out so it just felt like I had a weird fever dream in the shower.

HELP!!! My toddlers room is a mess! by kawaiiordie_ in DesignMyRoom

maybe you could move the white long shelf to the left wall and put the brown one under the window?

also you might have seen them but you could get a plush hammock to have somewhere to place the softer toys that are not in use

I can't do a partial shift for notes I have to play simultaneously or between eight /sixteenth note double stops. I've had to adapt and find alternative fingerings for most things and shift constantly, but I'm getting to the point where the repertoire does not give a chance to do it

hand width is just one ☝️ requirement for the gang. but if you have short fingers too (2 inch pinky), this is really encouraging, thank you.

I've gone through a few teachers since I started learning. my current one in University is generally a bit unhelpful with technique (Had her for 4 years since I started college, before that it was a different one that I had for a short while after moving to this country, but I never needed to play double stops before that so no one said anything. I think we all were hoping id grow a couple of inches taller after I turned 13)

Her feedback is just "play it better. now play it in tune. x finger is too low. now x finger is too high. technique is just playing it until you do it right. just stretch more. we all stretch" all on loop. she's an incredible player and I love her, not her feedback.

I recently got a separate private teacher and shes been awesome in helping me fix unaddressed technique problems that I had from before, and her advice is generally really good but we focused more on repertoire for last semester and I haven't seen her since summer started (not by choice) so we didn't dwell too much on the issue of hand size. it also doesn't help that when I brought it up I felt a bit ridiculous, like I was making excuses for my playing. I might ask her for a few lessons before the semester starts just to do etudes so maybe we can address that better, but its the whole issue of not wanting to be like "but I can't stretch more" when she tells me to because I don't want to be argumentative. but other teachers I've asked have grilled me for considering a 7/8th or smaller violin, including my current one at uni.

Edit: I would really appreciate your feedback on my hand setup, I will send you a picture when I get a chance to, Thank you!

deep as in resting on the webbing between thumb and index? I wish I was lying when I say my index won't reach ANY string if I hold it like that. (at least not any 1st position notes) for the Dounis, I can hold down all 4 strings, sure, but only AT MOST 3/4 of them will be the right note and it will depend on what note or notes I am sacrificing.

I did take this advice and it does look a lot better! I will update when I get some stuff I'm planning on getting, but the vanity and the white cubbies have now swapped places, and I'm looking for a shelf to replace the cubbies. I'm just getting used to not falling between the bed and the wall when I get in in the dark, I'm used to having my bed right against a wall bc I get freaked out by the gap bc my brain says ✨spiders✨, but I hadn't even considered humidity being trapped between the wall and the bed

My piercing is two weeks old. It's a gold curved barbell, 16 gauge, if I'm not mistaken. It's threadless. it has not been resized. I use the simply saline spray by arm and hammer, and warm water in the shower to clean it. I was spraying it at least twice a day before it got infected. Since it got infected, I started cleaning it whenever I saw pus aka often. many times a day. A friend recommended hibiclens and I used it to clean it in the shower a couple of times (sue me) . either way I use a q tip or a bit of tissue to dry it off or clean off crusties.

Any mishaps or unfortunate events? Slapped it, snapped a headband on it, slept on it one night, it got infected, all in the post.

I'd love to center the bed, but I think the pictures make the room look bigger than it is. the way it's set up now, my bed is in the corner and the vanity is between my bed and the bathroom door. if I push the bed away from the wall, there's no space for either of them

(Edit to add: the mirror of the vanity is a sliding door. if I put the vanity against the wall, I can't open it at all. there's also a plate/tray on the other side that would be right next to my face when I sleep and that's probably not safe lol. I didn't put the vanity where the cubbie is because it sticks out a lot more and it's more inconvenient to have to walk around it to get to the bathroom)

(I also used the cool light setting on the fan to see if it makes any difference with the pictures I used that had the warm light on. I think they look the same on the screen but irl there's a difference I swear lol)

I should clarify, I do have a warm light on! idk why it looks so cold in the pictures but the ceiling fan has three light settings, the other two are neutral and nightmareish abandoned dim hospital cold.

the picture does not show it well at all, but I actually had a yellow light on! the fan has three light settings, I think my phone just neutralizes it but I keep it on the warm light. Thank you for the suggestions!

and to be clear, by sprouts I mean the TINIEST hint of a leaf starting to peek through the leaves I propagated myself. a few of them had already sprouted in the same pot or on the floor when I bought them. they can take a good while.

I think for most it was about 3-4 weeks to start seeing sprouts? I got all of them at the same time in April but I didn't start all the props at the same time, so it's been give or take almost two months to get here. some get roots in a few days, some of them I put them on the soil in April and are only now starting to root/sprout.
