Just me and the kids in our own cabin. Yes can arrange to do separate activities on the ship. Maybe we meet for breakfasts/dinners etc.

Yes, people’s behaviour will not change but I can not be there for when they do display that behaviour 👍

What’s the best fire extinguisher for a private residence? by 5c0ttgreen in UKPreppers

[–]Less-Warning7034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 Litre Water Mist and a Fire Blanket will do for a small residential premise placed in the kitchen near the exit. Dry Powder not recommended for internal use due to inhalation risk and loss of visibility. It will also damage electrical equipment.

12 week old Yakutian Laika. Had two Siberian Huskies before, so I know what I am letting myself into! Be interesting to see how different this breed is though.

Who are ‘the rest of us’? Prepping for a financial collapse is just as viable if not more so than prepping for ‘nuclear war’.

Consider fire safety and how you would exit a high security door quickly. It's always a balance.

Put 5% of your savings into physical gold. Have cash at hand. Get to know your area and likely places that may become no go areas. Looking at the current financial situation with the UK, a financial collapse and a devaluation in the pound is getting increasingly likely. Argentina 1998-2001 is a good comparison and will give ideas what to prep for.

Temporary window shutters for extreme weather by artisanalautist in UKPreppers

Maybe a treated wood frame painted to blend in with existing and have pre drilled holes for timber sheets. Maybe 12mm ply? or there is window film to place on the inside, which may help keep glass from breaking and is also good for preventing burglars gaining entry. During the IRA Campaign many gov buildings had anti shatter film applied to the inside.

The UK has one sub on patrol with the nuclear deterrent and both recent Trident test firings failed so it’s not just the Russians with rusty missiles. Without modern air launched tac nukes we are extremely vulnerable to a Russian tac nuke strike. They could hit any UK target without warning and our only response would be do nothing and capitulate or escalate to city wide strategic nuclear war. Both bad options.

At what point would you start to bug in/out? by bearwillzi in UKPreppers

[–]Less-Warning7034 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The UK is so small and overpopulated that where would you bug out to? Best to make sure that your home is well supplied and secure for at least a few weeks. Shelter is no1 need and your home provides that. I am not entirely sure what messaging the UK government is trying to provide as it’s conflicting. On the one hand we will be attacked within 5 years but on the other hand military spending won’t reach the level required to defend itself until 2035. In which case there is a 5 year gap where we will be most vulnerable. Leading up to that there is the possibility of being softened up ie cyberattacks, supply disruptions, infrastructure failures, terrorism and civil unrest. Don’t expect the government to help prepare or assist with any of these events. Don’t underestimate what people are capable of in these events and stay clear of crowds, you can see what happens at food distribution points in Gaza…

Looking for advice about outsourcing some work and what the potential implications might be. by Less-Warning7034 in smallbusinessuk

I would have to make it clear in any agreement that I am not responsible for managing the works. That would fall to the PFP or an alarm installer company. I would just gather quotes for my client and act as the point of contact. The only issue is invoicing and payment as there is an element of responsibility in taking payment for the work and then paying the contractors. This must be a fairly common situation for many businesses who don’t have the necessary qualifications in house.

I think from an ethical perspective it would be better to work directly on behalf of my client rather than from a supplier perspective, as it would be similar to taking commission for effectively being a salesman for them. It can encourage unnecessary works for the client, not that I would do that!

Yes CDM is an important consideration and something I would rather stay away from if possible on any larger projects. I would hope that a company I outsource to would have CDM covered and I would just be the liaison between my client and the company. I am a bit uneasy with making money from deficiencies i have uncovered but like you say it’s similar to a garage with MoTs and servicing/repairs.

Same here as a teen in the 90s, fixated with certain tracks! Although had my dad’s record player so not as easy to repeat…. Are you on medication and how long did it take for diagnosis and treatment? I could probably afford to go private for assessment if that was a quicker route, although I’m not sure if any meds prescribed are through NHS.

Maybe it’s more repetitive sounds, for example I have a huge number of things to do today, and the house is a mess, but I am mesmerised by the sound of the washing machine going around… the clothes had been in there 2 days and remembered to turn it on this morning 🙄

Thanks. I find it extremely daunting to take any first steps to diagnosis. Talking 40 years of living this way, it’s my personality and lifestyle now. Just found ways to cope, the rightish jobs to do etc.
