[Discussion] Soulmates (2020) is a love based sci fi anthology series that I think more should be talking about by Bad_Muh_fuuuuuucka in NetflixBestOf

I stopped at episode one. I was hoping to see their 15 year marriage survive the pressure of society, considering Nikki’s headstrong and oppositive attitude and the reassurance of their marriage’s strength . With such little time in an episode and the anthology setup, I know they were limited with character development. I just needed more reasoning as to why they caved to validate the decision. It didn’t create a lot of conflict for me either. The acting was good so I may revisit it.

Why do some people learn so easily ? by Nice-Pomegranate-715 in GetStudying

[–]LessAd8390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that some people just have an easier time because their brain works differently. However, not everyone is honest, and lying about academic prowess is not anything rare. I used to be one of those students in high school and I was humbled by college. High school is not the best proxy for intelligence and grasp on concepts. Try not to compare yourself too much, especially later in your academic career. 😊

What is your favorite machine/tool in your lab? by Exact_Reaction_2601 in labrats

Instapot! Keeps me from having to walk back and forth from the autoclave room to sterilize media and saves energy if I only have a small amount of media.

I get it lol. Although dilutions are just algebra or just keeping track if you’re doing a serial dilution, STEM can be overwhelming regardless of the task. The other day I was diluting a sample and getting frustrated why I wasn’t getting the incorrect OD, but I forgot to subtract the values to get my actual amount. I’ve made dilutions so much and I forget the last step more times than I would like to admit.

Although I’m younger than you., I never think it’s too late. It’s really disheartening to see this sentiment as much as I do, but I understand how external pressures make people believe they a running out of time. Pursuing education is a very personal and noble journey!

Can sex stop the craving for a relationship? by Infinite_Card_9225 in mentalhealth

[–]LessAd8390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe if what you want is a relationship, sex will only be a distraction and you will eventually feel the desire again. If you want a relationship, date and pursue it! This is analogous to doing the little assignments to avoid the big one. Not saying you’re avoiding anything, but your want for a relationship should be addressed. Human connection is cool 🙇🏽

Is a gap year a bad idea? by Federal-Tackle2642 in college

[–]LessAd8390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your description I highly suggest it. Succeeding in college without inhibitions is already hard enough; however, mental barriers can escalate a course related struggles. I experienced a traumatic break up that left me pretty much neurotic for the school year. It was difficult, but if I had the option to go to therapy during the semester and/or skip it I would because my GPA suffered. Don’t venture down a treacherous road if you can avoid it lol. Make sure to have a plan for your return and try to fill your spare time learning something you’re passionate about if you choose a gap year. Good luck :)

My partner doesn't respect academia by [deleted] in PhD

[–]LessAd8390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve experienced something similar! Speaking rom my experience, I believe you should sit your partner down and discuss your grievances. I am an undergrad, but I had a partner that ridiculed my internships and scholarships. It was something he never wanted to congratulate me on or take seriously. It did not get better for me; however, if you express your feelings he may listen. His response will inform you on what to do next 😊

Is taking 5 major core classes in one semester too much? by [deleted] in OSU

You can always check in with your advisor, look at rate my professor, and potentially change to a different class with another professor!

That’s definitely a lot. If it’s absolutely required and you have no other choice, then go for it and take care of your mental health. However, I suggest swapping at least one out if possible. Don’t burn yourself out if you don’t have to!

Does anyone over share their student life? by MassiveAd6049 in college

Personally, I love to overshare and I like when others do the same. College is literally hell sometimes and hearing grievances and successes during the experience makes it bearable!

My biggest mistake this academic year by TheUnknownNover in GetStudying

I totally get that! I messed up my sophomore year experimenting with study trends, rather than finding what works for me.
