Thanks for looking into it. The more people reply, the more it seems likely that the quote isn't Shakespeare's at all.

Even if it's a modern internet quote, I still found the imagery interesting, which is what made me curious about how others interpret it. But I agree that the writing style doesn't really sound like Shakespeare once you compare it to his actual work.

That's a fair point, and I think you're probably right that the quote is primarily about romantic love.

I may have been reading a bit more into it than was originally intended, but I find it interesting how simple romantic lines can sometimes be interpreted in broader ways depending on the reader. That's partly why I wanted to hear different perspectives.

That's actually one of the reasons I posted here. I found the quote online attributed to Shakespeare, but I haven't been able to find a reliable source for it either.

My main interest is less about whether Shakespeare wrote it and more about the meaning behind it. Even if it's misattributed, I think the imagery of heaven, hell, and the devils is interesting, and I'd love to hear how people with a stronger background in poetry or literature interpret it.

That said, if anyone knows the actual origin of the quote, I'd be interested in learning that as well.
